zzzzed Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I am lookin to find se shorter gears for my 240z. I currently had 3/7 and is hurting the power delivery of my rb20det. The propper ratio for a rb20det as informed to me by fairladyz is 4/3 which would be ideal. I have a 3/9 LSD which I am yet to put in but I am doubtfull if it will be the best match. Where is the best place to find the lower ratio long nose lsd's would like 4/3 if posible but would Concider other ratios Mick Quote
PeterAllen Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 This doesn't directly answer your Nissan enquiry but one of the huge advantages of installing the Holden diff, which 'red76z' and I have done, is that 3.07, 3.46, 3.73, 3.91 and 4.11 ratios are freely available, and all in LSD configuration... And, there are no breakage risks with the Holden CVs. I picked up a complete LSD rear end for $150! I think there would be a bit of a market for someone to provide an installation kit for these. It is a pity GM do not fit them to cars in the USA otherwise the chaps on HybridZ would have been on to this, but I see they are how installing Ford IRS diffs in their S30s. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 31, 2013 Moderators Posted January 31, 2013 My 4:4 lsd came from a turbo R31 coupe import. The auto has the 4:4 ratio. Quote
luvemfast Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Mick, I have an R200 4.375 ratio LSD from a 200ZR in my Z Just make some half shaft adaptors and redrill the input flange, then bolt it in. I did used to want a replacement to taller, for more top end. Cruising on the highway is a bit uncomfortable @ 3,400rpm. But after the Calder sprint meet, the 4.3 is spot on for what I want. On the track, I have yet to top out. There's always Phillip island nationals Quote
dat2kman Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 R180 or R200? The 4.375 ratio in R180 is rare ( Nismo option only) i have one for sale, open with bolt in half shafts. With your rb20det, you have probably elected a R200? Then the 4.375 ratio is quite available in DR30 and R31 model Skylines, depending on auto or manual. They are not a full complement LSD clutchpack, they have spacer rings fitted, but to set them up as full plate complement the clutch plates from Holden Rodeo utes go straight in, and are a touch thicker than the Nissan stock plates. zzzzed Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Ok my LSD is from a dr30 so my be a 4:3 then. How do I tell off it is. Quote
NZeder Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Ok my LSD is from a dr30 so my be a 4:3 then. How do I tell off it is. Well that does depend on the model and spec - some have 4.11, some 4.375 (or commonly known as the 4.4) and some have a 3.9. For Jason R200's we are talking here. Best way to tell is drop the rear cover off the diff - turn the crown wheel and get the number of it 39:10 = 3.9 (which is the number of teeth on the crown and pinion) a 4.11 is 37:9 and the 4.375 is 35:8 Quote
dat240z Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Im in the same boat zzzz. I run a rb25det through a 3.7 diff. Its doing 115mile per hour in 3rd! Im after a 4.1LSD longnose Quote
Fairlady Z Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Mick if u get the mech type dr30 or r31 your stock driveshaft just plug in. Probably wont last long but it get u going. Also z31 has but later model (87-88) have viscous type and cannot use ur driveshafts. If u get z31 or r31 rear arms u can fit the half shaft from them and easy shortening of the r31 cv joints. Thats what i did to my 260z. I got a cheap machinist that can bore out ur hubs to use metric bearing. He still has my template. Shortening cv is quite easy. Swap the race around and regrove the spline back as far as possible. No binding. Worked a treat. Yes my lsd was 4.375 out of r31 coupe rb20det. Though on 2+2 would have preffered 4.11. Just try your 3.9 and see how it goes. Can be done without $400 adaptors and looks stock. Machining 200-250 of ur hubs plus new bearings. Just need to find the arms and cv cheap. Ill try find my old link Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 1, 2013 Moderators Posted February 1, 2013 Jason, which model Rodeo Utes do you get the clutches from? I'm curious as I want to increase my locking a tad. Quote
zzzzed Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 I will fit the 3:9 when I get the chance. And If it dosnt suit I will sell or swap it for either a 4:1 or a 4:4 Quote

Yeh mine was doing 200 kph in 3rd on the dyno. But it only made 128 rwkw because the gears were to tall and my tyres were an inch to tall. I have since gotten the correct sized tires. I hope that helps a bit Quote
