Efi turbo L26

Thought I’d better start a proper thread about my engine build instead of carrying on in the general section.

plan is to pull out the 4.4L and Supra box to fuel inject and turbocharge my L26.
im slowly gathering the bits to do so.
so far I have a l26, an e88 carby head and the efi intake.

this weekend I redrilled the head to mount the efi manifold, and notched the ports for the injectors. Seemed a bit daunting but in reality it was pretty easy.

I’ll be putting a micro squirt in to control the spark and the injectors, with ls2 coils and I have a turbo off a forester gt laying around.

question, will the forester turbo be adequate? I plan on running around 10 psi.

Also can I get some injector advice.
will standard 280zx injectors be ample? Or will I be better off getting some higher flowing ones in anticipation of future upgrades should the need arise?

If someone could chime in that would be great.

They turbo will probably be to small, but get it running with it then upgrade later.

The injectors won't flow enough - IIRC they are less then 200cc
Hunt around for some R32 GTR injectors - they are 440cc and will give you some headroom and will fit the manifold.

Thanks mate. I’ll get on the hunt.

would I be right in assuming rb20/25/26 injectors are all the same physical size?

I think they are all based on the Bosch D Jetronic style injector.

By the way I have 6 500cc ex Gibson GTR injectors up for grabs, make me an offer.

Also have an Autronic SM2 ecu, offers accepted.

Forester turbo will be way too small, a GT3076 is a pretty good size for them or a Holset Hx35. with the injectors stock are only 180cc and no good, i would look at something like Redrbzed has offered. do you have an idea of the power figure your after?

I’ll keep an eye out for a turbo as suggested. It’s just I had a forry turbo laying about doing nothing.
As for power, I’d be happy with 250hp, about what my current v8 makes.

redrbzed, I’ve pm u about the injectors

So I’ve pulled my head off to send to the engine guy to get valves replaced, but it seems that 42mm valves are a bit hard to come by. Stewart Wilkins sells 44mm jobs.

question for those knowing…

. Will the 44mm valves work on my head? Or does anyone know where on earth(preferably australia) where I can get 42mm valves.

Are you running an L26? I believe 44mm valves in an L26 bore may require notching in the block to accommodate the larger valves. Since L24/L26 bores are the same, it's just that the L26 got the longer stroke crank (same as L28).

I have an efi N42 head (44mm intake valves) on my L26 with stock A grind cam and did not need to notch the block

As others have said I wouldn't waste my time with the forester turbo. I would prefer something with a "standard" dump flange instead of the Subaru style, and pick something that will flow enough for your power goals at the lowest boost possible. I made 250 rwhp with a S14 T28 on my old CA18 (using 4 x 440cc GTR injectors), but that was at 17psi. Seeing as you have 2.6L of exhaust to play with I think a GT3076 (or a T3/T04E) would be the go, but even a stock rb25 turbo would do the trick for that power level

I called Mr Wilkins and he managed to dig up a set of genuine Nissan 42mm valves for me. What a guy.
they are on the way now. My trigger wheel also turned up from triggerwheels.com. It’s a ring gear style one that fits perfectly on my third pulley wheel. Head will go into the shop next week for a tidy up and new valves put in.
LS coils arrived and my fuel rail is being made as we speak. Hopefully will be here next week.
I can get a set of ls1 injectors from a guy in a town near me which are 380ish cc.

I only asked about the Subaru turbo as I had one sitting here. It’s very hard to source a turbo locally where I live so the problem is finding one someone is willing to post. Can’t find rb25 turbo here. Only an rb20.

yea Gav I’m running a l26. I took the head off the other day and it does look like the block is notched slightly, but anyways I’m just going to use the 42mm valves anyways

Got the fuel rail I bought from EfiHardware fitted up today along with the Ls1 injectors I bought a couple of weeks ago. Had to bore the injector holes to make em fit but it worked well.
clears the thermostat housing too which I was a bit worried about.

If you can get an Rb20 turbo get it, they have steel turbine vs the RB25 turbo which is ceramic and do have tendencies to blow to bits. You could always just buy a T3 turbo off ebay, they are reliable enough now you generally wont have any issues with them.

Ended up getting a r34 neo turbo.
only gonna run 10psi for now. I did notice you can buy rebuilds for them with new insides so I’ll prob look at that in the future if I want to wind it up a bit

The Stagea boys love running the OP6 high flow turbos. Make about 300kw. Plenty in a Z.

You can delete the crankcase vent pipe in the block - just fit a freeze plug in there instead.

Is it the same diameter as the other coolant freeze plugs in the block?

L24/26/28, 240Z/260Z/280ZX are all 225mm
L28 Patrol is 240mm.

Run a 240mm clutch and flywheel, the 225 cant handle the torque. you can get 240mm flywheels from MQ/MK patrols with a L28 or you can get an adapter ring and run a RB one.

You can get decent clutch's for the 225mm flywheel, but you just have to spend more than $300 on one...
