I just thought I'd leave a review of Phil's Rotary and the bumper rubbers they were offering to suit an S30Z.

There is none listed on their eBay store right now, but I bought rear bumper rubbers and the overrider strips etc.. It seems they fit fine, although the overrider ones (for the rear's) were a little long so are a bit loose fitting, I'm guessing maybe with some sunlight they will shrink a little?

 

However for their price they are almost the same as OEM parts (OEM has part no. stamped in them on the inside).

I bought a set of the front rubbers and my experience was a little different.

 

The end bolts on the rubbers were too far in and so required a lot of stretching and some effort to get them in the original holes. On one of them the bolt pulled out of the rubber. I ended up returning them for a refund.

 

With the OEM strips the biolts are pegged into the rubber by a square metal plate about 10mm square and so they won't pull out. These replacements didn't have anything on the end of the bolt to tie it into the rubber. The end on the one that didn't fail also kicked up a bit due to the pull and stretch on the bolt. On the one that failed the bolt t wasn't over tightened after it made contact with the bumper, the bolt.pulled out before the rubber was flat onto the bumper.

 

On the plus side the rubber profiles and quality seems quite good and so if you found the same issue that I did you could redrill or slot the end holes in the bumper to reduce the pressure. If this was done I'm sure they would work just fine.

I found even OEM rubbers needed a little persuasion to fit, but didn't have your issue. In fact I had too much slack on the rear overriders. There is also the possibility of some bumpers being replaced through the years with aftermarket ones. So that may also be a factor?

My bumper was original OEM. The bumper had the original rubbers on it but they were stuffed which is why they were getting replaced. Now it was a 260Z bumper, but I assume the holes are spaced the same on the 240 and 260.

 

The bolt spacing on the OEM rubbers was good and lined up nicely with the holes in the bumper.

He was trying to sell the business with all the stock.

Funny method of sale though, he seemed to think that all prospective purchasers of his business, had to pay full retail price, for all stock.

I've fitted the PR rubbers to my Zed's bumpers and over-riders and had no fitment problems, bolts and holes have lined up just fine.

 

I don't think the 'new old car company' moniker is new, it and 'Phil's Rotaries' are both names used on invoices or receipts I've received over the years I've bought parts off them.

I've always had good service from them. I've been in their warehouse, it's not a small operation.

I'm on their email list and get regular updates as to what new parts they have acquired for some old Japper or old Holden or whatever.
