Hey guys,

I've come across this mirror that was initially marketed to me as a 240z mirror, which it is obviously isn't... does anyone recognise it as Datsun/Nissan or is it just a generic replacement mirror?

Looks like a generic mirror - seen similar ones like it before, but not an OEM item.

Did this mirror come off a red 1971 240z? Looks like a mirror I may have put on a car many years

ago when I was not worried about originality. I think it was an RX4 mirror, certainly looks familiar.

I like that style mirrors, I have been looking for OEM Mirros like these for a while.

Dave Sholtz has it on his red Datsun 240z and they look great!

I cannot say with absolute certainty, but that mirror looks like a dead ringer of the external mirror that came on my new 1976 Datsun 180B.

I believe it's been on a 240z/260z most recently - I don't know what colour but the seller is in Queensland.

Iceberg - would you like me to get some contact details from the seller for you?

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

Does anyone knows if the original mirror is the same for left side and right side?

Just flipped the mirror?

Saw one left side for sale in japan and another left side for sale in Us.

Stalk angle is different between LHD and RHD mirrors. So not the same.

Hopefully we all have the same left and right though :P

ps. I presume you are talking zed mirrors? If so, then I believe Gav is correct (surprise surprise)

Yes I was referring to the original 240z mirror as delivered to the Australian market.

I do have an original mirror, so if anyone knows of a way to reproduce the correct stalk and take a mould from it let me know?

Yeah the original export market door mirror. The guy selling left side on ebay says can just flip the mirror and use it as right side mirror.

I think you can do this for a functional mirror that will look similar, but from all my reading you can risk breaking the mechanism by twisting it, plus at the end of the day, it's not correct despite looking close to it.

I think the bigger problem from talking to a few people about it is that the mirror becomes useless for actually looking out of.

An alternative in my opinion might be Raydyot mirrors.

Yes definately a Mazda RX4 mirror and very rare today. I imagine that mirror will be worth good money to

the right person, infact recently there was someone who posted an ad on Gumtree wanting this exact

mirror.

I just found out datsun 240z/260z only comes with the driver side door mirror. Passenger side has no mirror.

Am i wrong?

I googled datsun 240z advertisements, all the car in the adv has only 1 side mirror for the driver side. Now i know why everyone is selling left side door mirror..

Yes AU market only had 1 mirror on drivers side for the cars that didn't come with fender mirrors.

I can't speak for all markets especially European though I believe North American and Australian were similar only 1 mirror.

Interesting how people drive/park back then with just one mirror.. So gav u has one side driver mirror right? Wanna sell?

I'll get the left side mirror off ebay.. Hehe

It took me 7 gears to find an AU spec rear view mirror. So it is not for sale, but if someone thinks they could replicate the stalk using it as a template for casting I would be interested in talking to them.

My 73 240z had the single side mirror. I was a learner driver when I used to drive it around. To be honest it was a little odd not having it for changing lanes but I always do a head check anyway for my blind spot, especially in an S30z with the rear 1/4 - c pillar profile it can be a little difficult to see in terms of visibility. However it was never a huge deal, at least it didn't seem that way to me.

As an FYI, here is a European specification HLS30 which is Portuguese specification. (Apart from the fact that the car is drop dead gorgeous and stunning in this specification) with Kobe Seiko wheels (with DATSUN "D" caps), what appears to be OEM fog lamps on the front bumper and chrome trim headlights you'll note the single driver door mirror (since it's LHD).

It is a bit odd looking at a car that is so similar to the Japanese Market Specification, yet is actually true to European specification. The only thing I'd change about it is the rear spoiler, I'd swap it out for the "ribbed" version first seen on the 432-R.  8)

Yes the angle is different  :) . Did you ask them how functional it was (passenger mirror)?

Those are fender mirrors and not s30z ones. They are very similar to early AU market fender mirrors but a little different I have a thread on here with detailed photos of AU market mirrors.

Common in most Australian delivered cars back then. My first car was a 1979 Holden and even by then it only had a factory mirror on the driver's side.
