mossy Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I've bought a cusco front strut brace for my 240 but it won't fit it seems as if the towers aren't far enough apart, can someone measure their gap between the towers for me please. Quote
zedevan Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 it fit on mine (later 2 seater 260z) with no problems. the back one while it says 240/260 ofcourse just means the early 260's, however its not that hard to modify the brakets to work, and will sell mine if someone wants both of them as they aren't going to get any use for ages... Toecutter Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Hey Evan, Is your car going to be on the market soon? Sulio Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 19, 2008 Administrators Posted March 19, 2008 Sulio Sulio, always trying to sell other people's cars. You should be a car dealer mate. hehe Quote
Toecutter Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 hehe, just checking to see what else Evan is selling of his car, always good to have spares. hmmm...actually Gav theres some nice straight panels I could stick under my house for spares on your beast. Better off selling them cheap to me than letting them corrode away in the garage! :D Quote
C.A.R. Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Don't get carried away Sulio - you need a proper workshop first! Quote
Toecutter Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 yer tell me about it . sorry did'nt mean to hijack the thread mossy! Quote
lightmaster240z Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I got a nice sized shed at the father in law for spare sulo Quote
Toecutter Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 hehe yer well just in process of selecting builder for my extension so the garage should only be months away. Really looking forward to it. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 20, 2008 Administrators Posted March 20, 2008 C'mon guys, you should know better. Stop hijacking the thread. Mossy i've read various dicussions that state not all Zeds are exactly the same in terms of dimensions. Due to the manufacturing process of the 70's compared with today some Zcars vary slightly in dimensions. This is why you see the adjustable strut braces for early Zed cars. You know the ones with the threaded ends on each side. If it doesn't fit, its probably worth returning to the manufacturer and either getting a custom made one or buying one that is adjustable. Quote
zedevan Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 ...idiots! anything thats removable and worth $200 or more is potentially for sale lol. i was hoping to start tearing it down to sell parts but i'm alot busier than i was anticipating...how i miss the relaxing life of working full time! to get more off topic i've just bought myself a daily so i can atleast get around now again with functionality and a few luxuries how far off is the brace? the holes are oversized enough to take up a bit of slack, as the nuts aren't undergoing sheering stress against the holes this isn't an issue, so you could even slot them a bit if that helps, and thats all i did for the rear of my 260z, as luckily the brace was to long, not to short...and the way its angled i could just make it work! nat0_240_chevZ Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 ever think its had a hit like all of the zeds available, except those mysterious ounes in country vic somewhere. check the chassis dimensions, and checkthe rails for parallelism, also squarenes of the whole front end. this would be my first point of call, as even a small gutter hit can chip your bonnet on the guards and kink severely the rail @ the tc rod support. nato Quote
sco_aus Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Another point, is i found when I first got my Techno Toy Tuning strut braces, I could only fit them when everything was cold. If the car was warm, the metal had moved enough to stop me from being able to install them, weird, but it did. Quote
mossy Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 I've done some rough measurements and everything seems to line up, bonnet gaps are good also, maybe it is the factory tolerance issue or lack of it. I'll leave it for now as the car is currently being stripped for a bare metal respray and some rust repair. Quote
