I can hear a slight low frequency noise when sitting in my car while idling?

Put my foot on the clutch pedal the noise goes away, release it comes back so that would rule out thrust bearing.

You need a keen ear to hear it and there is no strange sounds driving so i wonder if it's the start of engine bearing or box bearing any way of deciding?

gearbox, if it was the other way it would be the thrust bearing.

the thrust can make a noise if it is just touching and is dry, but you would hear it come on once you used the clutch not go away

If the thrst bearing is jst losely touching the clutch fingers, and if worn, then yes, t can wobble about and harmonc.

As soon as you put fot pressure n clutch pedal, it loads the bearing onto its races, and the note changes/dissappears.

Just because your foot is off the clutch pedal, does not mean the thrust bearing is not in contact, unless you have a return spring on clutch fork, and have the slave pushrod adjustable.

Hmm, I'd like to hope its only the thrust bearing. Maybe I'll remove the slave cyl see if the fork / carrier backs off the clutch

I've got the same issue in my FD RX-7 a slightly noise with the clutch disengaged and when it's engaged it goes away. It's not loud enough to drop the gearbox and be worried about it.

Most manual gearboxes, even near new ones will have some degree of roll over noise. You should hear the T56  in my Commonwhore...as Gav says no where bad enough to pull and fix.

Get underneath t, and pull the clutch fork right back so its knda loose/wiggly, then go start car, f noise s gone, its the thrust bearing.

Pulling it right back has t clear from the clutch cover fingers.

I managed to drop the clutch slave away and pull on lever, no change in noise so I guess a box rerace will be on the cards some time.
