dom Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I'm restoring an early Fairlady Z which still has its original 71A trans. I'm interested in any spare parts and even whole transmissions. My trans is missing the shift lever, I've seen a few on Yahoo Japan but they are quite rough usually. I'd love to track down a clean one. If you have any 71A parts/trans or know where I should look, I'd greatly appreciate any info. Thanks! Quote

Thanks for the posts guys, I haven't yet dismantled the box yet but from what I've learned of the car's history, the reverse gear is broken. My assumption is the trans is rough, but I'll have to open it soon to confirm. I'd be interested in just about any spares for the trans, since there aren't any resources (that I know of) for them out here. Mine doesn't have a shift lever, so that would be great to find one or two of. Gears and even housings interest me too even though shipping will be steep. dat2kman - Do you have the gear housing (middle section) that's in good shape? Smaller stuff like the gears themselves, the shift lever, fork are at the top of my list. Quote

You'll find that the shift lever is interchangeable between the 'A' type transmissions, so the 'straight' stick from an early north American market car will fit your 5-speed. Alan T. Quote

Original FS5C71-A lever for S30-series Z is dead straight. From the 1970 factory parts list: Part number is 32841-25500, which is exactly the same as that on FS4W71-A transmissions used on early north American market HLS30U 'Datsun 240Z'. Quote

Dom, yes, have casings, levers, and complete unbroken reverse gear main, counter and idler gearsets, along with other items, including a main output shaft for a 240Z. Postage ex Aus isnt a problem, I have just freighted four Atara Racing 15x9" "watanabe" rims to Washington, took 5 days! Quote
