Saw this on a Z facebook group.

seller claims it is a new crate engine so it has no engine number. P30/E88 combo.

could you buy a new engine from nissan and stamp a engine number on it?

if it is real how much would it be worth?

I thought the same thing re the metal height.

The L28 I have has the metal for both  the "L28" and the "######" being the same height.

Maybe the L24 was different?

Alan Thomas clarified that spare blocks from Nissan came without a stamp for engine number. So it's definitely NOS.

For reference, a 1971 P30 L24 block supplied as a factory replacement part:

One way to put all this in perspective: Factory replacement engine blocks were components. Engine numbers were only stamped on complete engines that were going into a car.

The guy on Facebook is speculating that he has a "crate motor". It may well have been a complete - or semi-complete 'long block' - replacement supplied by Nissan, but I don't think Nissan supplied complete L24 engines in the American "crate motor" sense. In fact, it may simply have been 're-manufactured' in the USA using an outright factory replacement block and Nissan refurbished head etc.
