d3c0y Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I was like you i wanted to get them where they looked right. If you check out my Rocky Auto thread i took a few reference photos and I have a pic of a genuine 432R in the Toyota museum in Nagoya too. Quote
260z blues Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I had original Toyota fender mirrors on my celica and although it took a little to get used too, I think you get a better/larger field of view with the fender mirrors. Quote
KatoKid Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Resurrecting this just in regards to legality in Victoria. I've got original fender mirrors (thanks Gav) but cant find anything definitive in regards to legality, can anyone point me in the right direction? Quote
KatoKid Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 (edited) Just found this: https://infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/pdf/14.pdf but the rear vision mirrors only became applicable on 1 Jan 1972. I went looking for First Edition ADR's and found this: The First Edition ADRs were distributed for discussion purposes. However, they were not adopted as a legally binding set of standards under either national or state/territory law. The Second Edition ADRs first came into effect on 1 January 1969. These ADRs were selectively applied under state/territory law. They were subsequently made part of the national standards by Determination No 2 of 1989 published by the Commonwealth Government Gazette (Special Gazette series) No S 291 dated 1 September 1989 https://infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/second_edition_adrs.aspx My car is a 71 so unless there is something that overrides this like a specific RWC requirement I think I'm OK but still worry that someone will interpret differently! CBR Jeff Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 (edited) Dave you are walking into a crocodile infested river that is more about opinions and urban mith than it is fact. Similar to two opsonising fans watching a game of footy and reviewing the umpires calls. My advice is get all the information together in a folder and have the answers from your point of view marked out ready to go. I think you are correct early 70's cars are before the ADR date. Thay were sold with or without various items and should be able to be re registered like that but some times logic does not count. Most of us are in the same boat so good luck. For what it's worth I'm going with door mirrors. Jeff Edited June 26, 2017 by CBR Jeff Quote
KatoKid Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Digging this up again as I realized that I would need to attach my compliance plate for VASS and registration so I dug my plates out and when I looked closer realized that the plate actually lists the ADR's the car was to built to comply with......and it does not list ADR 14 which is specific to the second edition ADR's for mirrors! Very pleased to find this, as in my book it clearly means that my car does not need to have mirrors as defined by the ADR. Quote
PeterAllen Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I fitted a couple of Raydyot bullet mirrors to the GTO to give it the period look. I found I could see bugger-all via the passenger door mirror so I fitted one of these and hey presto, I can now change lanes like a 'P' plater. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Convex-Mirror-95mm-3-/261818493373?hash=item3cf59929bd:g:EOEAAOSwoBtW2RSx Quote
KatoKid Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Thanks Peter. A few others have commented that convex is the way to go. Quote
