PeterAllen Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Got the finished tank today. I might be bias but I think it's worthy of a place in the Guggenheim. I don't know when I'll fit it as I still like just looking at it. Quote
RB30X Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Very very nice Peter. I wish I could TIG aluminium. Quote
NZeder Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Nice work Peter - so this goes in the stock location under the zed? Just not a large/long = makes room for an exhaust system without sharp restrictive bend to clear the stock tank Quote
chris240 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 2 remarkable things here.... 1st - great workmanship 2nd - she let you bring the tank into the living room Quote
PeterAllen Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 2 remarkable things here.... 1st - great workmanship I haven't used this fabricator before but he came highly recommended - the price was very very reasonable 2nd - she let you bring the tank into the living room She had no choice really, the study was full. NZeder - I've removed the spare tyre well. The photos are from last week before the straps were made. Quote
NZeder Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 That explains it Peter - I see the holden diff in there - looks good Quote
620Z Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Pride of place in the living room. Got to love that. Ha Looks really nice. How many litres does it hold? Are you going to run an exhaust either side now? Quote
RB30X Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Yes he already has a very tidy twin system made up for it based on the dimensions of the tank pre-fabrication. 47 litre capacity from memory. Quote
620Z Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Ahh sounds nice. Nothing beats two pipes on either side on a Zed. Quote
PeterAllen Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 Good memory Tim - I actually had to measure it again today to confirm 47 litres. The LS1 in a 1700kg Ute gets around 13.5 lts/100km on a road test and that would give me around 350km/ tank. I'm hopeful that the same LS1 in an 1100kg S30 could give around 10-11 lts/100km and that equates to around 450 km/tank. It will not be a daily drivers so I think it will work out okay. Blessed are the Pacemakers... No offence intended, Rev et. al. Quote
620Z Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Hmmm I think your car will still be around the 1200-1300kg mark. As for fuel economy it depends on how much your motor is worked and how hard you drive it of course. I have a 95litre tank and still lucky if I get 450klms on a tank. Only 250klms on a tank at the race track. Ha So add a bit of a buffer in on your estimates for now. Remember that twin exhaust system won't be light. Then other upgrades if not already done like brakes, diffs, drive shafts, gear box's etc. Will add over 150kg to your car. Quote
PeterAllen Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 Craig - Good points and the wire wheels weigh a tonne as well. The LS1 install (alloy block, etc) is claimed to add only 15kg over the standard S30 (1044kg). I have an all fibreglass front and the fibreglass doors with sliding perspex windows are an enormous weight saving. It will be interesting to see the final weight - if ever I get the thing finished! Quote
620Z Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Sounds awesome Peter. Yeah my gearbox weighs a ton. Tremec 5 Speed. But at least it won't break Quote
RB30X Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I'd think your L/100 guesses would be quite close Peter but I don't know what all that fiberglass will weigh. I get 11-12 with my normal spirited driving but I only weigh 1200. Quote
peter t Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Coming along nice mate. Don't worry about the stuff in the house as I still have bits hanging about the house. They seem to get use to it after a couple of years. Quote
