lando Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Saw this on a Z facebook group. seller claims it is a new crate engine so it has no engine number. P30/E88 combo. could you buy a new engine from nissan and stamp a engine number on it? if it is real how much would it be worth? Quote
Simestime Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Theres a "brand new" 1600 engine on ebay too for just under 2k buy it now. Quote
andyk_79 Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Is it just me or is the metal lower on the part where the number would be....... aka new engine my bum theremm 1 Quote
AndBir Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Is it just me or is the metal lower on the part where the number would be....... aka new engine my bum I thought the same thing re the metal height. The L28 I have has the metal for both the "L28" and the "######" being the same height. Maybe the L24 was different? Quote
Cozza Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Yeah it does look a bit funny but not sure it looks smooth enough to of been machined / ground. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 2, 2017 Administrators Posted November 2, 2017 Alan Thomas clarified that spare blocks from Nissan came without a stamp for engine number. So it's definitely NOS. Quote
HS30-H Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Alan Thomas clarified that spare blocks from Nissan came without a stamp for engine number. So it's definitely NOS. For reference, a 1971 P30 L24 block supplied as a factory replacement part: Quote
HS30-H Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 One way to put all this in perspective: Factory replacement engine blocks were components. Engine numbers were only stamped on complete engines that were going into a car. The guy on Facebook is speculating that he has a "crate motor". It may well have been a complete - or semi-complete 'long block' - replacement supplied by Nissan, but I don't think Nissan supplied complete L24 engines in the American "crate motor" sense. In fact, it may simply have been 're-manufactured' in the USA using an outright factory replacement block and Nissan refurbished head etc. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 4, 2017 Administrators Posted November 4, 2017 That picture Alan posted above got me thinking about this old thread. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/11743-1970-engine/ Quote
