MaygZ Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Wow, the engine looks fantastic. There is probably a post somewhere on this but, how do you get such a high shine on the rocker cover and aluminium parts? Have you put a clear coat or similar on the head? Quote
Scoota G Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 Wow, the engine looks fantastic. There is probably a post somewhere on this but, how do you get such a high shine on the rocker cover and aluminium parts? Have you put a clear coat or similar on the head? Yea the engine is looking a lot cleaner than when it first come out. For polishing i use a variance of sandpaper depending on the condition of the surface so a good surface i'll start with 280 grit and end with 600 grit with a polish or two in between. A bench grinder with a buff fitted helps with the polishing bit and you need it to have a horse power or two to cope. I don't use a clear coat because i think that part of the fun of lifting the bonnet and having people ohh and ahh is getting under it on the weekend and giving everything a good polish before one goes for a cruize. Scoota G Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 I even managed to save the extractors and we have the Eletronic ignition that i bought off Ebay for $100 (assuming he still wants it) to go on. Check the first page for a reference photo of the dings and holes in the extractors. Ain't no bit of Tassie gonna keep this Zed down!!! Quote
Scoota G Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 Heres the car back at Dales.. was picked up NYE. Quote

RB30X Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 OMG man, I hope you have an up to date will. Quote
620Z Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Sounds like you are on the home stretch now Dale. And Scoot your engine is looking great. You should have booked to bring it down to Tassie. You would of had a ball. Quote
Scoota G Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 I would have really liked to go to Tassie but the funds for that went on the motor. A piece of tassie was still lodged inbetween the Rack and pinion bracket and the bush. Also the sills had a small amount of rust so we are cutting it out now while the car is stripped down. Quote
Scoota G Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 Two more pics of the dog leg rebuild. Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Farkin JEBUS! Hahaha...! Nice 45Deg Zed. Panelwork is OK I guess too... Quote
Zeddophile Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Seriously guys, you've got the welder and some steel, you couldn't be bothered spending an hour or so to knock up a proper rotisserie ;D? And I think your angle gauge needs calibrating, that's GOT to be more than 45 degrees! Quote
Scoota G Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 I think Dale would enjoy a update while he's at work , soooo More pics Quote
Scoota G Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 Fun and Games, had some rails fabricated and got busy extending the standard one's to the rear today! Quote
Scoota G Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 The chassis rails have been finished now so all i have to do is rework the drivers side dog leg and its on to body prep. Quote

C.A.R. Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Jeeze Mark, you took that back a fair way... Quote
Scoota G Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Yep, was pretty bad but Dalee said cut it all out now and then we can say it's done. I'll get some new pics tonite....if this was my car i would have been packin darkies but i don't have the level of emotional involvment as the owner so its chop, grind, weld. Donor metal is mostly from the parts car so it's Genuine Datsun Quote
Scoota G Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 And so, the work continues on the dog leg Quote
