  1. Your shed is a god damn gold mine! I fear next time I enter it I'll emerge broke, but with many many goodies. You have a JDM front bumper? I HAVE to see that next time I'm there. I have fixed the front bumper but was just amazed to see so many high priced 280ZX's around. I remember a few years back when I was on the verge of selling my ZX, I couldn't even get interest in it for $4.5k, that was with no rust, L27 with triples, Neale Raker wheels and a complete two tone interior.
  2. Is it just a flood of people wanting more for Z's lately or is it an actual increase in market value? There are multiple 280ZX's on carsales for $5k+ which seems to me to be ridiculous. I know carsales prices are usually inflated compared to real world prices however I've never seen ZX's that expensive in my 4 years of owning one.
  3. My first engine was an MQ patrol engine, they were dished pistons. I had the same head/block combo too, N42 head F54 block. Came with a free hose clamp in cylinders 5 and 6!
  4. I LEAVE THE FORUM FOR ONE DAY, ONE DAY AND THIS HAPPENS?! Ahahahah, yeah yeah, laugh it up! I tailed Aubrey the whole way because he seemed to be the only one who was driving in my style (like it was stolen), and I was alone in my car with no idea where I was going. Whilst the damage was fixed by 9pm that night, I now have a phobia of parking complexes. I also ripped the exhaust off the next day but that's a whole other story!
  5. Thank you to everyone that came! It was an absolutely awesome day, and thank you to Peter and Shaun for all the photos, despite Shaun's detailed coverage of my mishap! Next time I'll being 3 rolls of race tape and 100 zip ties
  6. BRING YOUR 280ZX, NO MATTER WHAT BRING IT. I need another 280 to be there! hahaha We can drive our piggish 280's together in style P.S I'll even bring you a set of BP6ES for the thing!
  7. Looking forward to it! Steven and I will be rocking up together with our fully laiden Z's around 8:45 - 9 so see you all there!
  8. Got my Z re-registered today FINALLY. Running better than ever, I'm in!
  9. Wait.. aren't you selling it though?
  10. I'm sad to hear this Jason, I hope everything is okay and everything gets sorted out.
  11. OH! that's actually a good point made by Mr Camouflage. I know of a dropped 280ZX over in Texas, it's a series 1 and can fit 16x12 -20s with less poke than I can fit my 15x9.5 -57s. I think the track of the earlier 280ZX's was shorter than that of the series 2 (or later models). It could be a case of someone replacing one side due to damage but taking the parts from an earlier ZX.
  12. That is a massive amount of difference, definitely not 'normal'. Have you measured the distance from the mounting face on the disc to the edge of the guard? Is the front end geometry all out? Does the car pull to one side? And have you tried swapping the wheels to confirm that they ARE the same? One of my front guards sits further back than the other, I can't confirm how but my front end isn't completely square, it's had a bit of a knock previous to my owning of it.
  13. I'll be coming along in the Z as it's getting re-rego'ed Friday! Looking forward to seeing everyone again as it's been a long time.
  14. Cheers dude, and yeah I go 90nm, although a lot of the time I'm lazy and just go with whatever I weight on the end of my breaker bar (bad practice I know). I've had a look at fitting S30 flares on the 280 and it doesn't quite follow the arch line as well as desired. Also if you're going with flares only because there's a little bit of poke, I'd suggest putting 30mm spacers behind the wheels to fill out said flares. This is how much I can get my SSR's to poke with 30mm's, they'd probably just fill a flare.
  15. Nah you won't need flares at all. I run 15x9 -14 and 15x9.5 -27 SSR Mesh on my Z, sits perfectly inside the guards at my height. I usually run them with 30mm spacers for shakotan styling but you'll be alright. This is a picture of mine before I got defected. Neale Rakers 15x7.5 -41 (5 inch dish) and 15x8 -57 (6.25 inch dish) You'll be running 5 inch dish and 5.5 inch dish.
  16. The Six Section Mechanical Orchestra! What Rotas? RB-X's?
  17. So not much has happened to the Z while it's been deregistered, found out I have a HUGE amount of axial play in the dizzy shaft, 1~2mm. This is causing a massive buzzing sound and vibration phasing in and out at idle and causing the rev counter to go nuts. I'm currently using the electronic ignition dizzy with ignition module, what would be the next best thing? Has anyone used pertronix? So far it doesn't seem like it's affecting driving up and down the street but the last thing I want is to get fresh rego and get stranded somewhere.
  18. Aww come on Simon, don't hate on us youngin's, we just wanna feel 'fully sick' while cruising around listening to our whippersnapper beats! But no in all seriousness, I deleted my sound system too, ZX's can do with all the weight reduction they can get, plus looks more period correct.
  19. Aww hell, this is Dev's old Zed isn't it? Sad to see him sell it, but good to see someone else is looking after it and is part of the community. Welcome!
  20. I guess 2nd of December will now be my date to get the Z back on the road by. Haven't been on a VicZcar cruise on my P's yet!
  21. Have now unlocked two new modes for my Z! STREET MODE: aaaand SHOW MODE: Street mode features a ride height of 106mm all round, 235/60-15 rear radials and 205/65-15 steerers in the front on my Neale Rakers. Show mode features a ride height of 40mm all round, 185/60-15's on the rear and 195/50-15's on the front, SSR mesh 15x9 -11 and 15x9.5 -27. Also have a new face to my engine! Can't wait to get this thing registered, I miss it so much. Will be taking it to Sydney for Hellaflush in December and then to the February Jap Meet out at Banyo!
  22. Hey guys, I'm after a set of standard ZG flares (not extra wide) to test fit on (waiiitttt for itttt) my Toyota Crown. I can't find any pictures of a crown (or for that matter any square car) sporting flares and wide wheels. I've measured up using the measurements on TopStage's website and turns out that 800mmx310mm is pretty much a perfect fit for my needs. If anyone in Brisbane has a set that I could use to test fit (and then buy if the case may be) then I'd be eternally grateful for your help (and tolerance of a Toyota). Cheers, Zac
  23. I have a few contacts from my other forum! And yeah it'll be on stock ZX wheels and tires for the inspection but for road use it'll have the fins on.
  24. So time for an update on my hunk'o'junk. I got defected a week ago today going down the Western Freeway to the wreckers by a bike cop. They got me for ride height and wheels outside of the guards. Height was 55mm and wheels were 17mm out of the guards in the rear. Nonetheless they gave me 2 hours to get to the wreckers and home but they canaried the car. They've given me until 12th of september to sort my crap out, either deregister or fix all the problems they wrote down and put it over DOT. So naturally I've decided to fix it and show QLD police that they don't win. I've got a mate to cut my full length body rails out and reweld a new pair that are inset up into the body to give me another 50mm ride height clearance. That'll bring me to 105mm but it's not stopping there. To fix the rear wheels too I've just bought a pair of SSR Fins in 15x9.5 - 27 to go on the rears without spacers, they should be 20mm further in than my current 15x8 -72 rears at the moment. I'll be running a pair of 235/60-15 racing radials on them which will elevate the car another 20 ~ 25mm from it's current height which will completely fix the height issue and the wheels outside of guards problem. I'll go get it checked by QLD transport, get it back on the road and get back to what matters most, cruising.
  25. So I seem to have destroyed my second starter in 4 months. The magnets inside get ripped out and bend around the centre and locks it up. Would an RB starter be any better or do I need a high torque? Keep in mind the engine has been messed around with quite a lot. EDIT: Went for a drive last night and took a bit of footage. Here are the interesting bits! http://www.facebook.com/v/4059600221382
