Stivva Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Just came across the above on Speedhunters, an Rb26 head mated to an L series block. I don't have any further details, can any shed some light on this build? Original article found below http://www.speedhunters.com/2014/02/nostalgia-rules-at-japans-best-vintage-show/ Quote
Ledge Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Stiv Im putting RB30 single cam on my Z. I assume amount of work would be similar. If you cant do the work yourself you will be spending upwards of 8g to do it. BTW this isn't my engine Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 2, 2014 Administrators Posted March 2, 2014 8g is still cheaper than an O.S Giken set up. But I'm sure there is more to that set up than an RB head conversion. I think bang for buck rb30 block + 25 or 26 head is the way to go if you want twin cam L6 on the cheap. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 2, 2014 Moderators Posted March 2, 2014 I had the RB25DE setup in the zed for a while and it was the best for a street driven zed; quite, smooth and plenty of rwKw's. Just needed some good cams to liven it up a bit. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted January 28, 2015 Administrators Posted January 28, 2015 Ledge I can't find your RB30/L thread, wondering if that project has now stalled given the RB26 dying and the purchase of the Hako? Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I have previously confirmed the following. all headbolts and cylinders line up rb-L6. main points of difference -size of cooling jacket ports, head-block -location varies slightly of cooling jacket ports (not alot) -front of rb head to l block almost the same, but need to adapt chain->belt -rear oil drain on RB is massive compared to the L, and needs the most amount of attention, but very do'able. how much money you got? andyk_79 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Are there any performance benefits doing this over using an RB series block - genuine question? Or are the main drivers practicality (use existing drivetrain, engine mounts etc) and nostalgia (keep original engine number) ? Quote
pauly_adams Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I know of a member on here who has done it, it takes a dam lot of work and plenty of machining Quote

It's all about nostalgia, in particular the RB30 head appeals to me as it's the closest you can get to the LY engine. Administrators gav240z Posted January 29, 2015 Administrators Posted January 29, 2015 And some FCR's to make it even cooler Hey mate, I was actually going to ask you if there is a thread on here where you detailed installing those flat slide carbs on your car? I was going through your build thread but there's 30 pages so if you have a link to a post feel free to link me up! Quote
Riceburner Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I don't think I did any sort of detailed thread, it was just a few basic posts in the build thread. Was there anything in particular? Quote
sydney mike Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the appeal is that AFAIK, ADR's prevent us from fitting triple carbs or any carbs for that matter to a late model engine such as a RB, that you can't go backwards in terms of pollution gear. So a way around it may be to fit the RB crossflow head to a L and run the triples on that like a 432. I assume if you can find an original carby-run RB30 from a Patrol 4wd, you might be able to do it that way? Ledge Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Ledge I can't find your RB30/L thread, wondering if that project has now stalled given the RB26 dying and the purchase of the Hako? Gav I sold the car that the LY replica was destined for to help fund the Skyline. I still have the parts and it will eventually go in the Skyline. But yes I am focusing on the RB engine Pete is building for my track car. The LY replica will start again after that. Quote

The RB30 head like the LY head has a hemispherical combustion chamber which has advantages in itself but yes the easiest way to do it would be slot an RB30 block in a Z. I don't think I did any sort of detailed thread, it was just a few basic posts in the build thread. Was there anything in particular? Rather than go off tangent on this topic I'll send you a PM. Gav I sold the car that the LY replica was destined for to help fund the Skyline. I still have the parts and it will eventually go in the Skyline. But yes I am focusing on the RB engine Pete is building for my track car. The LY replica will start again after that. Fair enough, we can't do everything. I do like the idea of an LY replica though, would be really cool for a Rally Car replica . Quote
