Hey guys, I'm in a little bit of a pickle with the choice of wheels to fit over the 12.2" Wilwood brake kit from AZC so I need some advice from anyone in the know or actually runs the kit and what wheels they have. The car has molded flared guards with after market ground control coil overs with Eibach springs. From what I've seen the flares are about the same size as the ZG ones. For price I'm not really wanting to pay 6-700 per rim so am checking out what Rota has to offer and am considering these - Rota RB's but I'm slightly worried 17" is too big and 16" may be too small. Anyway any help is appreciated, cheers. James

Paint brand is Protec - Jet Black. We laid 2 thick coats and a wet coat. Let it dry for 2 months and gave it a very light buff then hand polish and wax. Definitely will have to drag it down for that - hopefully it's still in one piece by then.

Been awhile since an update we've been pretty busy with the car. Managed to drop the engine and and get the rest of the drive line in. Got all the suspension bolted up. Had the car polished and waxed, also put all our decals on. Fuel pumps, fuel lines, radiator mounted. Bolted on our brakes. Unfortunately now our wheels don't fit due to the brakes so were up for some new wheels and tread. Seat & Harness are now in and steering wheel, just waiting on our Dash to arrive; Hopefully that's today. Still have to get it wired up so that will happen once our wheels & tyres arrive and we can take it to someone. Also a bunch of fiddly bits but nothing to stressful at all. Anyway will throw some pics up now

I'll be out taking pics all day too. Unfortunately we couldn't get the car done due to parts taking longer then expected to ship.

I'd be in and can speak for at least 3 other Z's from Gold Coast/Brisbane QLD. I'll keep bringing it up in conversation so I'm sure a few more would be keen to jump on board. James

Hey Myles - welcome to the boards. Tidy looking 240 and at least the wife didn't make you sell it for the wedding TBH I'm not sure what's available in Central QLD either.. Unless you're happy to drive 10hrs south and hit it up with the Z Car Club QLD. James

There were some pretty weak spots in the Chassis, looks like at some stage its had a shunt on the front left side so there's definitely going to be some welding done to fix that up. We had to strengthen the drivers side floor which was causing the rail to be pretty flimsy. There's plans for a cage at some stage in the near future but for the time being we just want to get out there and start having some fun again. hehe yeah same car. The stickers staying on the car, just crossing out the 40mm webers and putting injection Also we left Dustys 'Air Brake' Dent in the back after his spin off onto the straight at LapZ much to his disgust. Engine and all the front end went in on Saturday so I'll try and get some pics up tonight. James

Don't completely write off the 280ZX, I was throwing a stock one around the track on street tread and holding my own with a few 240s and some NA Skyline's. Problem is most of them look like crap - something about that front end that's just wrong but with some tweaking you can get them looking pretty tough and their cheap. James

Not sure we'll have the Z there yet it all comes down to money to finish the car. Worst case I'll be there share driving an R34 so either way I'll be there. Will be some in-car vids from a few guys for sure. James

Original plan was to take the running gear from our old 280ZX but when a mates near new engine came up for grabs we jumped on it. He'd spent quite a bit of money building an L28 for his 280Z LHD Targa Car. He drove it to Targa, did Targa and drove back doing 6000k's all up then pulled the engine out and did a LS1 conversion. Engine Specs are as follows - Hot tanked P54 Block Bored 40 Thou. New flat top pistons & rings N42 Cyl Head – Crack tested and machined New bearings – Big End and Mains Fully balanced New Camshaft Nissan 812C 495 thou lift New Rocker Gear & Lash Pads New High Volume Oil Pump New Timing Chain and Sprockets New Adjustable Timing Gear SW Motorsport Harmonic Balancer New Electric Water Pump (CSR) Fully Modified Fuel Injected Inlet Manifold New Alloy Fuel Rail and Pressure Gauge Enlarged Throttle Body New Nissan R32 Injectors Fully Balanced and Lightened Flywheel Competition Velvet Touch Button Clutch & Pressure Plate Extractors MSD Master Blaster Coil/Fully Modified Electronic Distributor MSD 6-AL V500 Wolf Computer Modified and Baffled Sump For suspension we went with some Tokico Adjustable Shocks and Ground Control Weld on Coil Over's with Eibach springs. Were going to be running 325 fronts and 300 backs. We got a 4 speed close ratio box with the engine but we already had a 5 speed Z box that had recently been rebuilt so we'll be running that until we kill it and will then consider a RB20 box or something similar. We also picked up some 4.8 Diff Gears to replace the 3.7s we have eventually and most likely get in contact with Ben for an LSD. James

Paint only went on last weekend so it took us nearly 3 months but we've been doing a lot of other stuff in the meantime like engine, suspension etc. The original plan was to have it all done within a 6 month time frame but it mostly comes down to finances - we can only put away so much per week into it. So I've been a registered member for a few months now so thought I'd finally throw up our project to share. Jelly Racing consists of my mate and I originally who shared a Yellow 280ZX (you may remember the pic from my introduction). The name came from our names which are James Kelly and Danny Jupp.. Jupp..Kelly.. Jelly.. and were fat haha. So anyway - here goes. We purchased the shell from the VP of the QLD Z Club in mid January as he and his race partner had moved onto another 240Z Project. This is us picking it up - Yea we'll take it.. Something we prepared earlier. We decided it would be easier to just get it back to the shed then strip out everything Dusty was keeping for him to take home. The plan was to paint the car for the only reason was that for every sticker that came off the car so did the paint. First up was the engine bay, interior and under carriage. For this we just used black Hammertone from Bunnings. We weren't looking for a show car finish - far from it. It's a Track Car we planned to just give it a once over fix to stop paint peeling off left and right. Lucky enough we stuck to our plan - threw on plenty of the pink stuff and primed it... rubbed it back... primed it.... rubbed it back. Incase anyone didn't know.. this sucked but it was our first time doing a paint job so at least we can say we did it. The fact we didn't have the money to splurge on paint but managed to get a mate to 'sponsor' us some industrial enamel we had the following choices of colours - Royal Blue, Canary Yellow, Some Purple colour (quickly shut down), Red, Shamrock Green and Jet Black. After much debating and mind changing it came down to "what's your favourite colour on a car?" well the answer is below.. For a garage job and from some guys who had never done any body work before I think it's come up pretty well. Sure black's a sh!t of a thing to keep good, but as long as it looks good from 10-20ft away who cares.. that's what stickers are for James

Please only send pages 1 and 2 of the entry form. Pages 3 and 4 are for you to keep. Please do not send the self scrutineering guide… this is for you to keep as a guide. Every Driver must fill out a separate entry form. Please choose your experience level carefully as this will determine which group you are in and who you will be racing with. The entry fee will be $160 for those who get their forms and payments back to me by 15th April and $185 for payments received between 16th April and 29th April. Carport is included in entry fee. Can't say I've seen it and I'm in Upper Coomera as well. Would say I'll keep my eye out but I normally play spot the Z everytime I'm out.

UPDATE AS OF FEB 25th 2011 LapZ at the Lake 2011 - Expressions of Interest Saturday - May 21st 2011 Firstly, Thank you again for your support at last year’s event. Lakeside is undoubtedly one of the best racing tracks in Australia. This year will see the Z Car Club Qld running another “LapZ at the Lake”. With your help and support we want to make it bigger and better. This year we will have the track to ourselves. We will be running our own Open sprint session at Lakeside Raceway on Saturday May 21st 2011 separate to any of Lakeside's normal sprint sessions. As some of you may already know, QR/Lakeside have changed their pricing structures and sprint format. It now consists of only 3 sessions of 5 lap sprints in the afternoon with practice, at an extra cost, in the morning. The cost for this through QR/Lakeside is $145 for a street sprint plus $60 for practice or $175 for an open sprint plus $60 for practice and Track Attack charges a similar amount. That’s over $200. This Year for LapZ we intend to have practice in the morning from around 9 to 12 (untimed) and have 3 sessions of 5 lap timed sprints in the afternoon. Practice will more than likely be in our groups and will be untimed laps. It will probably be 2 sessions of about 4 laps, but this is yet to be confirmed! Hopefully you will actually get more track time than last year with this format. We will be running 5 or 6 groups with a maximum of 15 cars in each group (instead of 20 last year) which means a bit more room on the track this time. We will be charging around $160 per entry (yet to be confirmed) which includes carport hire, practice and sprints. As you can see the price will be a bit more than last time but still much cheaper than what QR/Lakeside or Track Attack would normally charge you. Once again we will try and keep this as cheap as possible so you can enjoy some good value, club based motorsport. License fees are not included in any of the prices listed above. -- Annual AASA Clubman Licence $55.00 -- AASA Clubman Day Licence $20.00 This event is open to everyone with all makes and models but, as we are the Z Car Club of Queensland, we would like to see lots of zeds and Japanese manufactured cars there again. (please do not be discouraged if you are not running a zed. We will accept all makes and models) I have just watched the DVD from last year’s event (which I highly recommend you purchase - it shows all cars in the film with drivers names – looks great – really well done) and it really did make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck to see so many zeds in the one place at the one time. This will be first in best dressed. We can only accept up to 90 entries. I will keep a few names as reserves if someone can’t make it. Acceptance of entries will be at the organizing committee’s discretion. From what I have been told last year’s LapZ had the most zeds ever seen at an event in Qld … so be a part of history again and join the fun. This event is open to all ZCCQ members and invited guests and is intended to be a social track day not a competition race day… FUN is the objective !!!! For those who have never raced before… A lot of us spend quite a few weekends a year racing our cars and have a lot of fun doing it but now we have a chance for YOU first timers (that may have been thinking for years that you would like to give it a go) to get out there on the track and drive your cars at whatever pace you are comfortable with. Having 5 or 6 groups will enable us to have cars entered with 2 drivers (if you need to share a car) and also to put slower cars and inexperienced track drivers in a separate group to the full race cars so there is no pressure on you at all. We will also try to have a couple of our more experienced racing drivers in the group in your practice sessions so you can follow them around to improve your skills and many of us will be on hand to answer any questions or help in any way throughout the day. This year there will also be an early morning Breakfast session for people who do not want to compete in the main event and just want to run their cars around the track at a controlled speed. A quick description - $20 will get you a cooked breakfast and 30 minute to drive around the track in your registered car with a passenger at a controlled speed (no helmets). This will be a good chance to take friends. Only people who paid for breakfast will be allowed in the cars. Numbers will be limited !!! More details will be available shortly! Inc. is happy to announce that the clubs committee has recently decided to make a donation of $100 to help with the running of this website. The Committee thinks that this website is a valuable source of S30 and S130 information, knowledge and communication for our members to use. Whilst the ZCCQ membership has a high quantity of Z car owners, the club welcome's all taste's of car owners to join. At the moment the club membership consists mainly of owners of S30s, S130s, as well as Z31s through to Z34s but a number of our members also have a more diverse range of vehicles ranging from Prince Skylines to Mazda RX5's. We currently only have a few of our members who use the website on a regular basis and a few who use it only on a occasional basis. We hope that over the coming years more members will find out how good this site is, and to use it more and that users of this forum are able to join the ZCCQ on club runs etc and that we all jointly benefit from our interaction. I would like to encourage any ZCCQ members or other regular uses of this forum who use the website to also donate if possible, even if only a small amount. About the Club The club was formed in 1984 by Alan Stean, proprietor of the Z Car Workshop who saw a need for enthusiasts to get together in appreciation of the Nissan Z car marque. Since then we have provided a means to organise social and motorsport events of interest to Z car enthusiasts. We organised the first national Z Car meeting at Easter in 1990 and started a succession of similar events organised by Z Clubs in other states. The Z Club is a CAMS affiliated club and provides a mechanism for our competition members to participate in motorsports events with insurance cover for public liability by way of the CAMS permits. If you wish to compete in motorsports events an extra fee is required to obtain a CAMS Level 2 licence. Our activities include the above-mentioned competition events such as navigation runs, hill climbs and sprint events as well as social activities like picnic/observation runs, dinners and general meetings. During these events you can talk to other owners and swap ideas and information which is the true value of the club.
