620Z Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Yeah seen it before. A very nice car with heaps of mods. For anyone looking if they got it for 20K I reckon it would be a bargain. To build something like that would cost over 40K I reckon. For all those talking about modifying their own cars and spending a bomb not to mention the time. This would be a quick entry into the higher end of the Zed market. Quote
24OZ Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 not sure about the L20 turbo, probably worth more with the L6 or better performer with RB/SR turbo and what about the 'boot' Quote
MR260 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Personally i reckon they killed the look of a 240z with that boot mod. and seems like a strange engine option to me. 130kw at wheels isnt all that much really. Still its a hell of alot neater than my 260 and a bit more guts too. joel Quote
George Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 what does everyone else think of the boot mod? Quote
monkey Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 what does everyone else think of the boot mod? just shocking Quote
HELLFIRE! Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I like it but not enough top do it to my own Zeds. I would think that water would pool and rust it out worse than the standard hatch. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 22, 2008 Administrators Posted February 22, 2008 what does everyone else think of the boot mod? Never liked this mod myself. I was resisting commenting on this car based on the "if you got nothing nice to say, don't say anything principle". However I can't help myself. Its certainly not the worst Z I've seen and in many ways looks quite nice, but I definately wouldn't be paying asking price. $25,000 is alot of money for a "personalised car". I think the choice of L20 Turbo is a boring one to say the least and its certainly not an inspiring engine. I would much prefer a Triple carbueretted L28 in there. I could live with the Skyline C110 tail lights (might have got that wrong) but the rear hatch area just doesn't do it for me. I would be interested to know though if it cures the tail gate fume issue that the Zeds have. At the end of the day I haven't seen it in person so can't comment on the workman ship but I wouldn't pay more than $12k myself for it. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 22, 2008 Administrators Posted February 22, 2008 Hmmm having another look at it, maybe I'm being a bit harsh. The bodywork does look nice and I'd hope it certainly rust free and had a decent bare metal paint job (looking at asking price), but I'd have to remove the rear hatch mod and that alone would probably mean welding cutting and painting so to me it ruins the value of the car. That's the main reason I wouldn't want to part with more than $12k for it, but for someone who likes the car the way it is, maybe its not such a big deal. What do others think? Quote
chris240 Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Geez Gav $12K !!! you cant get a half decent zed for $12k. You are being very harsh. Yeah the bird bath on the hatch & tail-lights are not my scene, but Ive seen worse body "makeovers" Hmmmm this car isnt one for the purists. Quote

I think I am being harsh, but also realistic if I was looking to buy the car myself that is. Personally I wouldn't buy this car. That doesn't mean its not nice, its just not the car for me . When I bought my Z a few years back I paid $7,500 I think I got a bargain but then again its not perfect either. I guess it is hard to buy a decent Z for $12k now as it seems there are less and less floating about. Its a shame in a way cause I want another one some day . Quote
240Z_au Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 I concur with Gav. I see very little value in this otherwise nice, but brutally modified car. This Z will most likely suit younger audience (for its looks and the ‘turbo’) who would feel some kind of affiliation with the older Z brand, (very small niche) This segment however would not be parting (easily) with $25K or even $20K for this car. People who appreciate originality (a much larger segment) would not even look at it and the other large 240 buyers group (what I call ‘the sensibly modified originals’ buyer) would likely see this car as too far removed from the concept of “sensibly modified’ not to mention ‘original’.. Frankly, since the question was asked what the audience here think of this car, I would have to rate its value (to me as a purist as well as a sensibly modified originals junkie) to be between $8 and 10K MAX. This car will only be purchased when the price falls way low or someone just falls in love with the whole thing. Quote
zedevan Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 the chrome headlight buckets would produce an interesting amount of glare for oncoming cars lol. i wonder how they did it, if its a paint/coating or metal insert... at one stage i really liked the look of this style of hatch, but when i was thinking about it i atleast was going to buy a rusted out one to hack up, and not mould it into to the body so it could be swapped back easily! if an rb30de vvti 240z with coilovers sells for 30g then i dont see what luck this car has of selling for 25g Quote
620Z Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 I also agree the hatch isn't my style either. But it still looks a nice clean model with plenty of mods that do cost money. Granted the power is pretty crappy for a Turbo but I figured this could be beefed up. But then again if I was paying 20-25K for a Zed I wouldn't want to be doing to many more mods. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 24, 2008 Administrators Posted February 24, 2008 I guess as moderator / webmaster I perhaps should refrain from judging cars and how they are modified. I don't want to scare people away from joining the site and I certainly don't want people to feel that I am overly critical of any car. I know myself it can be hard to find a very true original car in top condition, it took me 4 years to find my current car and its by no means a perfect car either. I also know that not everyone wants an original vehicle and that there is nothing wrong with modifying a car. I hope I haven't upset anyone with my comments and I think in future I should keep personal opinions to myself - I don't want people to be afraid of submitting their cars to be featured on the site after all . RBZ 260 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 yeah ive seen this car on carsales few weeks ago. but i thought the price was bit on the high. though got to say the car does look nice and lot of money spent on it. that rear hatch ferrari style dont do it for me too. but it seems a popular mod in japan. seen lot of pics of JDM ones with this but the ones ive seen were removable. as for the headlight cone trick i think he only used chrome vinyl sticker treatment. it is interesting but i think would look even better with headlight covers added for more integrated look. engine wise well its turbo i guess so i dont mind it. prob swap the block for l28 to match the looks with bit of performance. overall not bad but not my cup of tea and im a mod junky. if price little bit lower so block could be changed for l28 and rear hatch returned i would have payed 25K. Actualy im lying i would have build my own but for people that dont have time space or knowledge it aint a bad car. Quote
modular9 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 gav : I dont know about that.I am in a similar position for a company i do occasional freelance for. I know where you are coming from but ... In no way did you pillory the car . All you did was present your opinion. Which i happen to agree with BTW. I dont think you need to moderate your opinion just because you are a moderator. That isnt really fair. Also a potential buyer might surf the forums looking for help to buy a 240/260/280. Perhaps this person is asking whether 25k is fair or not. It would be good to read opinions of current owners of the car type he/she was buying especially regarding this car. Funny thing was that you guys debated my car when it was on ebay. Lurker ( back then ) that I was I took what you said on board and snapped up an absolute bargain even by mid 2007 standards. Think of yourself as doing a service to the z community which of course you are ! Quote

This car is STILL for sale, but for 19.5 K now. I see it was originally listed for 25. I hope you guys don't judge me too harshly for saying that I quite like the car. I know many of you are very much purists and you really hate the boot mod. I must say I prefer the original rear end but it doesn't actually turn me off. What I was looking at was the good fuel economy that the seller has described. If you have seen my other posts looking for a Z you know that I'm going to be using it as my daily driver, and this car has piqued my interest. Still its about 5K out of my price range, so I won't be going down to inspect it anytime soon :-\. Can't believe seller dropped price by 5K though... he must be getting desparate Quote
