dropped the 260 into the mechanic for a looking over, wasn't running too hot, and he tells me that the SU's ( original ones) are not looking too flash anymore, and replacements would be worth thinking about.

Question is, what should I go with?  I figure, since i'm going to have to replace, may as well get a decent set of something.

I plan to use the car for the rare skid pan day,  and even rarer track day.  more of a zippy weekender driver.  fun is rated higher than fuel economy as I have a work truck that i drive around, and will really only be driving to have a bit of fun  ;D

So, what do you recommend? SU's? webbers?  pros and cons?

all suggestions appreciated  :)

Hey Razz all the answers you are looking for are on the forums.

Let your finger do the walking....

I personally run 45 DCOE weber's and love them (need a fuel tanker following me thou)

Nothing compares to the noise weber's produce.

Anyway stay tuned for the experts (most are at a BBQ night)

Depends on how much $$ you're willing to spend. Did you end up going to Bruce in Queanbeyan? Sounds like you were in the exact same position as I was when I saw him!

In the end for around the $1000 mark I got brand new SU's fitted and tuned. If I was looking at tripples, he gave a guestimate of around $2,500 - $3000.

So if you got the money and patience to keep tripples tuned, go for it! Though my L28 with SU's is quick enough for me.

Mate you don't have triple's and thats all BS .You get weber's tuned by someone that knows weber's and they stay tuned. None of this BullS that people say weber's need to tuned every week.Weber's tuned properly are just as good as Fuel Injection, or better.

I take mine to the weber bloke every 12 months for a check up..

And for a $1000 you could of had a set of second hand weber's tuned on you 240z.

Have to disagree slightly with that comment. I've heard many say "I can get triples working better than EFI" That is real BS right there! They haven't found anything better than EFI for the moment.....Carbies cannot be compared to EFI; not even close!

But you are very right on Webers not going out of adjustment; 90% of the problems are just shithouse linkages that people rig up. Lesson is don't stinge on the linkages!!!

I started with flattops, went to 240 SU's and then went onto triple dellortos. Each upgrade was much better then the last. SU's in the right condition are very easy to look after. Triple carby's as Dimitri pointed you must not skimp on the linkages. You can pickup triples for $1000 but you never know how good they are going to run or the condition of the linkages. If you want something that your never going to have to adjust and your not going to upgrade the motor then i would say go with a good set of SU's. If you want some little more excitement and you have a bit of Patience then have a look at some triples. Speaking from experience i would buy the carby's separate and then get a brandnew manifold and new soft mounts and linkages. Purpose of doing it that way is your eliminating any issues you may have down hte track.

You can pick up a decent set of SU's for 300-400 if you keep an eye out aswell.

I'm a big fan of SU's as I've seen how good they can work on a well sorted L28. I bought triple Mikuni's myself but haven't put them on yet. They cost me $1000 AU landed from the US, but the linkages don't look that flash to me.

I know by the time I get it tuned to my motor with the right jets / venturi's / linkages and maybe even a new manifold (US manifold has a bend in it to allow for MC clearance), not to mention dyno time it will be an easy $2000 AU invested.

I'm tempted to ditch the set up and possibly consider EFI. It might cost a bit more but I think it would be great. Of course old school carbs do have a certain exotic sound about them.

Gav, with the triple throttle bodies, you still get that great sound but it just costs a little more! To set up that sort of EFI system, costs around the $5k mark. Big bonus is the almost "set and forget" factor. Once its dynoed, all that is required is just simple tuning up work every so often. No need to worry about jjetting, needles and seats etc...

Do the l24 240z su's need any modification to be run on an l26 Like needle size?

I have a set on my shelf i want to throw on my 260z which i previously had on an l28.

They where ruining rich down low and lean up high on my l28 which was causing it to fowl plugs in city driving. I was hoping they would be a better match for my l26
