craig Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 hi people I am a new member and thought I would introduce myself I`m Craig, based in melbourne and have a 1973 240z, that I have been slowly (very slowly ) restoring. It has taken a back seat to the house renovations for about the last four years, but finding your site , has really got me reved up again. I am a drivers side floor pan away from a rwc, so I think I might just have to make it happen. Dont know if I will be able to add much to your forums, how much some of you guys know blows me away, but again Great Site Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 31, 2009 Administrators Posted March 31, 2009 Hi Craig, let me be the first to welcome you on board. I've had my Zed for about 4 years too and its taken a back seat due to traveling and working OS so I know the feeling. It's hard watching everyone progress with their cars whilst mine sits in a garage back in Australia. It seems since starting this website many Zed owners have come out of the wood work so to speak. Glad you stumbled across us and hope you stick around. Before anyone else asks though, post some pics so we can all see your car. Even if its a work in progress we don't mind. Quote
C.A.R. Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Welcome Craig I'm glad to read your motovation is coming back. BTW get some pics up! Quote
craig Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 thanks for the welcome I have attached photos of my car , I had a full bear metal spray on every thing above the floor pan , Before you ask , how could I come this far without doing the floor pan, I had it in a mates panel shop , the floor was next on the list, the business went under, they were coming to take the booth in two days, it was then or never so we painted it, and Ive since put it back together, so nothing gets lost. I put new glass in front and back, new seals to keep it weather tight, new dash and seat skins. Everthing engine and running gear wise is stock. Ive had it in for rwc and there wasn't much, seals, seat belts ,dash lights are dogey and of course the floor pan and rail. going to start getting back into it over easter, I'm feeling more positive about it after seeing the amount of work some of the members do without losing it, misery loves company. I will try and stay focused on the dream ( dying a poor man, with a really nice 240z) PS These photos were taken with my phone , I will try to put some decent ones on soon Quote
craig Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 sorry people posted the same photo twice, couple more here Quote
Mr240z Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Hey Craig nice Zed mate, Have to ask did you run over a shopping trolley or what.. That's one big ass nudge bar..I'd lose it to make it look so much better. Have to look at my fairlady strips..Would break up your blue nicely. Quote
Toecutter Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Hi Craig, Welcome, sounds like your car will be ready for our cruise to the Grampians in a couple of months!? Sulio Quote
RBZ 260 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 nice car, nice and bright blue like it a lot. Like mr240z said loose the nudge bar talk to Ben from otomoto for some wheels and u have one cool blue Z Quote
craig Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 Thanks people, I still love the colour , its du pont rivera blue, Du Pont had an e type jag that colour at a trade show I went to and people were lining up to look at it, I decided it would work well on my z .It was $500 a litre and we used 5 litres , but that finish is straight from the gun, it hasnt been cut and polished yet. I know the nudge bar is a laugh, it comes off 10 minutes before I go to the rta, till then its really good to grab when your rolling out from under the car, particularly if your a couple of cans in. immediate plan is fix nothing thats not for the road worthy. then suspension and brakes, once its on the road. the bumpers arent great and wheels let it down, so they would be next.Engine last. I want to have a driveable work in progress. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 yeah i use dupont too. good paints. but that $500 pl who's ripping you off. is it pearl or irredescant or chrome ? if aint that somebody is making good money on you. group 4 metalics are around 80-150 p,l 3 layer pearls can be from 150-300 pl. the chamelon crap is 700+ and chromes are 900+ but du pont dont have the later two. single colours ie no metalics or pearls range from 40 to 75 pl. that is trade price mind you. nevertheless the colour is very nice. 620Z Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Welcome Craig. Nice looking car. Sounds like you are on the home stretch. We have a meeting coming up in about a months time in Melbourne. You might want to come along and say hello. We normally get 15-20 people. Try and get your car on the road and the enthusiasm will lift 100%. Especially when you come on a couple of drive days. Quote
craig Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Johnny I wouldnt be at all suprised if I got hosed with the paint price, the guy wouldnt have been the loan ranger, I was very enthusiastic back then, most of the times I didnt even ask for quotes, just told everyone to do it right, but they were very different days THEN : Partner 0 , kids 0 , home loan 0, rent 60 bucks a week shared house NOW : Parnter 1 , Kids 2 , home loan 1 Access to a few imformed second opinions would have saved me plenty of heart ache, Im sure. I think reading some of the post on the site, before I do anything might save me from plenty more in the future. ( ps I also had to buy 300 bucks worth of some hardener for the paint, if thats too much I dont want to know, its time to move on) Enough from me for now, I will keep you all posted Ta Quote
RBZ 260 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 ;D yeah im not saying anything anymore lets just say, move on, better for your health. u not far from getting it on the road. once on the road everything else will hopefully take its on pace and u wont even notice the $$$ disapearing. forums like this give u good indication what can be saved and what traps to avoid. so just keep doing what u started now, asking and chating with us nutters here. looking forward to seeing this beast evolve in months to come. i so want to start working on my 240z ASAP. 3 cars away :'( Quote
