  1. No it's just to keep the Les Collins thread on topic about the business. Rather than dilute it with discussions on other topics that's all. You can continue it here all you like.
  2. Very good for the price. Does it have the original steel wheels? If so that is rare itself.
  3. They only see 1 or 2 hit the market and assume what that means for prices. This is the problem with comparing cars on the market in general. It is rarely a case of comparing apples to apples. I have to say the Toyota 2000GT which only hit 550k and the C10 GT-R sale on Bring A Trailer for around 170k surprised me but a car can look very different in person and its history can also impact prices. If nobody is bidding higher at an auction others might think there is something wrong, that's the auction. Double edge Sword. Private offers are better for achieving maximum value weather it be real estate or cars. Most of those knuckle heads in North America still think they should be able to pick up a rough 240z for 1995 prices so I wouldn't read into it too much. That's why I usually stir the pot a little and write "cheap" in the comments of a classified ad or link. ?

Hey Guys, I can either have folks in Sydney come collect or next time I'm in Melbourne I can bring a few with me? Or I can post them out? If you want it posted can you PM me postage details?
  5. Just moved discussion around Bathurst to this thread, since it was really off topic for Les Collins Racing thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11902-les-collins-racing/

That's what she said, but it's ok they have drugs you can take to deal with that. Zing!
  7. Hey hey hey, I would have gone 71A if I had a spare. I don't mind the earlier style box with the Porsche synchro set up. However going this route I could use the 260z 'close ratio's' and have the 5th gear lock out with the shifter in the right location. So it was a compelling option. But part of me likes retaining the original parts. However be pragmatic where it makes sense I say. Looking forward to the hydro blasted covers! I haven't had a clean looking gearbox in the car ever. It's also had a slight rear seal leak (where the driveshaft goes into the box) which was driving me nuts. It will be nice to have a car that doesn't leak oil (at least from the gearbox), since it's been sitting the sump gasket and rear diff gasket's have deteriorated and need replacing now. Looking forward to rowing through the gears, I can't wait to see what it will be like with Triples on it also and eventually, eventually I'll get a 4.11 LSD diff in the thing. It should make it a fun car to drive then.
  8. If I had the disposable income I'd have bought it myself. Fixed the inconsistencies and got it to the level I'd like it. So I agree it was a good price. With the strength of the USD it's still a 200k AUD car. So not like it was "dirt" cheap.

Nice work, I suspect most E31s are trash by now. As are so many of the earlier heads. Just another reason it's hard to find an original early car with early parts still on it. I'm guessing it was corrosion on your head also? Is there other mods required to fit an internally oiled camshaft? I seem to recall needing to block off another passage?

  13. Early Solid Spoke Datsun Compe Wheel. http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m193483816 Starting Bid: 300,000 yen (AU$3,636.00) Cheap!
  14. Moved to the Global Thread instead. I actually think this car had quite a few minor issues with it, like incorrect parts etc..It also had questionable body work / repairs done to it as it was reported it may have had a rear-ender a at some stage in it's life. A nice Skyline GTR (S20) and a Toyota 2000GT both sold in North American markets didn't get the bidding frenzy of a year or 2 earlier for similar cars. It could be that North America isn't really the market for these cars or a softening market for these cars?
  15. Starting to see a bit more of these "East African Safari" special cars.

I spoke to David last night and he said he's going to have more produced. This round of buttons is still free. However he suggested for the next round I charge a small amount and use the revenue from that towards web hosting costs etc.. I will start a new thread when they arrive and we both agreed that $10 would be a reasonable price, I'll probably mail them out in batches of 10 or more to save me running to the post office too often. David is having them produced at his own cost and donating them for the cause. Which is really very generous of him. I also want to mention that he also donates toward running costs consistently which is really appreciated. You got in with the freebies in this instance but for those looking for more in future they can contribute $10 which will help cover costs etc..

Comparison with the Zcardepot gear knob (button) I bought and these produced by David. Left = David's button. Right = ZcarDepot. The ZcarDepot version is slightly thicker, but also the resin is not as clear. In terms of longevity I have no idea which will last longer..

and then there was 3... haha. Thanks mate, I think it would be fair to charge what they cost you though. Happy to doll them out for what they have cost you to produce. They do look much nicer than I expected.

Ok so I have 20. 1x Mossy 2x George 2x Dionysus 2x Triptych 5x gav240z (2 for myself, 3 for North American Fairlady Z owners). Total = 12. 8 left. First in best dressed I guess. @David - Do you think we could get more made? I think these will be popular even with the disclaimer that they may not hold up long..

No problem, I just want to reserve a couple for some Fairlady Z owners I know in North America also if that's ok with David? Otherwise happy to doll them out, will keep a couple for my self as backup's.

Moved this thread to "interior" section as I couldn't find it before. . I received a bag of these today from David for dispersal to the group. They look pretty good, although as David says they may not last long term.
  22. Somewhat true, based on the data I'm compiling though often close VIN # cars were painted the same colour. So it would be possible to know if it was originally assigned that colour if enough data becomes available about RS30's for example. Will that impact values? Impossible to say, but 20 years ago most would have said turfing the original L24 in favour of an L28 wouldn't have made much difference. Impossible to predict the future. In my opinion colour is subjective so playing it safe means sticking with the factory hues. However I personally don't like modern paint colours on classic cars. Prefer to stick with period correct colours. I would pick a factory colour you do like and go with that if doing a bare metal restoration.
