PeterAllen Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 If anyone on here purchases these moulds I'll be your friend for life. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ferrari-250-GTO-Datsun-240Z-260Z-fiberglass-body-kit-mould-set-/282013399906?hash=item41a94efb62:g:~U8AAOSwXj5XGZ11 Quote
Brabham Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 You should buy them Peter, relatively cheap now. Are they the molds your kit is based on, if so it would be a crime not to buy them! Quote
PeterAllen Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Alex, if they were for my kit I'd be all over them and not mentioning them here, or elsewhere. With the scarcity and cost of Zed donor cars I don't think there is a market for these kits anymore, though I've always wondered if they could be easily adapted to another common donor. If mine was ever damaged beyond the point where I couldn't repair the panels I think I'd just take the insurance money and buy a Morgan, like I should have done in the first place 10 years ago. Quote

Maybe it could be made to fit a S1 - S3 RX7 ? PeterAllen Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 And then you could develop your wood working skills Nice one. Wow, check this out. In the UK they've fitted these kits to Porsche 924s so I've just checked, out of curiosity, the price of a second-hand 924 here in Oz. I couldn't believe it, <$10k with only 25,000 klm on the clock, that's cheaper than a rusted S30. Not sure if a 924 would pull the skin off a rice custard but I'm still amazed at that low price. Brabham Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I think they did a 924 turbo. But I'm not sure you'd want to cut that up either. Was thinking more for replacement panels if an existing replica got damaged. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 5, 2016 Administrators Posted May 5, 2016 In the UK they've fitted these kits to Porsche 924s so I've just checked, out of curiosity, the price of a second-hand 924 here in Oz. I couldn't believe it, I've driven a 944 non turbo and must say I loved it. Certainly not got the grunt of the L6 in the 240z and a bit asthmatic as the revs climb but a lot of fun. I think Jeremy Clarkson said he ached for 1 after driving it. ""And then they fitted flared wheel arches and a new four-cylinder 2.5-litre engine to create the 944. I wanted one of those so much I ached. In fact, if I were to draw up a list of the 10 best cars I've ever driven, the 944 turbo would certainly be included. You can buy them these days for five grand." I have to agree with him, and if I didn't already have 2 many 240z's and an FD RX-7. I'd certainly look at a 944, probably the turbo if it was within budget. Honestly I don't even know what it is I like so much about them, it's hard to pin down 1 thing but I think the build quality and how solid they feel along with the noise, it just is a drivers car. It's the kind of car most people's girlfriends would hate, which is why it's so good haha. I think they did a 924 turbo. But I'm not sure you'd want to cut that up either. Was thinking more for replacement panels if an existing replica got damaged. They did, and I'm not sure you'd want to cut that up either. It can be hard to tell the difference between a 924 and 944 kind of like the difference between an Early S30Z and a later S30Z the experts know, but Joe Public probably doesn't know what to look for outside of badges. Nope. The 924 used a 2.0L 4 cylinder from a VW van. The 944 used Porsche all alloy 2.5L engine. Huge difference there. Quote
