red76z Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I like the new look Mick. Does the new intake make any difference? And did you make it yourself. I won't be able to make it to powercruise this year as my brother is getting married :-\. have fun. Regards Scott. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 22, 2014 Moderators Posted January 22, 2014 Looks brilliant...well suited. Quote
zed240au Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Yes Scott made intake myself Not sure if it has made a change sure sounds like it sucking more air and first drive last night felt bit crisper Would think it should flow better than bug catcher Sorry to hear you wont make it on weekend looks like weathers gonna be good and there letting us in Friday night so more cruise time Saturday enjoy the wedding mick Quote
620Z Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Looks great Mick. You have done a massive amount of work on developing that car. Keep it on the black stuff and enjoy. I notice you didn't go for the G-Nose. Keeping it close to traditional. Great car. Quote
zed240au Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The gnose is still in corner one day ill put it on for a change Mick Quote
zed240au Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Wanting to do a the Mt Poatina hillclimb I was told I need a cams approved cage So I bit the bullet and pulled my car apart major job as much of the carpet was glued down pulled old cage out Bought a new Bond roll bars half cage and set it all up got local workshop to weld it in Then while car was apart thought id lower seats 50mm fit some dynamat to stop noise and heat and put new harness in Got it all back together last week in time for Barrington hillclimb Drove up on street tyres with sticky tyres in back and on passenger seat so no trying things out Was smiling loving new lower driving position plus added leg room from getting full seat travel now roll cage brace is in back and not in main hoop Was perfect day sunny and dry Last 2 runs at barrington have been Cn the wet What a shock when I did first run no traction ok 2nd will be good once tyres get some temp no better didn't get any better during day my best was only .25 of second quicker than best on a wet run earlier in the year Car was just bouncing around and not getting any grip Im thinking new bracing from roll cage must have stiffened back end up and that with 440 lb springs im running in rear and 380 in front is was just too stiff Off to Symons plains tomorrow for a driver training course so ive fitted 250 springs all round see if that works better has left car sitting lower as well so one bonus already Getting cage and log inspection tomorrow as well so hopefully it gets tick of approval to make the effort worthwhile Hope it all comes together Quote
Gordo Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Yes Mick , they say that a good cage will change the way the car handles. Hope you get it sorted. I would have just softened the rear to start with. But you can try stuff on the weekend. Good luck. Quote
260DET Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Could be shocks, I thought that with a cage heavier springs were the go. Quote
bluerat Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Bondy had the same problem's when he re-did his cage pal, might be worth a call. I think he went lighter with the sway bars? If I was you I wouldn't change a thing.... Quote
zed240au Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Thanks Hodgo ill take that advice im sure your telling me for the best reasons Lol But I already changed the springs and car felt much better at Symons today putting power down much better with the softer springs even on my old ku36 semis Hopefully a50 will grip even better at Highclere Might still buy some 280 and 336 springs and try them Roll cage and and log book ticked off by inspector just need to send application off now So next weeks jobs change heads to better flowing ls6 ones pull my new 1"7/8 extractors off and send them off for ceramic coating Mick Quote
620Z Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Geez Mick you are doing some big work. I have 3600Ib springs in mine all round. My cage made a big difference but also the ride hight. From memory you might have been running a bit highter then me. Might also help with handling. Mind you my car is more for road than track. I am sure you already have beefed up sway bars. Will be awesome to see your car again at the Feb'15 Tassie Trip. Quote
Gordo Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 3600 lb springs, lol. We know what you mean. Defiantly a road car, can't remember when you had it on a Victorian track Craig. Haha Quote
260DET Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 As the stiffness of a chassis is increased so should the stiffness of the springs used eg the standard S30 chassis is very flexy so using heavy springs only causes the chassis to flex more and become one giant, soft spring which can't be tuned. So choosing spring rates depends very much on how stiff the chassis is. And then there are the dampers.......... Better shut up, lap times are what counts so..........but I love the theory and application of suspension theory so forgive my mini rant, please Quote
Scando Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Bondy had the same problem's when he re-did his cage pal, might be worth a call. I think he went lighter with the sway bars? If I was you I wouldn't change a thing.... Yeah, mine caused mass oversteer on exit when we put the cage in. Went from a 23mm rear bar back to a 16mm rear bar and it fixed it. I'm only running 200lb springs but I generally like a softer setup. Quote
zed240au Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I think im running 19mm rear and 22mm front bars Struts are bilstein all round getting old but done very little work Chassis is fully seam welded Not sure on the theory but car seems much more progressive and controllable with the softer springs in Looking forward to seeing u guys down here again Craig Mick Quote
bluerat Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 Hey pal, was Symmon's a 'Butcher' day? Did you get much out of it? LOL are you selling raffle tickets for the Nav's seat at Poatina!! Quote
zed240au Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Yes it was butchers day mainly went to take daughter up and get her some coaching Did get some new ways of thinking about cornering for myself Was handy to try new spring set as well only disappointing thing was they had 2 chicanes in back straight to try and keep us under !50 km lol and had us going through the bus stop as well like the bikes that was bit of fun Do u reckon id get people wanting the navigators seat Thought I just who was silly enough to jump in there All lyle used to tell me in rally days was hold it don't back off don't think I ever heard him call a corner Thanks for the pics Mick Quote
bluerat Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 Well mainlanders...Micks got his Mojo back!! 4th out of 33 cars at a damp Highcleare hillclimb today, the big fella was on fire!!! It's always had good traction off the line, but with the new lighter spring's it's dynamite! Except when he was on the bridge... Quote
