Datsun260z Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Hi all-just hoping someone has a set of factory wire wheel centre caps for sale.. I'm sure this is not going to be an easy item to find but any help will be much appreciated. If originals are out of the question can anyone tell me if there is a suitable alternative available ? I'm not overjoyed with the General Lee look of my hurricane rims and would like to change to wire wheels asap but really need caps to finish off. Need to fit 55mm opening so looks to be quite unique compared to centre caps I have found on ebay so far. Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 There are no such thing's as factory wire wheels. They 'may' be a dealer option but I doubt it I suggest you look closer at your rims & ascertain what brand they are, & go from there. Also FWIW, Wire Rims on Zed's look horrible (unless you're Scoota). Buy a nice set of MiniLite / SupaLite / Watanabes wheels instead. Quote

I just checked out the wheels and they are Dunlop - Made in England (is that good or worse ?) Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 8, 2014 Administrators Posted June 8, 2014 Are you sure the wheels are Dunlop? They usually make tyres not alloy wheels. Can you post some photos? You may need to remove the wheels to determine brand as they may have stampings in the cast on the back of the wheel? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 8, 2014 Moderators Posted June 8, 2014 Wheels are probably made by "Auger"? or some other Australian company. You may have to take a wheel off and look on the inside for more info. May be easier finding other period wheels rather than parts for an older wheel. Quote
PZG302 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Dunlop wire wheels were used extensively on British cars such as MG's Triumphs and Healys. So you have scored well if they are in good condition and also if you have the centre hub type with the knock on spinner. Best bet would be to speak to someone like the Healy Factory as they are also distributors for wire wheels, not sure which brand though, they should be able to help you out better than the usual suspects who deal with Zeds. dat2kman Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Yes , original UK Dunlop wires, they were avail in a 4x114.3 pattern for a lot of Brit cars, Triumphs, etc. Try the Healey Factory, but be ready for the shock. The very common push on type caps came in a few different hub hole bore diameter fitments, they will be chromed plastic. Is your centre hole exact at 55.0 mm? Quote

Hi Guys and thanks for your help.I have checked wheels and Dunlop emblem is stamped in rear along with various serial /production numbers. Opening is 55mm.. I have found a vast assortment of end caps available and they are really quite inexpensive. I think a set with 60mm width tabs would be wise as the 55mm opening extends down to around 4mm then opening is slightly wider and continues tapering down to 65mm opening at rear. Quote
zeds4ever Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Can you give the name of the suppliers please as I have a set of "spoked" wheels on mine but some of the caps have split. They also have the Bald eagle symbol on them which I don't really like as it typifies american look. Regards: Alan. Quote
