chev z Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I've been meaning to update my Z family position. The last time I wrote on the "race pace cornering " { under suspension ] topic , I was considering the pro's and cons of transplanting a lexus 4lt v8 into the 260 2+2 or put it into the newly aquired 240. Well circumstances ended up dictating what would end up happening. After many questions to the seller of the 240 before buying I was happy that his description was fairly accurate. That being said he stated that the motor had been turned over on a regular basis, after getting the z home I discovered that 4 pistons had 1 to 2 cm of water sloshing around ontop of them, which explained why the motor wouldn't budge at all . We agreed ,reluctantly that a fair compensation would be $3000 , it is now nearly TWO years and still am yet to recieve the final $700. I have never met a guy that has so much bad luck when it comes to family and finance, you can make up your own mind . I have , and it seems that his circumstances improve only when I visit him at work or his house in QLD south of BRISBANE I LIVE IN NORTH VICTORIA Sorry about the bitch This infuriated me to the point that I cracked a wobbly and decided on a 5.7 lt LS1 with a 6 speed box and went ahead with the 240z V8 conversion. Now before the' true to type 'get on their high horses, the car had previously been tampered [raped ] with.It had had a v8 installed and was in the progress of having a refurbishment done. That included having a S13 suspension /diff transplant. Now my question to all is,should I start a New thread or continue the original one, because the very very wide body guards have arrived from the USA today in Benalla , the car has been dropped of to LOWENs Smash Repairs and I am genuinely EXCITED for the first time since starting this drama filled developement....HAYOOOOO (It's OK guys - Steve is old & decrepit. We have to make allowances for him - Lurch). Quote
chev z Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 Lurch , getting old is a bonus , getting old and excited is just a BLOODY wonderful feat...thanks bud, it took me 5 mins to find my topic and another to lookup the meaning of decrepit Quote
RB30X Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I'm confused?? Do we talk on this thread or are you updating your original one. Anyway I'm excited to see another LS1 Zed project underway. PICS PLEASE Quote
chev z Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 Now that I am motivated I will try to get everyone up to speed on the LS1 project. I purchased a LS1 + 6 speed for $3500 and employed a mates brother, who also races a torana and tunes racing bikes, to fit the motor and gearbox then tune it on his dyno. He did a brilliant job , except for one minor mishap . The car jumped of the dyno and put a small dint in the bonnet and spoiler. His engineering work is first class , I would be posting pictures but his computer is less than second class ,jammed and then lost the build photos.Hopefully I will Con ...NO...demand that my daughter [OK beg ] will show me how to download photos from our' box brownie camera '[Lurch ] for your perusal. Well I've typed enough for one night , so I will elaborate further when time and photos are available OK before I sign off, the engine with a better cam produces 335.8 hp or 250.4kw at the rear wheels . Which is about twice as much hp as the stock V6 chev in my old 260 2+2 Quote
zed240au Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 great to see another ls1 zed up and running took mine to show on weekend then took long road home so much fun to open it up and enjoy that v8 power mick Quote
sexual_sushi Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Hate to hear about you getting ripped off but $2300 seems pretty generous considering most would never see any extra money after the deal was done. I would be glad that I didn't get totally screwed on it. I think we all know when buying a car that a blokes description isn't worth jack. If we believed everything we heard/read, 80% of our driving population would be old Granny's that drive cars on highways on sunny weekends. How they get the cars to the highways without doing any city kilometers is always a mystery Not saying you're at fault, and I do hate disingenuous people, but it could have been $2300 worse. Good luck with the build. Quote
luvemfast Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Can't wait to see it Steve. 250kW at the wheels will be interesting with your "drive it like you stole it" attitude Quote
chev z Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 I was just catching up on some banking and you wouldn't believe it but the final outstanding payment of $700 had just been placed into my account. I am so pleased that I can put that distressing crap behind me I think he might also be very happy this financial matter is gone. I wonder if taking my 6' 7" financial fixer ,as I introduced him as,with me last time had anything to do with it...lol Quote
620Z Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Well done ChevZ you were lucky to see the 3K come your way. Persistance pays off. I am looking forward to seeing another V8 Zed on the road. Keep us posted. Quote
MaygZ Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 It is amazing how valuable a 6'7" financial assistant can be Quote
mossy Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Ahh love the LS1, makes me think about not putting the old school chev back into mine and putting in an LS1 Quote
MaygZ Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Ahh love the LS1, makes me think about not putting the old school chev back into mine and putting in an LS1 Better tell Pete quick Quote
mossy Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Better tell Pete quick Thats ok Simon that L28 is going in the 240z I'm building at the moment, I'm thinking an LS1 for the other 240z, if I do that Pete's services will be required Sorry for the thread hijack Chev z is this car only a track car or could it be registered? Quote
chev z Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 It was registered with a 350 chev before I bought it,but I'm sure the RTA wouldn't pass the extra wide stance . Between outside tyre walls on rear measure 196cm, also running spacers allround would make it illegal It would be fantastic fun though, until I started it and was put off the road for extreme noise and extreme smiling Quote
Brabham Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 A little narrow at the rear don't you think? What do you run the spacers for? Filling out the fenders? Nice looking zed Quote
chev z Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 I wrote more about the preparation of the 240 before going to the Z nats in Goulburn in the Aust wide events section under 2011 z nationals lurch was going to shift that stuff onto my build site WEREN"T you Lochie the bedfarter , thats according to Jane Couldn't help myself...lol Quote
tir33d Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Wow you have alot of space between the block and the firewall, I ended up with a moroso sump in mine with it clearing the rack by on 2mm, still further back then yours. I reckon if you put a good seat and harness in there you would be 1 second quicker. And seriously, I think you should put a good rollcage in there, its not gonna be resistered so do it properly - intrusion bars and all. then or course build the bottom end and aim for 14-1 compression on E85. 500hp at the wheels would crank it a bit. Makes me wish I didn't get my wife pregnant, buy a house and have to paint it on the Easter weekend just been. Would have luved to give you a drive of mine... Caring is sharing. Can't get over how fat it looks. Good job Quote
