I use a Gemini cover, re-levered to provide 1350 kgs of clamp pressure, on a machined steel L20B size fly, with a five puck solid centre plate.

Works well,

Low moment of inertia in getting it to change it's rpm, due to lower outer mass.

Use ARP bolts for Toyota 3SGE.

 

Have a set of brand new ones if anyone interested!

I have fitted the lightened l20b flight wheel to a stock l28

How much difference in power delivery does a lightened flywheel actually make?

Because it rely does not feel like a stock l28.

If I press the loud pedal to far around corners in second my rear end brakes loose very easy.

I struggled to get them to even chirp with the old l26. The l26 made 80rwkw on the dyno. The l28 feels closer to 100+ rwkw

It's all to do with physics and moments of inertia.

By reducing the larger outside diameter mass, it is much easier to increase the rpm when power is applied.

Conversely, it does not provide higher retardation force when power removed.

I have noticed smooth gear changes are a little bit more challanging. But we'll worth it. It's so much more responsive.

I noticed a big change when I put a lightened 240z flywheel in my Z. Loves to rev.

My last zed had an L28 with mild cam and lightened flywheel with twin carbs and made 115kw at wheels and was great to drive.

My new Zed has an L28 fuel injected and I think mild cam but standard flywheel and doesn't feel anywhere near as responsive so I think lightened flywheel is the way to go but what's the ideal weight?

In an ideal world the flywheel would weigh nothing as it is effectively a drag on the engine's ability to rev. There are limits you can safely lighten a flywheel to though before the chance of failure increases, which for anyone that has been in or seen a car with a failed flywheel is downright scary.
