I have had my 74 260Z for the last few years and I'm currently going through a refresh of it. Rust removal and re spray.

Welcome, I was like you flicking through this forum from time to time and then decided to join not so long ago. It's good to see another 260Z owner to compete with all the 240 guys, even though I did want a 240 myself and ended up with a 260 lol not complaining though.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Will definitely need to put in an entry for the project section of the forum. Just need to find where I put the photos of the old girl the past few years.

 

Justin, I was the same looking for a 240 especially given my daily was a 280zx. Found the 74 260z at the time and knew she was for me, especially while on the jack stands. Had been a very long search prior to that.

Nothing Boost for me I actually like the 260Z better and if I'm not mistaken there were less of the 2 seat versions built then there were 240Z's built.

Another + for the 260 well at least in Queensland is we can fit much larger engines due to being able to list the 260z 2+2 weight for a modification plate.

Can't fit a 20B turbo or a na quad rotor to a 240z!

Ha, yeah never thought about the 2+2 weight advantages when it comes to engine options - true.  was just being a douche, 240/260z - 2 seater are the same things.... both exquisite. To be honest fanatics like us would probably be the only ones these days to even pick the difference....

What it comes down to is 'they just don't make them like they used to'. The old school style and appeal is what gets me. Newer cars just don't offer the same feel, something gets lost some where.

Yes indeed 44014 I'm not sure how many people are aware of this and I only had this discussion with a 240Z owner from this forum a few weeks back on here after they kept questioning me. The 240's weight is 1070kg allowing for maximum of a 4.28 ltr engine, so not sure how there putting LS1 engines in them, but good luck if they can get around it but I'm not sure where they would stand if push comes to shove.

 

A 260Z 2+2 has a weight of 1220kg allowing for a maximum of a 6.1 ltr engine by the following.

 

In section 2.13.1 vehicle mass, of the vehicle standards bulletin 14 national code practice it states the following.

 

The mass of the vehicle is the original tare mass of the model vehicle fitted with the largest engine available for that model in Australia but without optional accessories.  The mass of the vehicle, weather its ( here is where its interesting ) a sedan, station wagon, utility, etc should be based on the heaviest sedan version of that model (not station wagon version ) sold in Australia.

 

So the heviest sedan version or any version of a 260z is 1220kg being the 260z  2+2.

I agree Hokin years ago I had a 180B SSS that I did up and loved it, wish I had never sold it or at least the motor I did for it, be worth a lot now with a SSS big port head and twin 48's and much more.
