  1. Dished I think, I'll dig them out and check................ Yep dished. These are free to good home now. Pickup in Prahran. Sorry I didn't reply earlier. Must have my email settings wrong.
  2. Rods and pistons. Good condition $free Crank $free Good condition, no damage, standard journal sizes. Cam $free. 'A' grind. Good condition. Available for pickup in Prahran. Happy new year everyone.
  3. Just got the LD28 crank back from the machinist. Under 20kg with weight taken from drilling a chunk out of the side of each big end throw and tapering the counterweights. I'm going to experiment with this cheapo clutch and flywheel http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190484984855. Only 225mm diameter but will give it a go until it or the synchros let go. As for n42 block, there was a misaligned oil gallery that popped through with the 89mm overbore and thus required sleeving. Rods going in are these: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Conrods-Datsun-L24-connecting-rods-pleuel-bielle-rods-/400169862515 Pistons are K587M89 from Wiseco. Used in KA24s. These have no fly cuts in them which was a nice surprise.

  5. I'm one year younger than my Z, but in far worse condition.
  6. How did you figure out what thickness to go for Scoota?
  7. That would be absolutely invaluable, thanks Kolonel. I had a bit of a practice with the double cut carbide bit today rather than the single cut bit. It's a lot more controllable and a smoother finish to boot. I talked to a girl last night at a rapidly deteriorating socceroos party and she suggested taking a cast of the ports using silicone with vaseline as a release agent. I didn't realise it might have been her pick up line until just now.
  8. Cheers RBx, the carbide bits are far too scary at 25000rpm on aluminium for sure. I tried to get a good impression of a stock port with the clay Scoota. Not really sucessful. I'll try it with glad wrap and some expanding foam tomorrow.
  9. I just happen to have some modelling clay in the shed. I'll go give it a try.
  10. Excellent, thanks Scoota, I'll hold off on opening it right out. My chassis is actually in Avoca while the various engine bits are here Melbourne where I work. If you can get photos I'd appreciate it greatly, or even better drop in on my way through to Avoca if you have a spare 1/2 hour one weekend. Sacrifices to the gods of speed must be made Lurch.
  11. I have a laptop, die grinder and an N42 head sitting in front of me. Anyone got any first hand experience at not buggering up the porting on one of these? What are the areas to be careful of and where can I let rip without too much danger? Cheers, As an aside, what are the biggest valves you've successfully fitted into your head?
  12. Anything modified on yours apart from the porting Scoota?
  13. No idea how I managed that figure. That would be some stroker. Though Hondas have rods around that size I think?
  14. Nothing I can find. The bloke who was planning it has piked out and decided to go with a complete m104 engine, and is on benz forums extracting information about how to hook a manual trans to it amongst other things. I've been scruffing around Benz wreckers in Melbourne this week to try and find a cheap head to investigate the idea. There's a few about, but they must be used to ripping off wealthy grandmothers.
  15. Any chance you're heading down this road?
  16. Early Merc twin cam straight six, before they went coil on plug.
  17. I'll chime in! I've had an RB26 almost as long as my L26. Both great engines. Both well suited to the chassis they came in. One has more sensors than you can count and the doesn't even have a single transistor. One has 500hp and the other one has enough to be fun. One makes 10" semi slicks and 4wd struggle and the other lets unassisted rack and pinion steering, macpherson struts and an open diff handle brilliantly. One sounds like a sneezing, droning pig and the other sounds like a straight six should. I can definitely see the appeal of a high revving Carburetted RB conversion though. Best of both worlds?
  18. Genie extractors: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130389087877&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:AU:1123
  19. That sounds like a plan.
  20. Custom conrods? I can't think of anything with a 46mm big end.
  21. 21.8kg for the stock L28 crank. I don't have a standard L28 flywheel to weigh but the diesel flywheel is supposed to be 17kg. I though you were going to say check my trousers and see if I was man enough. Pockets are deep, but there's holes in the bottom.
  22. That's some hefty luggage. PM sent, cheers.
  23. Undoubtedly good advice, it's a lot of trouble for a meagre increase in stroke. Has anybody ever offset ground one of these things? The trouble is I've run out of projects so it's really as much about the diversion as the destination on this one.
  24. I'm hunting for an LD28 crank is an good condition as possible, or even better a complete running LD28. Also in need of a clutch pedal and pivot. I'm in Melbourne, happy to organise freight and it's for a 260z 2 seater. Cheers,
