I don't think I've actually seen a Z in that wine red colour. What a sheltered life I must lead. Looks very nice Shiva!

ranting about anything car related so Lurch doesnt lock it out :o)

Well that's a bit crap. Hope everything works out for you personally first of all. And then as a result you get to keep your Datsuns. -
Right you are Gav. After a bit of back and forth and a few months down the track, I think a much more reasonable price was agreed on. First things on the bucket list are: Wheels. Have sourced some and they are on their way to me now. Mirrors. I've been looking around online trying track down either some original chrome door mirrors, or something of similar style. Have found a number of original L/H ones on ebay, no R/H as yet. Unblacken outer door handles on locks. Tidy up console and fit an outer gear lever boot Fix tacho and reinstall (may have to find a replacement) Attempt to clean up tail lights and front park/indicators. Someone decided it would be a good idea to give them a bit of spray on tint And the list goes on!

So I finally bit the bullet! I've got a fair bit of tidying up and various other odds and ends that should keep me busy and the wallet empty for a while. But it's registered and driveable so hopefully I can have a bit of fun in between! I'll start a build thread in due course but I'll put this here just as a teaser........

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
GK510 replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Spot on Mike. The cars in the background in the undercover car park pics is how I picked up I on it back when they were selling the green 240Z. I wonder if they are actually a licensed dealer given the number of cars they seem to sell...... -

GK510 replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
I'm pretty sure this is being sold by the same person that sold the green auto 240Z that was bought by andyk_79 from ebay. Seems like they sell quite a lot of cars on ebay under a couple of different user names. I wish I had the same access to the inside word to enable me to pick up "collectible" cars like this seller seems to be able to! I'm not suggesting that there is necessarily anything untoward with the car. Hell, if I was in Sydney I'd be going for a drive to have a look at it. If you were interested in the car and perhaps you could PM andyk_79 to get his opinion on how accurately the seller describes the vehicles that they sell on ebay based on his past experience. -
Thanks for the tip. I had seen some of them on ebay but they were more more expensive than MSA, and the shipping cost they had listed was ridiculously huge. And they don't come with the Z centre caps Thanks for the offer. I was eyeing off your for sale thread. I might give you a shout if I don't come across anything else that fits the bill. Are you just stating a fact? Or do you have some of these to sell?

It certainly ticks all the boxes in regards to what I would personally like in a 240Z. Even though it's about 2.5 times as much as I'm about to shell out for a 240Z in the next day or two, I still think it represents good value at that price. I can see that I would be spending at least that much on top of the purchase to bring the car I'm looking at up to anywhere near that standard. -

Thanks Mr. Camo. I had seen those ones on gumtree but I'm not really a fan of that style. The others you posted are a newer style than what I'm wanting. Geez I sound like a picky bastard! Has anybody else out there got those Enkei Compe's? If so, did you get them through MSA? The wheels themselves seem reasonably priced but I imagine shipping would be a bit of a killer.

Thanks for the pics Linton. I just came in from the garage where I've been working on my 1600 so your post is very timely! .Certainly is tidy looking. Your Z looks like it's setting a good example there. Very nice indeed!

I saw those but if I was to get some globe style rims, I would prefer the type without the bolts around the outside. But hey, I probably can't be too fussy if it want something second hand and reasonably priced. I probably would consider some 14" jelly bean style or hot wires etc as they probably would suit the current look of the car. I do have some pics but don't want to post anything until a deal is finalised. All good things take time! But in regards to the current wheels fitted to the car, old crappy chromed steel rims are what's in place at the moment.
-
Ah.....no, just no. From the windscreen forward, it looks out of proportion with the rest of the car.
-
I have a purchase pending on a 240Z and the first thing that needs to be done to it is having the wheels replaced as in my opinion, the current wheels that are fitted are a crime against humanity and ruin the look of the car. Just thought I'd put the feelers out and see if anyone has anything lying around that they want to move on. I know they have been done to death but I'm thinking along the lines of Superlites, Panasports etc in 15x6 or 15x7. The car in question has standard suspension, no flares etc. so I would need something that will suit this setup. My head is still spinning from the number of different threads I have read over the past week in regards to what are the best size/offset wheel to suit, but it seems that zero offset or very close to would be needed if going a 6 or 7 inch wide rim. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.

It's not a done deal yet. Still a couple of hurdles to get over. If it does go ahead, I am setting myself up for quite a bit more work than I had originally hoped. But due the car in question appearing to be solid in the crucial areas (famous last words! Hope I haven't just put the mockers on myself ) it might just be worth the extra work. Anyway, every early girl deserves a bit of love don't they?

I'll just leave this here.................... There's something in the pipeline which could lead to me having something to screw these onto shortly

Spotted this one just as I got home from work today. The ad had only been up an hour or two. Clicked the link to show the phone number, and bam, it refreshes the page and is listed as sold. Anyone here on here happen to grab it? There was no pics but at the price that was listed, I would probably have bought it sight unseen! Safari Brown... I mean Gold - The NSW Project
GK510 replied to gav240z's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
Good to see you making slow and steady progress on the panel work here and there. I bet you wish you were spraying on new coats of Safari Gold rather than burning it off with a welder Gotta love it when you have Datsun goodies arrive in the mail too. Who do you normally go through to buy off Yahoo Auctions? You have probably mentioned elsewhere but I couldn't really find an answer when I did a search, which is probably due to my lame searching abilities rather than the info not being somewhere. I have been close to biting the bullet and buying one of those wooden 4 speed gear knobs off evilbay. It would go nicely with the wooden SSS steering wheel that is on the way to me for my 1600. -
Haha, just flicked over to channel 7 at the perfect time to catch the line above from F&F That must mean you need to forget everything I wrote in my previous post and make with the 3.1 stroker George, stat!

I have contemplated having a look at it, but I can't help but think the "novelty" of the lhd would wear off quite quickly. And as Cracker mentioned, I think it has been for sale on and off for a while. Don't know if the reason it hasn't sold is just because of the lhd bit or something else. It seems be be fairly neat and complete but from the pictures it looks like its been repainted at some stage. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing as long as any rust that was evident at the time has been repaired/removed properly. Anyone else had experiences with a lhd Z in Australia for things such as rego and insurance? And what do people think would be a reasonable difference in price if you were comparing this with a similar condition Aus delivered rhd car? Surely the market value would have to be at least $5k less for the lhd. -
Hi Matt, I just sent you an email. Your post above has partially answered my questions. I look forward to seeing some more pics.

Oh, my bad Mandela. But I kinda got the impression that this build was going down the path of being an original restoration. I'm sure George could get plenty of jolly's out of an L24 on the street anyway so why not use it. But by all means, as I said in my previous post, go for a different motor if the aim is to have more fasts! And no, definitely no Ja Rule here.

Looking good. I can almost hear the induction noise from the ITB's just by looking at the photos

Congrats on the new purchase. I hope it's relatively smooth sailing for you from here on and you get it on the road with a minimal of fuss. I was sitting here with an itchy trigger finger watching the auction toward the end and almost had a "why the hell not" moment but managed to contain myself. Even did a quick last minute PPSR check on the car too. I assume you would have done one but if you didn't, I'm more than happy to forward you a copy. -
