  2. looks like these have been bead blasted http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-240Z-260Z-FACTORY-ALLOY-WHEELS-/332125809183
  3. what was the original finish? gold inserts ( and on the back) and polished alloy rims. with clear over the top? i got autosol, but the plating's gone bad on the inserts
  4. got a set with my car and they're buggereed. mechanically perfect, but the coating is all stained and flaking. My understanding is that they need to be bead balsed ( not sandblasted) and then powdercoated with a base coat ( and possibly clear). does anyone know what colors, coating are supposed to be used and can anyoen recommend a place in melb who will do the job? i do have a sandblasting setup , but my understanding is that it leaves the alloy surface too pitted for a good finish thanks all
  5. getting a big box, so let me know what you need
  6. i'm making progress does anyone know where to get the correct multi colored wires from ? the onyl place i could see is some american supplier on ebay. surely there must be some local automotive elec. supliers that sell it by the meter?
  7. manual for the dif (pd3 says GL5) and 1L CASTROL AXLE EPX 80W-90 is GL5 - seems the same specs as the penrite gearbox is listed as GL4 (1.7l), so 2 of these should do http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Castrol-VMX-80-Transaxle-Manual-Transmission-Fluid-1-Litre/1582 i wonder why the penrite right says good for gearbox and diff?
  8. this stuff will work fine? http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Penrite-Gear-Oil-80W-90-2-5-Litre/342306
  9. the old one broke off, so i got a new ones, but can;t see in the FSM how to replace it . do i need to take the rear cover off to do it?
  10. quarter window frames door glass steel wheels ( swap for 260 mags?) uncorroded indicator bulb sockets ( same as 260 and 2+2 i think) with good rubber seals thank you
  11. well, the big day arrived when i'm putting the wiring/electrics back in to the bare shell. i have a copy of the factory manual scan ( shocking quality), which has the basic diagram in it. so here come the questions - numbered for convenience 1. the turn signal sockets are buggered. i had a look on the net and they look like 1157 type sockets, but the lugs don;t match. from what i can tell, its a dual filament, 3 lug bayonet waterproof socket. does any one know the actual code or where to get them from 2. where are all the earth points supposed to be? < pictures if possible pls> 3. how many relays, of what type are there meant to be and where do they mount? a. for the turn signal b. for the hazard lite ( 2 pin?) c. for the wiper motor ( still attached to the motor, so i think i'm ok there) d. for the horn ( i think the small square one on the left side under the glovebox) i'm hoping they're all basic 2 or 3 pin can type analogue units like these http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/store/electrical-wiring/flashers-relays/1021626?page=1&pageSize=24&sort=-ProductSummaryViewsWeighted%2C-ProductSummaryViewsTotal. i'm also getting one of those H4 realy kits for the headlights, so that shd be great i'll get a couple sockets from the vintage connector place as quite a few of them from the engine bay are toasted and corroded thanks in advance
  12. how thick are they? from what i can tell, the difference between this jute material and carpet underlay ( which is what I was going to use) is that it's more conformant to curves, which is why they use for molded carpets surely someone has this locally?
  13. can anyone tell me the thickness of that carpet underlay looking material ? you can just see it here http://www.spannerhead.com/category/240z-restoration/page/2/ is it the same material/thickness that goes onto the firewall cover? https://zcardepot.com/interior/firewall-insulation-pad-kit-240z-70-73.html
  14. i got a full set, about to put it on. seems good to me. gotta use with a special anti-gall compound, which are all well documented. they don't ship any suspension bolts though

  18. hi all, just trying to work out what these brackets are for ? I'm pretty sure they go somewhere in front and either support the bottom bracket for the dashboard or the console. problem is that i don't actually remember which one. can someone kindly describe or send some snaps on how it works. i can see there are a couple of holes at the front of the console, but not really sure how it all fits .. and i can;t find any pics on the net
  19. rough condition, usable as repair sections or to restore. PM if interested
  20. to use to repair my frames . just need the very bottom section to be structurally ok, the rest doesn't matter. don't need the skins
  21. 240z and 260z holes are different as far as i know, but that may vary on v.early 260s if anyone in this thread can help with a pair of STANDARD glass, I'd appreciate it. my one is sratched thanks
