Stivva Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Hi guys, does anyone have any adjustable or shorter than factory caster rods laying around they do not want? Quote
NZeder Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Shorter? You want LESS castor?! what he said. "More castor makes you faster" the S30 TC rods are mounted from the rear going forward so to add castor you want them longer. So unless you want less ??? Why ?? I dont get it - longer is what most want. Unless you want them to install in a non S30 ie s130 (aka 280zx), 510/1600 which have front mounted TC rods. Quote
Stivva Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 My wheels and tyres are about 1mm off the front of the guards, they are not central in the wheel arch. Quote
zzzzed Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 If you are fitting wheels big enough that you need to fit flares, then you will more than likely have to cut out the front portion of the front guard and some of the front spoiler Quote
Stivva Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 195/65/r15 are my tyre size. I am currently in a legal shitfight with the RTA for unmarked roadworks and the cost of repairing my front end. The wheels are not centred in the wheel arch and I know reducing the amount of caster the front wheels have will re centre these. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 18, 2011 Moderators Posted September 18, 2011 That profile tyre is too big for a zed.. for a 195 15, should be a 60 profile. Close to the factory size. Quote
Stivva Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 Thanks for that. I was Going to go a 55 profile but my last wheels had 205/55/R16 and the current tyres have a very similar rolling diameter. Next time round I will try a lower tyre profile. But, back to the wanted ad! Quote
C.A.R. Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Your handling will turn to shit though - but I guess your only after the 'look' huh... You can cut some more thread onto your existing tie-rods, then just tighten the nut up further = less castor. Quote
Stivva Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 Your handling will turn to shiver though - but I guess your only after the 'look' huh... You can cut some more thread onto your existing tie-rods, then just tighten the nut up further = less castor. Is wanting a 'look' over a track ready suspension set up a problem? My car is comfortable on the road and that's all that matters to me. Either way I am sure my negative caster is already offset by a wider track and lower centre of gravity. I would rather not cut a new thread on the standard rods, I have heard of them becoming weak and breaking this way hence chasing the newer parts. Quote
peter t Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Still gona steer like crap with neg castor. Get the dumbells out. Quote

Do not try and re-thread the caster rods..............you will need to soften the spring steel and then reharden.............this will make them dangerously fragile Try a set of Tech Toy Tuning castor rods..........rose jointed and fully adjustable (not sure about the RWCness of them though) http://technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=668 Quote
Riceburner Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I'm looking at getting a set from ZCCJDM in the next few weeks. Anyone else run these? Good enough for Jon siddins and look very well made. Might be able to combine shipping..... Quote
benny Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Hey Gareth, To get a discount from ZCCJDM search for "hybridz" on his website and it shows a list with discounted prices. Benny Quote
dat2kman Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 In worst case scenario, if you are in a car accident, and if forensic investigation is warranted, and you are running a wheel alignment setting that may be able to be deemed a contributor to the accident, due to inability for your car to operate, you will be in a bit of bother. Castor is built into the cars geometry for a reason, more castor is acceptable, less is considered dangerous, due to the cars inability to self centre the steering from a turned towards lock position. Likewise the old bone of contention regarding larger dimension rims, and non standard components, no matter how well engineered or certified they are. Safest suggestion would be to stick to the standard alignment specs, and rethink your true rim combination Quote
Riceburner Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Yeah, thanks Ben What offset are your new wheels stiv? I have a similar problem but with over 3degrees neg camber and 225/50/16 it kinda expected. I rolled the guard lips and shaved inner edges of valance and spoilers, that seemed to fix it. Quote
