Hey guys, i have a few car panels that I'm ordering from the Z store. The package should be of a moderate size, as most of the panels are

long but not wide, and wouldn't weigh very much. The total cost of the parts is around $300, but i was quoted the same amount again for

postage via fedex. Is this the only method of shipping they use? Can i insist they use someone else?

I don't need the parts fast so I wouldn't mind surface mail.

What have other people done?

Thanks guys.

Panels and bigger things like spoiler seem to be expensive freight wise, US sellers don't seem to care much about getting a cheaper price too. But at least USPS, FedEx and the like do all the customs stuff and deliver to your door, be careful of supposedly cheaper alternatives who add on the extras once they have possession of your stuff.

There are companies that ship things from the US to Aus in containers for cheap if you are willing to wait for your parts.

Get it shipped to the www.usatoaus.com depot and get them to send it vis sea.

I got 4 wheels and tyres sent from LA last year for $80 but took 5-6 weeks if i remember correctly.

Yeah that sounds good to me, I don't need them urgently, lots of welding experience to be had before I touch these.

I knew if i asked I'd get the right answer!

Thanks guys.

I have also experienced high postage and freight costs from the Z Store (MSA) and also other suppliers. It is the one downside of the otherwise excellent value and service I have enjoyed in dealing with USA based suppliers.

In one instance when dealing with Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE) we were advised that the freight on a single spoiler was the same as that for three spoilers in the same package. On this, and subsequent orders, we got three people together and split the freight between us.  I suspect that it might be the volume of the package that has a high influence on the final freight cost.

It might help if You talk to them about what else you might be able to fit into the package to enable the freight cost to be of less significance in the final order. If you are ordering bulky items, perhaps email around your personal Zed circle and ask if anyone else is wanting to order a few things that complement the final outcome with regard to bulk, weight, and total value of the order.

Despite the above, most of us are not in a huge rush to receive the items so the alternatives of cheaper, but slower, freight are well worth considering.

Minimum for 4 wheels is $100.00

And to ship a panel it's $250

Still cheap for shipping wheels!

I just paid $300 for a set of 4 from california.

Yeah its very cheap. They gave me a discount because their main port is in Melbourne or something. Although i did get stung with a customs/quarantine charge..can't remember how much but i think it was $50 which is something you may want to factor in.

Yeh it's the customs agents charges that can kill any savings so be very careful there. They can basically hold you to ransom and charge whatever they like.

Hows that? On what grounds?

They don't need grounds, unless you get a door to door price a customs agent can charge whatever he likes to release the items to you. It happened to me with a spoiler from Z Store, their supposed cheap freight turned out to be not cheap at all.

Oh Gorram it. JT imports seemed like a good idea with a total cost at around $200. But i was then told by The Z store that I'll get an 8% tax because the item will be sold and sent within California. :/ this is ridiculous...

I'm currently looking at getting carbon bumpers and front and rear spoilers from the z store.

If your prepared to wait a bit I would be willing to go in with shipping with you.

Cheers Doug

Probably won't work out all that economically considering you're both in different states to me...

Not at all, was like $30 to get bumper bars sent to brisbane from Vic with e-go couriers.

High prices and bad service.

Welcome to Australia,

No manufacturing industry, and redonkulous prices because we are so far from civilisation.
