Wow, the engine looks fantastic.

There is probably a post somewhere on this but, how do you get such a high shine on the rocker cover and aluminium parts?  Have you put a clear coat or similar on the head?

Yea the engine is looking a lot cleaner than when it first come out.

For polishing i use a variance of sandpaper depending on the condition of the surface so a good surface i'll start with 280 grit and end with 600 grit with a polish or two in between. A bench grinder with a buff fitted helps with the polishing bit and you need it to have a horse power or two to cope.

I don't use a clear coat because i think that part of the fun of lifting the bonnet and having people ohh and ahh is getting under it on the weekend and giving everything a good polish before one goes for a cruize.  ;D

I even managed to save the extractors and we have the Eletronic ignition that i bought off Ebay for $100 (assuming he still wants it) to go on. Check the first page for a reference photo of the dings and holes in the extractors.

Ain't no bit of Tassie gonna keep this Zed down!!!

Sounds like you are on the home stretch now Dale. And Scoot your engine is looking great. You should have booked to bring it down to Tassie. You would of had a ball.

I would have really liked to go to Tassie but the funds for that went on the motor. A piece of tassie was still lodged inbetween the Rack and pinion bracket and the bush. Also the sills had a small amount of rust so we are cutting it out now while the car is stripped down.

Seriously guys, you've got the welder and some steel, you couldn't be bothered spending an hour or so to knock up a proper rotisserie  ;D ;D?  And I think your angle gauge needs calibrating, that's GOT to be more than 45 degrees!

Yep, was pretty bad but Dalee said cut it all out now and then we can say it's done. I'll get some new pics tonite....if this was my car i would have been  :opackin darkies :o but i don't have the level of emotional involvment as the owner so its chop, grind, weld. Donor metal is mostly from the parts car so it's Genuine Datsun ;D
