I couldn't find a thread of his, and he asked for some photos so here they are.

Once he comes online I will let him tell you about his incredible paint.

It was a bit of a double-take when I saw the back of the car on Sunday.

The black section at the back appeared to be vinyl over sheet metal.  A bit reminiscent of the A550X that was the collaboration between Nissan and Yamaha in the 60's.

There's a few pics of cars in japan with this swap done, I like it, something different and probably 100% reversable should someone ever want to put in (the more natural looking) 240z lights!

so from the subject i assume it's a 100% rattle can paint job? doesn't look bad, but i could make a roll on job look better ;)

Looks great Martin.

So how many cans does it take to cover a zed?

I've seen pics of a car done with a roller and rustoleum, lots of wet rubbing between coats but it looked good.

Hey

Yup lights are Skyline (with original chrome rings) with '70s inspired vinyl back panel. Totally reversible but not going to be. Love round taillights and they suit the car well. With no badges, I'm always being asked, "What is it mister?" Even had a claimed ex-mechanic ask if it was a Capri. The cheek! 50 cans died in the spraying of this car, six/seven per coat. Finger has just recovered. Shine is straight outta the can, still have to flat and polish at sometime. Car not built to be a museum princess, but looks tough without being over the top. This way it stays on the road without become some monster buck resto that the owner's too scared to drive. Trying to post photos but even at the lowest-res the computer says no...

Mods are a personal thing, and though "we are all unique, just like everyone else" ??? I guess that you are really unique.  I don't dislike the round lights but I would be interested to see it without the rear spoiler because the first thing I thought when I saw the shot from the rear was Capri.

I would be happy to have a paint job like that!!!  Well done!  Want to do another?  Car looks well finished.

Unfortunetly I got a phone call and Martin had to leave at about the same time, so I didn't round the front of the car. Next time though I will be sure to take a few.

I like it and I can't believe you got that out of a spray can too! :) The 240K rear lights are 'period' items and I think suit the car well. Much better than some of the later junk I've seen tacked onto a Z.

I think it would look better with the extra set (2 on each side) though.

Do share some details on how you went about painting it.

I'm going to touch up some mirrors on my FD RX-7 (seems to be a common weak spot where the paint flakes) and I was going to use a rattle gun to do it, so very interested :).
