bumper bar reconditioning

Hi guys

 

I'm after a reliable place to get both my bars done for my 260z and a rough guess at how much

it will cost.

I've got into a bit of trouble from the cops for not having them on the after night and the engine's been burning oil, so a heap of smoke. So after sitting there for half an hour, they gave me a defect notice.

Think they'd have better things to do then hassle me over minor shit. Bloody cops. 

Engine with need to get rebuilt, it's pretty rooted..... but i get the bars out of the way first.

im guessing your down around melbourne, but up here in queensland theres a place in bundaberg (from memory) that does a good job. 3 or 4 years ago it was gonna cost about $600 to have the front and rears rechromed and straightened. thought i'd just give you an idea for the price

A bit surprised... i thought a maxed of $300. Still need to be done.

But i have a look into getting fiber glass ones like Sulio suggested.

      hey mr sushi im not taking the piss but i was just wondering where in bundy it was if you can remember ? as i lived there for nearly 30 years and know everybody into cars and we all just sent our gear to west brisbane and didnt dare use the local plater ! mind you it was a few years ago now !

now that i think of it maybe bundaberg was just the closest place to gladstone to get chroming done. maybe the straight and rechrome for $600 for the bumpers was actually from brisbane. my dad will probably remember, ill ask next time i talk to him

 

btw was the local guy alright for just normal rechroming of other parts or should we steer clear all together? cause i do remember we were gonna send something to bundy to get chromed :S

il have a ring around up there to find out what their like for you if you want. its been a few years since i was living there but still got a few contacts .

Looking at some of the US web sites, it seems you can buy a new bumper, without fittings, for less than US$200, so why have one repaired and re-chromed ?

US$200, my gues is the frieght to Aust would also be at least US$200.

As with most things 'classic resto' sometimes you just have to aquire skills yourself!  This link is to a fantastic Aussie site that specialises in DIY chroming kits, I've never done it, but it looks achieveable. http://www.eplate.com.au.  If anyone has a go let us all know how you went.

A lot of these sites offer free shipping for orders over US$50, so get them shipped to one of the guys in LA that imports cars (always in Just Cars or similar) and they do not charge all that much to throw them in with the cars. Takes 45 days or so.

ill vouch for vinneys in dandenong ive used them many times ,turn around time is a bit slow but the quality of the workmanship is a1 . all the chroming done is all triple layer, or c.n.c copper nickel and chrome , demand for these metals has skyrocketed driving the cost of chrome plating bumpers up around $100.00 a bar
