If the member making reproductions is looking for more business, he has a guaranteed paid-upfront buyer here if he would like one.

Can I ask what you found? I'm looking for a 5 speed gear knob myself so I'm curious as to what you came up with. Dan.

Recommended SU Carb rebuilder and tuner in Melbourne.
Herbonius replied to Daalp1's topic in Fuel Systems
Daniel at DJM Automotive has done great work on my car. -
My car has a white interior in good condition: It's pretty difficult to keep clean. Marks are constantly showing up on it and are quite difficult to get off. I am very pleased with the look of it though and wouldn't think of changing it.

Has anyone made up a template for a bracket to attach the choke cable lever to the transmission tunnel (instead of the center console) on a 240z or early 260z (I understand that they are in the same position)? If someone has one handy, it'd certainly save me some time. Thanks, Dan.

Z Car Fan in Melbourne - EDIT: Bought a Car!
Herbonius replied to Herbonius's topic in Introductions and Forum Etiquette
Done a bit of stuff with the car since I got it. New paint job to put it back to 110 (?) red, put on the 16x8 Rota RBs (offset 0), put in a new Bosch alternator, converted it to manual a 3.9 diff, put on 240Z carbs (MASSIVE difference) and put on the fender mirrors. Next up will be to put on a Kameari air dam and to drop it just a couple inches with some king low springs. Maybe some Koni yellows in the future too... Just waiting for a good price. After that, there's not much I want to do with it other than just replace some rubber parts, to get rid of a bit of wind noise in the cabin and then just drive and enjoy it! Really enjoying driving. Take it out around once a week for a drive around the country and to go camping. Bit dirty at the moment but no sense washing it in the rain! -
It is indeed! Didn't want to call you on your weekend but I got it going again and have now parked it near your workshop. Will give you a call Monday to see if you have time to do some work on it for me!

So, I just broke down in bumper to bumper traffic on Punt Road. Assuming that I'm not going to get my Z going again tonight, can anyone recommend a 24 hour towing company in Melbourne? Hoping not to get ripped off!

Posted this in another thread but reposting for visibility. I've completed the manual conversion on my car but I need an inner shift boot (the rubber that goes under the vinyl shift boot) as I'm not enjoying all the heat and fumes that comes up through the hole. As I had to make the transmission hole a bit larger to fit the new gearbox, I'm assuming that the stock inner shift boot wont fit. Has anyone got any recommendations for a replacement part?

Hi Mikey, I'm in a little bit better situation financially now and so can afford to pick it up for $450. Am I able to swing by Saturday to pay and pick up the parts? Dan

Bam. Not a very happy new year for me unfortunately. My car was reversed into a few days ago and I have some pretty serious damage to repair. I'm insured with Shannons and they give me my choice of repairer. Could anyone recommend a panel beater who fix this for me and also fix some other panel damage that happened as a result of this accident?

Hey mate, do you still have the S30 Kameari style front spoiler available? It's the one with no ducts, right?
-
I apologise but I will actually have to pass now. Had a large unforeseen cost come up and can't spare the cash righ now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I've done nothing on my Z the past year and I'm a little ashamed of that fact but if I can get enough time, I will try to get there! Dan

If this sale falls through, please let me know as I am interested in picking these up.

Is it a four or five speed box? If it is the five speed and as long as the gearbox fits with a 260Z, I'll take it. From what I just read though, I'm not sure if it'll fit? If it does, I can pick up this weekend?

I'm living on the corner of Chapel Street and High Street so unfortunately my neighbours are coffee shops, pubs and convenience stores. I ride a motorbike too so I was planning to ride to where the car is parked when I need to drive. Funny timing actually, great video just went up this week on Petrolicious about car enthusiasts storing their cars in the NYC!

I've just moved to a new apartment in Melbourne's inner east and unfortunately, there is no parking whatsoever. I really, really don't want to have to sell my Z so I was wondering, does anyone know of any cheap undercover parking options? Dan

I've decided to bite the bullet and just upgrade to an 80 amp Bosch unit and be done with these issues. If anyone wants my old alternator and regulator to recondition and restore, it's free to a good home.
-
Hey all, I'm after a tested and proven alternator to bolt straight on to my L28. I don't have the tools or facilities to make any modifications so I am looking for something that will need minimal, if any, modification. I'm currently without a car so I need this to get back on the road! Dan

Am I Correct in Diagnosing a Faulty Alternator?
Herbonius replied to Herbonius's topic in Electrical systems
Thank you for the info. Running at higher revs has a negligible effect on alternator voltage output. If I'm measuring directly at the alternator, I can safely assume that is the issue and not the regulator, correct? -
I've been having electrical issues for a while now, my battery going dead after driving with my lights on, occasionally having to jump start the car, etc. I'm new to this so I wanted to get some verification that my testing methods are correct. I'm measuring around 12.25 volts directly out of the alternator with no accessories on and that number drops to around 11.75 volts with my headlights on. That is indicative of an alternator that needs to be replaced, right? I've checked that the belt drive is seated correctly and that the belt is tight. My battery is new and I have also put on new brass battery terminal connections after noticing one was a bit loose. I checked the resistance between the ground of the alternator and the ground of the battery and it was around -0.01 volts, which should be fine too? Forgive me if I'm a little off with my terminology and testing methods here, I just bought by first multimeter this morning and went out and did some testing after watching a few quick YouTube videos. Anyway, am I safe in assuming that I need a new alternator?

Great video with extensive performance comparisons between a 370Z and RB26 240Z. Nissan Project 370Z vs 1970 Datsun 240Z with RB26 Track Battle! Many months ago, Nissan asked their fans to help them create the ultimate 370Z track car. They called it Project 370Z. To put it to the test, Nissan fans were asked to vote for a challenger to compete against it. They chose a 1970 Datsun 240Z with an RB26 engine transplant built by Gordon MacSwain. On this episode of The Downshift, we head to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for an epic David vs Goliath battle between these two amazing machines.
