evolutionise Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Hi all, Being a complete novice at this, I came across this engine combination. http://www.lewisengines.com.au/l-26-28-engine-packages/?page_context=category&faceted_search=0 Forgetting what it costs, what's the advantage in this combination (L26/28 combo)? Thanks Sam Quote
d3c0y Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I think you are miss reading it, they are just saying they build L26s and L28s. L28 heads have larger valves. Sounds like you need to do some reading as there is plenty of info out there on all the head and block combinations you can do being a 40 year old motor. Quote
andyk_79 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Interesting this person has done exactly that: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/st-james/engine-engine-parts-transmission/datsun-l26-w-l28head-original-close-ration-5speed/1078751181?utm_source=criteo&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=LF-automotive&mpch=ads Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 11, 2015 Administrators Posted June 11, 2015 L26 crank is same as L28 as far as I'm aware it's just the bore is larger in an L28. So using L26 block might be to retain matching numbers? In any case you've mis-read the Lewis Engines site, they are saying they build L26,l28 may as well include L24 also. The L28 heads have bigger valves, that is their advantage and the fact that most of them are designed to tolerate unleaded fuel, earlier heads don't tolerate unleaded so well.. Quote
evolutionise Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 cool no probs. Has anyone here done any engines with "Lewis Engines"? Quote
lightmaster240z Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Why not talk to Peter Mac or Les Collins about the motor you want to build Quote

dat2kman Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Certain L28 heads have better port flow characteristics ( P90) at the detraction of a higher volume chamber. The N42 needs a lot more port work, and on a like for like ( porting work) basis, the P90 is superior. One other head, that is also a later type injection head, is the OSL, bit hard to find, it has the superior port shape characteristic as the P90, and biggest advatage, it has the tight peanut shaped 37cc chamber, as standard. Valves are woefully small, but once same dollars are spent on the usual new valves, seats, guides, and porting, the OSL will be the gun head for high performance. I have one of each available for sale. Placing a OSL onto a 2.4 or 2.6 bottom end will resuot in pretty good compression numbers. Placing it on anything above 2.8 litres will see even higher comp, that then needs managing. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 05L (zero five L ) Commonly found on L20ET R30 2 litre skylines. Quote
