  1. Ooooh they are shmexy! The only other thing I'd want is that they are able to recline.... Very nice find!
  2. oh apologies, i missed that post. Yeah mid September sounds good... But would someone mind setting a date if possible? I get booked up pretty early :-\
  3. Ahhh I'd so be up for this if I was in the state for next weekend...
  4. Can we set a date for this, I'd like to grab some more parts soonish... I vote for 2 weekends time.
  5. Oh no! im going to prep my shell properly, im getting it garnet blasted and then getting Lurch to do the welding (i plan to help as much as possible). I just thought if i could then simply put crappy paint on, just to protect it and allow me to drive around for a couple of years until i can afford a pretty decent paint job. (but i dont want to have to pull it apart again...).
  6. hmmm ok, basically all i want to know is whats involved in turning a car with a perfect chassis (yet to be completed ) that has a crappy paint job, into a a car with a very good paint job (from a spray painter). Will the car need to be sanded right back? or will a light orbital sand do the job with no primer necessary? Also, is it a great issue that windows and rubber trim will be in the car when its properly sprayed? (is it possible for a paint job to look good when you cant overlap the paint under the rubbers?)
  7. Holy C that looks amazing as a ratrod! Can anyone tell me, whats the process for painting a car properly after its had a quick paint job like this? Lets say I run with a cheap satin paint job that i do myself for roughly 3 years. Am i able to then get it sprayed without it needing to be stripped in any way? (ie. no media blasting, no removal of glass, engine or interior). Will a proper paint job done this way never look quite right, because you cant get into those areas that you normally would be able to when the car is fully stripped? I'm keen!
  8. Well here are some pics... as you can see, the underneath of the car has about a cm worth of grease and dirt all over it, but you can see that the ends of both rails are rusted right the way through. The on on the passenger side is actually rusted up through to the foot well. Considering this, whats the best plan of action? https://www.dropbox.com/s/fmqvobrppa45f3d/20120812_132603.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/a9zx59xzold94od/20120812_132549.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/l7i1q4d96mpycqy/20120812_132648.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/d1479jhswtj60gm/20120812_144110.jpg Lurch, if you were to do the work (i could help you in any way possible too) what would you charge for a regular sized rail, and an extended rail?
  9. I'm definitely in! I didn't pick up everything i needed last time... Dimitri, you are a LEGEND!
  10. Yeah, will do Lurch! $1000??? is that what a mechanic would charge to do it, or what you would charge??? I am quite keen for the rails to extend all the way to the rear of the car because it really shouldn't be too much more work than putting a regular one in.
  11. WOOOOH this is all great stuff here! yeah pics would be great! I'd definately be keen to pay either scooter or Lurch to get it all done. I've been wanting someone to see my car for a while so they can give their professional opinion on various aspects. This is the perfect excuse! I love AUS Z CAR
  12. hmmm rails to the back sounds tempting... im guessing that would stiffen up the chassis quite substantially... I'm thinking that the floor-pan will need a good looking to as well, so i think ill just take it along to a fabricator and see what they can do for me... Thanks for the info guys! very helpful!
  13. What is the best thing to do what you have rusty under carriage rails? I'm not sure if this is the right name for it, but its the two rails that travel the farthest towards the back of the car, ending roughly underneath where the seats are. Is it possible/ a good idea to take these rails off, and put new ones on (where the hell would i be bale to find these???), or is it better to simply de-rust the area, and get a welder to patch in some plates and strengthen the area? If this info is too convoluted ill take some pics tomorrow. Thanks guys!
  14. Im just wondering if its possible to buy a whole kit of those rubber grommets/ plugs that seals holes in the car where things like wiring and tubes have to come through... basically every plastic/ rubber part on my car has degraded, so it needs to be replaced. I would preffer if i could get all the bits in one go...

    Christmas BBQ

hey! what are those cool vents under the side indicators???
  16. Ah man! I love and hate you guys. There are so many good responses here, and all posted so quickly! But I'm still so confused!!! I think I will go with the blasting, just because I want to get the project moving along...
  17. Hey guys, So im at the stage now where i'd like to get the car sprayed soonish, but first i have to get the car all prepped. I have two main options; take the car to get sand blasted, or give the car a decent rub back with an orbital sander. I have been told that my car has quite a few dents in it, so getting the car sand blasted will involve a great deal of panel beating afterwards, which i would do myself (mainly rebogging). But on the other hand, there is currently two layers of paint and bog on the car, so in some areas it is up to 5mm thick. I have been given a quote for an external sand blast (inc engine bay) and a prime for $800, which i believe is reasonable... But is it worth all this extra time and money, or should i just give the car a decent sand back?
  18. yeah, thats what i told them, but they still had no idea... they said that its probably called a different colour here in Australia... I dont know, maybe they just couldn't be farked...
  19. Hey Stivva, can you give me any more information about the colour of paint you have? I've gone in to nissan to ask about the colour, and they are about as helpful as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest....
  20. Hi guys, i have a few spare parts rolling around my garage and i thought I'd move them on and get the cash flowing again . I have: flat top carbies with manifold 260z 2 seater rear tail lights (need repainting and reconditioning) 280ZX power steering rack 260z seats (minus the pivoting mechanism, need recovering) 260 arm rests (not great condition) other random bits I'm not really sure what most of these are worth, but give me an offer and I'll do a little research and if that seems about right, its yours! Pickup is from the IVANHOE region.
  21. If anyone already has a 1/10th scale car i know of a place where you can just get the body shell from and you can spray it up any colour you want. (you can make a mini version of your own car!!!) Unfortunately i just upgraded to 1/8th scale, so im pretty sure i wont be able to get it to fit, but I'd love to see someone else grab one and spray it up themselves.
  22. Well, they have virtually no competition... It's obviously marked up doubly. when I was in the shop the other day there were 3 people working, And 1 person in the shop...
  23. So i went to Clarke rubber and got a quote. They said it should roughly cost $200... A little much for my taste... So i went online (ebay) and had a bit of a looksie for some high density foam there. I can get a 1"X24"X30' roll of high density foam from the USA for $90 and $12 postage! While I know that 1" is not thick enough, i see no reason why it can't be tripled up and glued. In actual fact, this should make it easier to cut it into the correct shape...
