No matter what car I buy id be tempted to tinker with it, but the 300zx is a pretty complete kit as it is. I wouldn't really want to do much with it. I would go one of the smaller turbo nissans, but I have the curse of the p plate, and will have it for a while too... Basically id want a pretty stock car because I like the sleeper look of modern sporty cars, and the 300zx looks hoony enough as it is for me.

From the sound of thingw in relation to the car posted above... it seems as though the previous owner did all the tlc Stuff... I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow and tell you guys exactly whats been done to it.

Here is what im interested in (rear carefully, I got confused). http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/nissan-300zx-1989-14469127?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=30&page=3&eapi=2&__N=1246%201252%201247%201282%204294963846%204294963448%201216&num=15&silo=Stock&sort=%7ePrice

Are 280zx turbo P-plate friendly?
DreamZproject replied to DreamZproject's topic in General Discussions
K makes sense! i always thought we got the turbo version here.... oh well. -
hahaha good on ya lurch. Here's the problem... I have a very cool '86 honda accord. The engines in those things last forever. Problem is, it needs about 2K worth of stuff done to it now, even though i have already replaced shocks, clutch, most bushings etc etc etc. So i was thinking that I'm better off sinking money into a car more deserving of it. The other thing now is that I have nearly full time work (4.5 days a week) and i have to drive from Ivanhoe to east bentleigh and back each day. So i need a car that is relatively modern and reliable. From what i can see 300zx's give you the most bang for your buck all around. I really don't need it to be a super-fast-drag-rice-box-ule, I'd keep it mostly stock and as i said, keep it as a daily and keep working on the REAL Zed. Is there something i don't know about 300zx's? basically for a daily driver what i was impressed with in consideration to value with the 300zx is; - Boot size (i know its not huge, but better than a sedan because i have to cart a cello around so a "hatch" style is better) - RWD while its not the most important, i would preffer either RWD or AWD - power to efficiency ratio... decent amount of power, ok petrol consumption. (VVT) - Looks amazing - Air-con - ABS - Airbags - The interior!!! - Handling (from what i hear, very decent for a GT sports car) - What i thought was reliability (but you guys can tell me wrong...) i mean, its Japanese! Please grace me with your almighty Z knowledge and give me the facts... From what i can see you can get a decent 300zx for 7k, and nothing that i can pick can even touch that for value.... But i have been wrong before

Urgent Sale: 1982 Nissan 280ZX Coupe, Silver
DreamZproject replied to socialmediamanagement's topic in Cars For Sale
Really doubting it, but car still available? -
I would have thought, no way! But according to Vicroads; Application Required From 6 July 2009, drivers issued with a probationary licence on or after 1 July 2007 may drive some lower performance turbocharged or supercharged vehicles. The definition of a lower performance turbocharged or supercharged vehicle is a vehicle with 6 cylinders or less that is: turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio of less than 100kW per tonne Now i know you would have to apply... but damn, that wouldn't be bad for a P-plater considering that; 1,356 kg (2,989 lb) 2+2 (134 kW; 182 PS)) at 5,600 rpm and 203 ft•lbs (275n•m) of torque at 2,800 rpm Another consideration... was the 280zx turbo brought out here?
-
Bah i saw someone had posted and i got all excited! But yes that sounds interesting... Just need the car first...

Title says it all. I'm in Victoria and am after a daily driver (the 260 project is a way off). Show me what you've got!

The ever present carb Vs. Efi debate...
DreamZproject replied to DreamZproject's topic in Fuel Systems
Once again, annoyingly... Lurch brings me back down to earth! Think about this shit later when the car is ready for that stage. Unfortunately I'm a little tied up with my daily driver at the moment, getting it into proper working order before i spend all my cash on a car that wont be running for years... But thank you everyone for the insightful replies! I love how everyone knows so much about these cars! It makes me want to get my car to the stage where i can start thinking about this stuff. And once again, thanks for prodding me back in the right direction Lurch, i do let my head wander in the clouds... -
Hey guys, i just thought i better ask your opinions on carb Vs. Efi. I have been umming and ahhhing between the two of them for ages now, doing all the research, but now i want some personal opionions and experience to settle the matter. Firstly what i have; 260z 2 seater L28 Fuel Injection gear (stock 280zx ecu) Air conditioning (I would love to keep this if its not too much of a hassle) What i want out of my car; Basically i want everything that a modern day sports car offers. The ability to hoon around and have lots of fun in it. But doesn't cause too many ongoing issues and can be used as a semi daily driver. So from this point of view, i need the car to be; 1. Pretty reliable 2. Not too harsh on fuel (if i could keep it around 12L/100km it'd be great) 3. Have AC that doesn't make the car idle like crap Now on the other side of the debate... I really love the sound of carbs, but i have no idea whata well set up fi car sounds like! Sound is quite important to me, not loud and blaring, but rumbly and raspy. I figure the cost between the two will be quite similar. Seeing as though i would like to pull a few more ponies out of the engine i realise i would have to go for an aftermarket ECU. (I plan to get some mild/ moderate cam work done, decent exhaust, etc.) What is everyones opionion?

+1 for the 7th -
Yes this is all absolutely true... yeah i really should wait until the car is mostly put together before I get and set plans... I have recently done a defensive driving course (learned a lot by the way!) and loved it, I'd really like to do another or possibly some sort of race training... Ok, back on track, focus, just get the car to the damn sand blasters first! Thanks guys! This wasn't the result i wanted in the first place, but i realise now, there's a ton of time and money to be spent in other places before i need to consider upping the speed of the car. It's not like they're slow in the first place!
-
Hahahahaa, i was very confused at first... :s what i mean is, are these the best things to spend a G on to get some easy bolt on performance (oh and obviously some sort decent large air filter).
-
10k! damn! i was thinking around 4k could get me that on the L28... ah well, i guess you're supposed to grab a figure and double it, so im not too far off... But yeah, i think a bit of exhaust work, adjustable fuel regulator, and possibly a cheap second hand esc unit should do me for now... can anyone confirm that this would be money well spent?
-
Nah, the $1000 is just for now, later on when i want 200+ im willing to put in considerably more. I just want to know, if i spend around $1000 on the L28efi, where should it go, and what does it get me?
-
Yeah, im familiar with the cheap, fast, reliable conundrum... Really I'm after; cheap, reliable, with a touch of fast taking away from the cheap... Somewhere down the path I am considering moving to something like a RB engine (a NA RB25 would be quite nice, and rather cheap...), but i really am open to suggestions. At the moment, until im off my P's, im just looking for some moderately cheap modifications that i can wring out of the L28 from a few simple bolt-ons, but after that, I am looking for somewhere in the region of 200-250 HP, and it being NA would be a bonus. Where should i go from here?
-
hmmmm i thought that might be the problem... great info from you guys once again! The only problem i have with an aftermarket ECU (apart from me having to be sneaky about it while im still on my P's) is that it will cost an arm and a leg... I really like the suggestion of a fuel pressure regulator... i have no idea how it works, but sounds like a simple upgrade... Really im only looking to spend around the $1000 mark on performance, i just want to get to the point before diminishing returns...
-
Hey guys I'll eventually be after a mild cam grind on my L28 (stock EFI harness from a 280ZX) and i was just wondering whats the deal with it all... 1. cost (and where to get it done around Melbourne) 2. power increase (for a streetable grind) 3. issues coming from the un-tuned efi harness Anything else i need to consider???
