Hey guys,

Quick question, if a vehicle has been engineered, RWC, and rego in another state would it be required to be re engineered in Vic? Also, does a vehicle need to be close to stock to get historic club rego?

Cheers,

Rev

Hi Rev, it is my understanding that a car that has been engineered interstate needs to still be engineered before it is registered in Victoria.

As for your second question yes technically your car would have to be stock or close to stock to get a club permit however the application of this rule varies from club to club.

I bought a datsun 120y with CA18det from NSW about 3 years ago and got it registered no problem, i just presented the rego papers, sales receipt and engineers cert along with a vic RWC and all was good.

Club rego in QLD applies to any car older than 30 years or something.

As mentioned above, entry to individual clubs is different, but club rego itself shouldnt be too specific.

the rego inspection and/or engineering papers are ONLY valid within the state of issue and only within any timeframe of expiry that is applicable.

No if's, buts or 'my mate did this'

For CH registration, modded cars can be done.

A club can ask for an engineers certificate before allowing Club Reg. As to whether an interstate engineering certificate will suffice would be up to the individual club.

Your best bet would be to contact clubs direct and ask the questions.

What are you looking at Rev? V8 or RB? ???

The other thing to consider is if VS114 is in effect.

This is taken from sirpents thread-

Therefore the formular would be "Vehicle Dry weight 1099.961 Kg" + " 10 litres of fuel 7.2 Kg" + " 17 Lt's of other fluids 12.24 Kg's" = 1119.401 Kg's1119.401 x 5.0 = 5597.005cc or 5.5Lt

Im thinking this rules out LS Conversions in VIC. Any one know if this VS114 is in effect yet??

the zed weighs in at 1119.401KG. The formula for engine replacements in Naturally Aspirated form is Vehicle Weight x 5. That comes in at 5.5Lt meaning that an LS conversion is prohibited. As i said not sure if this is in effect yet or not.

well, here is my 'if' and 'but'

i bought a car from nsw that was modded with a late model f.i. turbo motor, to get the bugger registered in qld all i did was take the nsw engineer report into qld transport with the rego transfer papers and roadworthycert, and walla, easy as. this was also years after the conversion had been done.

may be different in vic though.

Exactly what i did... i remember before even buying and attempting to register my ca18 120y i called the nsw rta and vicroads and they said it was ok aslong as i present the engineers cert to RWC tester who double checks everything. Its been done by many whether its legal or not i dont know. Maybe rules have changed over the last few years?

Rev best to call vicroads

Seems like there are a lot of variables within vehicle registration departments!

Here in tasmania we recoginise modification plates from other states As such any car that is mod plated can be registered here But cars only have engineering papers need to go through mod plate process to be registered here

Having fought the magic weight to capacity formula here in tas under the australian system the big thing to remeber is the other page of the rules that says the highest weight for that cars chassis family can be used to calculate as such for a 240z s30 chassis u can use weight of s30 260z 2 seater

The weight quoted to me for a 240z by transport is 1065kg dry weight reported as the australian delivery weight as such it can only run a 4260 cc engine (the formula is 800kg to 1100kg cars times by 4)

So this means the the 260z 2 seater weight 1190 kg by 5 gives u 5950 cc capacity (formula 1100kg to 1400kg cars by 5)

Now all it depends on is proving to the transport that a 260z 2 seater exists and trust me transport tas didnt want to play that game

But i did get my shiny blue mod plate in the end Mick

I remember my engineer saying the same thing now.

We are so strict in the ACT with engineering, it just puts you off.... :(

The easiest state is Qld for modded /plated engineered vehicles and rego-ing cars from ther states. Ive read into this before.

Last year i bought a  fairly new family car with nsw rego and transferred it to ACT rego, it was pure torture. It required 2 inspections, one from a certified garage and then a 1/2hr inspection from the govt rta inspector as well.

Be very carefull and undertand the rules regarding purchasing interstate modded and / or engineer plated cars.
