reverendzed Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Hi Guys, well after lots of thought and input from a couple of you guys, I have gone down the path of triples! Just thought I'd post a pic of the new setup....should be going on the new motor within the next few weeks. Rev Quote
C.A.R. Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 THANK THE LORD! I was having nightmares about you fitting those Downdraft's... I think you might scare yourself now Dave when they go on the new engine PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure the car goes on a Chassis Dyno after it's all together, too. BTW, where did you score the Mikuni’s from? Quote
reverendzed Posted July 1, 2008 Author Posted July 1, 2008 I'll get you guys rejoicing over greater things than these yet! See Lurch I did listen! I scored these ones out of the U.S with the exchange rate the way it is, now is the time to shop. Yeah I will put it through a dyno....My son showed me a couple on youtube the other day which freaked me out a little, one car blew up and the other nearly slipped off! Quote
Hunter Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 How much did they cost in AU if you don't mind me asking? Quote
260Coupe Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Did you find them new? Can you let me know the source as i am also after a set of Mikunis regards Alan Quote
620Z Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Rev you have done a lot of upgrades on your car lately. A man on a mission! Well a couple of missions. Your car is coming along nicely. Your not getting light fingers when that bowl goes around on Sunday are you Rev. Just kidding. Let's hope it is all done ready for Apollo Bay. Quote
Scando Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Yeah I will put it through a dyno....My son showed me a couple on youtube the other day which freaked me out a little, one car blew up and the other nearly slipped off! When I had my car dynoed it wasn't strapped down, just had wedges either side of the front wheels........It almost climbed over the wedges. Nice purchase, should give you a bit more kick in the back Quote
reverendzed Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 good one craig! I never let my 'gingers' anywhere near the bowl! :-\ Most of my upgrades have come through some frugal buying and selling of stuff that I buy through auctions, honestly on my pay alone with 5 kids my zed wouldn't have even got into the driveway! I work about 60 hours every week putting into the community and I reckon the Lord just loves to bless me with bits for my Zed! Rev. Quote
reverendzed Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 the new carbs set me back AU $1000 landed at my front door, which I reckon is reasonable buying compared to what I've seen in Aus! They haven't landed here yet but when they do and I'm happy with the quality I'll let others know the source. This guy reckons that he has quite a few of these setups come through his shop. Rev. Quote
620Z Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Very resourceful Rev. I think we all agree that the old Zed can be spruced up nicely on a tight budget. New wheels as well. If not for the stripes I wouldn't recognise it at the nest drive. Quote
Toecutter Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Wow, very good deal for 44's Well done! Sulio Quote
zed510 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Anyone I am new to this forumming??? but a quick question. I have been keeping one eye on the aus/u.s. dollar and one on the price of webers out of the states and the triple weber kit complete except filters has just jumped up 200 bux. But my question is what are mikunis like campared to triple 45 webers for my 260 2 seater??? Quote
Brabham Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Hi, Just noticed on the pic that one of the carbs has Solex written on it. What is the go here? Quote
reverendzed Posted July 5, 2008 Author Posted July 5, 2008 Hey Brabham, Good spot! here's some history of Solex/Mikuni: Solex carburetors have been made under licence by a number of companies including the Mikuni company of Japan who supplied them to auto makers including Toyota, Mitsubishi and Suzuki as well as to various Japanese motorcycle makers. Mikuni originally entered into a licensed manufacturing agreement with Solex in 1960 and further developed many of Solex's original designs. In this model of 44's the Solex/Mikuni are absolutely identicle. Quote
Brabham Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Yes very interesting I have a Suzuki with a Mikuni on it and a VW with a Solex on it that has a mind of its own :)Hopefully Mikuni have improved things a bit on some models as the Jap car has proven a lot more reliable than the Euro! Damn it as I prefer Euro cars the Japanese are getting too good at this car business! Am thinking about running triple Mikuni's (Solex's!) when I get my car finished. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 5, 2008 Administrators Posted July 5, 2008 Good price Rev, my Miki's cost me $1500 AU once landed and import tax etc.. Exchange rate was higher at the time though. Quote
