Scando Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Nice work Pete, about spot on what you said it would make! How does the torque compare to standard stroke RB26's you've built? Quote
peter mc Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 Hi Scando mate the 28 was like a truck engine , it was on boost at 2000rpm and has the flatest torque curve i have ever seen on a RB from 3000 - 7500 it had 400 fps at 3000 and and made peak torque at 6500 at 525 fps and held it all the way to the limiter at 8100 rpm ,we don't know what the hp was at 8000 as it hit the limit so hard we could not hold the spot on the dyno to get a reading the next 1 i do will have a crank trigger as there is lots of scatter of the cas at rpms over 7000 , as it makes it very hard to tune up in that spot Quote
handsandwhich Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 How did the ebay spec intercooler hold up? Seeing any major pressure drop? Is it keeping temps down? Quote
peter mc Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 well it worked well mate, was not really pushing to hard with 18psi ,inlet temps were in the 30 -40 c in the runs i did see close to 45c at one stage as we had it at full throttle for 5min from 2500 rpm to 8000. we will test it in the car with more air over it but i think it will be OK, 360kw at the wheels on the street will be over the top we may need to tern the boost down .. not Quote
handsandwhich Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 LoL! Luckily there is a mechanical analogue boost controller fitted (The accelerator pedal). Quote
Scando Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 from 3000 - 7500 it had 400 fps at 3000 and and made peak torque at 6500 at 525 fps and held it all the way to the limiter at 8100 rpm Fantastic result. That's a very wide powerband to use. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 8, 2012 Administrators Posted February 8, 2012 Wowzers, amazing build. Quote
peter mc Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 mmmmmmm sexy as mate how many caronas did it take mate Quote
handsandwhich Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 The coronas are for rust proofing. I drink the fish oil that you can see on the ground in the first pic. Its all the rage for a health kick at the moment. Quote
Scando Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 That is sexy as. Awesome colour. You seeing this Bond? The triangulated strut brace? Quote
Sirpent Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Tom Seem's like yesterday that Pete and I were there picking up cardboard boxes full of bit and pieces, but its been a year DAMN! Thats one heel of a good looking set up, congratulations Buddy, well done Hows Bottomley feeling about all the mods by the way ? Cheers John Quote
handsandwhich Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Hey John, Yes, can't believe it's been a year since that day already. I never ended up going with Bottomley. I dropped in to visit him to talk about the build but he didn't seem interested at all and palmed me off to someone else. Might have just been a busy time for him or he just didn't like the look of me (I don't blame him). Anyway, here is a short walkaround vid of the car. Quote
Sirpent Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 That is one sweet exicuted ride there Tom ! Now share and tell us about the radiator you installed LOL Quote
handsandwhich Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 The aluminium radiator was from ebay for an r32 gtst/gtr with twin thermos and shroud. All I had to do was grind a little off the welds on the end tanks and it slipped right in between the frame rails on the zed. Have to be careful doing this as the first time I grinded a little too much weld off and a pinhole came out (chinese welds ftw!) but it was easy enough to weld it shut again. It is a perfect fit and it has the inlet/outlet right where I needed them. Obviously the mounting tabs need to be moved to suit the zeds radiator mounting position too. As per all cheaper chinese items, you have to be prepared to do some mods and swear a bit if things don't line up where they should. The shroud tabs did not line up with the radiator mount so had to weld new ones in and there was nothing holding the shroud to the bottom of the radiator so it sort just flapped in the breeze so had to weld a bracket there to make it right. Who did he palm you off too and how have they been? David Quote
handsandwhich Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Maybe he just had a very large workload at the time, maybe he didn't like what I was planning on doing, I don't know but I'm fine with that. I did not go with who he recommended. I ended up going to see Kevin Williams in Plenty. We sat down and had a long discussion about what I was planning on doing and he told me what I should look out for and things to avoid. He seems pretty down to earth and doesn't want to bust your balls as long as you go in there with a clear plan and list of what you want to do. Mind you, I have gone a 'little' over my original plan so we shall see how I go. Quote
