260DET Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 It's a new cheapie but has all the adjustments and is quite light and good to use but pfft, pfft, pfft, same as the old gun I threw away. Thought it might be the paint viscosity but it still does it with thinners. The instructions list possible causes which are gun related, is there anything in particular that should be checked thoroughly? It's a suction gun, have tried a gravity fed gun but don't like them. 1600dave Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Usually paint too thick, dried paint in / around the air cap or blockage in the paint passages. Or the vent in the pot is blocked with dried paint., if air can't get into the pot to replace what is sprayed out you'll end up with a vacuum in the pot which counteracts the suction of the gun. What pressure are you using ? 260DET and GregTas 2 Quote
lampy Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Best to set your gun up using straight thinners in the pot and test fire at a hung up piece of cardboard. You an then do you adjustments to get good flow and an even coverage on the fan. Spluttering your mentioning sounds like a blockage. It is always good practice to strain you paint/thinners mixture before adding to the spray gun pot. 260DET 1 Quote
24 Dat Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 How long since you drained the water out of your air compressor air tank? and is it delivering good constant pressure? 260DET 1 Quote
260DET Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 Using about 50 psi, the pick up tube was a bit loose so that's been sealed now. Quote
HomeBuiltByJeff Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 It sounds to me like it is sucking in air, so you need to make sure everything is tight and sealing properly. Quote
