warrenz Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Hi Finally picked up the car with its new paint job. It was in the shop twice as long as I expected. Now the re-assembly begins. Hopefully this is where all my photos and little plastic bags with labels in them pays off. Warren Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Fantastic Warren! Got to be pleased with that?! Quote

fufu Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 OH MY GOD... that looks awesome. Can't wait to get mine to that stage. Hope Kym doesn't take a long time on mine. Quote
matt drago Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Hey Warren, Good Stuff. It looks suspiciously like mine Paint shop had mine for 2 weeks and it looks great. I'm very happy with the job that they did spraying it and the job that Dad and I did on all the prep. Now, as you say, to put it all back together, just got to get the vinyls and rubber kit cleared from customs Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Good Stuff. It looks suspiciously like mine SNAP! hahaha Nah, they both look great! Congrats Quote
warrenz Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 Hi Matt, Yours looks good, what colour is it exactly. My painter could not get the original colour silver from 1973 so we picked out a Nissan silver from 1985 (Silver No. 248) that closely matched the colour the PO had painted the car some time during the 1990's. Mine was meant to come back with the standard valance panel like yours, instead of the spoiler. I got him to paint both but he fitted the spoiler instead of the standard panels. Hey fufu, Kym said someone came into his shop and asked if he wanted to sell my car. It wasn't you by any chance ? Warren Quote
matt drago Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I used Debeer paint and the color is Silver 901, the original 1973 color. Well, that's what I asked for and when I got the paint for the engine bay mixed, they didn't say that they couldn't do it, so I can only assume that it is the correct color Quote
lightmaster240z Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Looking good Warren you have inspired to look into a pro respray soon for my 73 Quote
thuanthuan Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Hi there just wondering, how much a paint job will set you back?? cheers thuan Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Hi there just wondering, how much a paint job will set you back?? cheers thuan How long is a piece of string? Quote
aegean Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 It depends on how much preparation you do yourself, and what you want done. If you want all the door pillars done, as well as the front/rear windscreen areas, this means stripping the car right down, interior out etc., which is the best way. Then you have chrome/bumper removal, and engine out if you want the engine bay done. Then you have the old paint removal, etc. etc. There is a lot you can do yourself that will help with the preparation, and will save big bucks, but a rough guide is +/- $5,000. A repaint in 2 pack will cost $1500 in materials alone, so anything you can do to save time for the painter will save you money. It should be remembered that to get a successful 2 pack respray, it is necessary to go back to bare metal as the different types of paints will cause a reaction, and while it may last for a few years if you don't go back to bare metal, you will get bubbling under the paint eventually. mikedoeslife Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 How long is a piece of string? Exactly twice the length of the middle to the end Quote
matt drago Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 We did ALL the prep work our selves (Dad and I that is). Took the car back to metal, interior out, did the engine bay and door pillars and inside the doors, bonnet and tailgate. The car was in undercoat and rubbed back with 800 grit. A tow each way (Dromana to Frankston) plus final prep and spray (in 2-pak) cost me $1640, including materials. Quote
Scando Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 That's a real good price. Gotta be happy with that Quote
warrenz Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 After some solid weekends and nights I am back in business and on the road again. A couple of minor items yet to go on the outside, the main one being mirrors. The interior needs to be put back in and under the bonnet needs work plus install extractors, triple Dellortos and electronic ignition. But is was great to have a drive after so long, although it had no acceloration and sounded slightly off. Turned out one of the spark plugs had failed. Cheers Warren Quote
Toecutter Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Good to see it back together. Looks like it just left the dealership in 71! Are you going to put new datsun badges on the sides? What the status of the Dellorto situation Warren? Sulio Quote
warrenz Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 Yes, the Datsun badges will go back on, I need to touch up the white lettering. Got the Dellortos mounted on a manifold but have not bought the linkage kit yet. Hoping to see your set up on thursday night. Warren Quote
Toecutter Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 oh right, i'll bring em along. I really should mount them on the motor now that the Buller cruise is done, maybe after the cruise on the 15th Dec. Quote
Toecutter Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 A nice example for you to aim for when it comes to buying some wheels for your car Warren. Silver on red goes down nicely hey!? Quote
