Hey guys,

I bought my first Z about a month ago now and I thought it time to share it with you all!

Upon buying it, I took it to my mate's workshop and had it all looked over to see what needed doing and get a roadworthy for registration.

We found that it was in desperate need of bushes and adjustment of most of the wheel bearings.

After learning this, a few days of research concluded that my best bet was to order a set of prothane bushes from the US.

While waiting for these, I decided it was time for a tune on the carby's from the smell of things!

I took it to a guy in Stafford with alot of experience on the L26 and he determined that my distributor was in dire need of replacement.

Since then, I have ordered one just the other day from america so that hopefully i'll have it all tuned and running in the next few weeks. The dizzy should arrive sometime next week, all going to plan. Then I can send in again to be tuned.

Putting the tune aside, I received the bushes a little while ago and took them and the car back in to be replaced. I picked it up today for $700 with all bushes replaced minus a few unnecessary ones, bearings adjusted and a few other things.

I took her for a drive and it feels much much firmer. Definitely worth it!

I've uploaded a few pics of the old bushes too.

After I get the tune done, I think my next project will be to put an LSD in it. At the moment I'm looking at getting a Quafie through work brand new rather than a 2nd hand clutch type or other.

Then I'll think about changing out the suspension; shocks and springs and lowering it a bit more. At the moment it has lowered king springs on the front and possibly Tokico's on the rear. I haven't been able to get any numbers or words off them yet... they're red.

As well as this, down the track I want to do a brake upgrade to Wilwood calipers and rotors all around. They seem to be pretty well priced for such a good product. That should get me about ready for some track use too :)

And even further away, maybe i'll put an RB25det into it for some more fun :)

Hope you guys enjoy the photos and let me know what you think!

Thanks,

James

She looks to be in pretty good nik. When you say 'adjustment of most of the wheel bearings' what does this mean? I didn't think you could actually do anything to 'adjust' these. They either work or they don't.

EMPRACING, I have a sump that will bolt up to an rb25 and fit an s30 I could let you have for a good price if you are interested.

Yep, you can adjust them so that the wheel doesn't wobble around on it.

Got the new distributor last week!

So nice and shiny :) I put that in straight away and booked her in for the tune. Since Tuesday this week it has been in the hands of Jim in Stafford for the tune.  Things seem to be going quite well so far. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up on Tuesday sometime.

So far he found that the compression was running low in 5/6 of the cylinders and the jets were damaged somehow to the point that they weren't really responsive to adjustment.

New jets are on their way to finish the job!

As well as this, we've replaced the leads. They were showing their age and I'll change out the coil sometime soon. BIC290 according to performance ignition in Melbourne, recommended by Bosch.

I went into work today to see if I could pick it up but we didn't have it, just the Fuelmiser equivalent cc202 which unfortunately doesn't come with the mounting bracket. I'll either make one or hunt the Bosch one down soon.

I saw this car about 10 years ago when the previous owner had it - always been a super tidy Z!

Really?

The paint job is only 3ish years old.

How do you recognize it?

Got the car back on Thursday and went straight out for a drive to Dayboro, through Samford with some mates. It runs much better now. So pleased!

Thanks!

But actually that was straight after picking up the car from sitting in the workshop for over a week so it was a little grubby. I'll give it a polish some time soon :)

Hey Guys,

I will get a couple of photos of the rear up when I get home for you!

And I was on my P's until about a month ago. Now I'm on opens and waiting for the $$ for an RB25 :)

Wow that is a beautiful car.

Do you know what the colour is??

R

Thank you!

I don't know the colour sorry. Apparently it was PPG paint... whoever they are. The previous owner didn't know a whole lot about it unfortunately.

Vivek, ditch the 2+2 before you invest and grab a 2-seater!!!

Well the thing is with mine, as opposed to yours, is that it is already restored and I'm not having to do as much work as you have put into yours so far.

I can relate to your feeling but I like my car. As well as this, 2 seaters are much harder to come by and more pricey.
