How much money do you want to spend?

Are we talking a pair of s/h Hilux calipers only,

Or are we talking 6 piston Alcoms, carbon rotors, etc all round.

Both are "upgrades"

But slightly different on costs!

Clarky there was a bloke who picked up a grill from me late last year who was doing a full willwood kit on his racecar and offered to sell me his old setup which from memory was a combination of rx7 and commodore.....said it was perfectly fine but he had the funds to upgrade and thought why the hell not go wilwoods....... ill have a look through my msgs to see if i can find his contacts.......would be fine for your purposes and race proven also so might be worth a shot

Have Srs1 280ZX rear brake set up with new rubber kit to install . Includes milled attachment brkt from Les Collins + backing plates & brand new 280ZX rotors . You will need calipers to complete the set up. Also have 280ZX front calipers complete but will need a new internal rubber kit  . PM me if interested .

Hey guys sorry about the late reply, im looking to spend around 1500 for front and rears, i been looking at hilux caliper on the front and the r31 rear disc on the back. Has anyone done this conversion does it work well ?

Hi Clarky. Hilux and r31 systems work well for most people but a master cylinder upgrade is also recommended to a 15/16" master. There is a tutorial in the brake section for both the setups. Here is the R31 as a kit from a member on here all you need is rotors and pads http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=201627960292&alt=web

Here is the 2 links for the brake tutorials

Hope this helps

Howdy. I'm the one who sells the rear conversion R31 Kits you can see on ebay. I can do a special club member price for them and even help you get a full kit sorted for for well within your budget. I run Hilux/R31 setups on both my Zeds and have done many conversions on other Zeds. Send me a PM if you're interested.

hi Scoota,

how well do the hilux brakes work compared to the s4 porsche brakes ? quick question,

do you or can you make the hats for the front 260z struts for these to fit ?

i am new to the 260z seen but have read about both conversions....

just wondering if the extra cost is worth it when comparing the hilux vs porsche brake upgrade?

ps sorry if i hijacked the thread.

cheers

Hilux fronts are straight bolt on. No need for hats, other rotors.

If using the S12+8 caliper, use stock rotor, may need washer to get throat centred, mst dont.

If using vented S12-W ( wide?) there are. Number of rotors out there that need a bit f maching,/ holes redrilled to inner pcd.

Ie Nssan Sylvia Turbo S13 mdel, Mitsi Verada , SAAb 9000, and a few others.

ok that makes sense, hilux brake upgrade is basically a bolt on upgrade.

when compared to the Porsche s4 upgrade which would be a customised upgrade.

As i usually upgrade the suspension, brakes then power in that order.

Are the porsche brakes( if i went that option over the HIlux ) that much better than the HIlux brake upgrade ?

I am thinking of a turbo engine upgrade down the track so its key that the car turns and stops accordingly.

thanks in advance.

Above link the German stuff, no worky,,,

Porsche is a wank factor, how much the kit, how much foe pads, how much for rotors, etc etc.

Toymotah stuff is gonna be way cheaper, and you'll find, when pushed hard the R31 Skyline rear single piston calipers with their tiny pads, will be lacking.

Many have tried, and found out!

One thing,,, they have a handbrake function, rather important for engineering, with a turbo.

Engineer will no doubt want better than stock fronts, hence the toyota wide version, over a vented rotor.

Make it all look standard items, and engineer wont give you grief!

/\ /\ /\ What he said :) . . . .  Apart from the bit about tiny pads on the R31 Brakes and pushing them and they will fail. I did a burnout demonstration in my V8 Zed and Busted a uni joint on the axle because the rear brakes worked that well.

R31 pads are those squarish ones aren't they, pretty much the same size through to the Z32? I use them on a ventilated disc Z32 spec, no problem at all on the race track. They, like all pads, will only have excessive heat problems if the disc is too small for the job.

It's the sold rotor from the R31, that gets hot.

Vented Z32 is the go, but cant get the mech handrake R31 caliper to stradle the wider vented rotor.

Road/spirited driving use, Scoota's kit is perfect!
