KatoKid Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 My car was in pieces when I purchased it so cant tell for sure...... The screws that hold down the scuttle/cowl panel between the bonnet and windscreen....is there any rubber strip underneath or does it just screw down directly on the top of the plenum? Thanks. Riceburner Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 My car had nothing between it, but it's probably been apart many times Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 16, 2015 Moderators Posted April 16, 2015 Never seen a zed with anything underneath. Even fully restored ones I've seen don't have anything there. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 16, 2015 Administrators Posted April 16, 2015 No rubber seal underneath where the cowl meets the firewall, but before that is a foam padding where it sits on top of the scuttle / frame bit. I can take a photo if you want? but I'd imagine Clarke rubber would be your best bet for a replacement piece. I can also imagine it probably held moisture and didn't help with rust, although the scuttle panels don't seem to rust that bad compared to other areas. Quote
PeterAllen Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 ... but before that is a foam padding where it sits on top of the scuttle / frame bit.... This looks OEM to me on my 3/71. I can take some measurements in the morning if it will assist. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Clarke rubber would be your best bet for a replacement piece. Make sure its closed cell foam, as its designed to not hold moisture. Ordinary foam would be like using a sponge. Quote
dat240z Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 There are also little grommet cups that sit on the dash side of the cowl which holds them firm. Engine side is held by 4 screws. Quote
KatoKid Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Thanks guys for confirming. The foam was on mine and had done a nice job rusting through ....stupid idea! Cheers Quote
