  1. Potentiall Selling my 260Z Project Hi all, It's been a very long time (years) since my last post here, as I moved to the UK in 2013. Wasn't planning such a long stint here, but that's how life turned out! I've had my 1974 260Z (2-seater) sitting in storage in Adelaide during that time - with regular visits home to check in! I bought the car in Victoria in 2009 and fully stripped back to bare metal, sandblasted and all panels repaired and replaced with shiny new metal (some shots below of WIP). The body is now sitting as a primed shell and ready for filler/ sanding and paint. I also have more than all the running gear, including 2x engines (L26 and L28), 2x tranmissions. 2x Diffs (incl. 4.11 LSD), disc brakes conversion, etc. to do a full rebuild. All interior, glass, dash, etc. all in storage along with the body ready for rebuild (collected multiple parts/ components along the journey). I'm not planning to return to Australia anytime soon, so I'm now thinking its time to clear out my storage shed and sell the the 260Z project to someone who will finish the build. It's not matching numbers, but everything will be included and probably the best condition shell available - spent a small fortune on panel work and replacement, before putting it into storage! I'm looking to get a rought indication market value for the whole lot - let me know what you think. Cheers, - J.B.
  2. Cheers guys, Sounds like full sequnetial injecton doesn't add alot of value, save for some low RPM fuel efficiency and smoother idle.... next question is, is there any loss in running full sequential? The first 2 ECU's I listed only have 4 outputs for ignition and therefore are not able to run full sequential injection (I'm guesssing this reverts to semi-sequential/ batch fire). The interesting one is the Electromotive ECU, which covers injection and ignition... this ECU can handle full sequntial on a 6 cylinder, and also has an integrated 3 coil system which provides a waste-spark setup on a 6 cylinder engine. As far as I can tell this gives 1 single coil shared between 2 cylinders, which means big, fat spark (with minimal waste) combined with precision fuel delivery via a single injection driver. Am I reading that right? If that is the case, does the Electromotive require no dizzy whatsoever and could manage ignition timing using a crank-angle sensor and/or cam sensor? The Haltech Platinum 1000 and the Wolf V500 are both priced at circa $1900 with wiring looms, but no coil packs, sensors, etc. The Electromotive kit is $2,200 (from what I can find on US websites) but comes with 3 x coil packs, angle sensors and a few other bits and pieces. From what I'm reading, the extra $300 will provide better injection and ignition control at low end RPM, as well as more accurate fuel/spark when the foot goes down = Best of both worlds. Has anyone here had experience with these kits? Hopefully I'm reading this right, but I'm pretty new to programmable ECU's and ignition systems... just want to get the best bang for my buck (yes, pun intended).
  3. I've been doing some research on Fuel Injection and was hoping to get some opinions on ECU choices. The plan is to spend some dollars on getting a programmable EFI system running on my stock L28 engine, before going through a complete engine rebuild (chasing Torque and Hp). That way the fuel system shouldn't need upgrading for when the bigger, badder engine comes along. So, I've found three different options for programmable ECU systems that could work with ITB's: http://www.haltech.com/index.php/product/platinum-sprint-series/platinum-sprint-500 http://adaptronic.com.au/products/e420d.html http://www.electromotive-inc.com/products/tecgt.php From what I can tell, all these systems would run semi-sequential injection for a L28 6-cylinder. However, it seems that full sequential injection may need systems with more than 4 injector drivers. Does anyone have an opinion on semi sequential vs full sequential injection? If I'm planning on using ITB's, I'm wondering if this needs 6 injector drivers (being 6 cylinders). Once the fuel delivery is sorted out, my next question is ignition. I've researched that proper ignition management can make some Hp gains as well, which is optimised with an electronic ignition rather than dizzys and gap points. Some of these ECU's have ignition management capabilities, but does this still require the use of something like a 280ZX electronic dizzy? The Electromotive ECU system also has 3-coil direct fire units (DFU's) which drives 2 spark plugs each (using a waste-spark ignition setup). From what I've read, this kind of system means no need for a distributor, and reduced demand on the coils (as there are now 3). That ALSO means bigger and hotter spark in the ignition system, leading to better burn and (ultimately) better performance. Does anyone have any experience with the Electromotive or the other ECU systems list above? I'd appreciate any advice on these systems, or any other similar products available in Australia. NOTE! This is not a EFI versus Carby discussion, so please don't hijack this thread! At this stage it appears the Electromotive system would give me the perfect Fuel and Spark management out-of-the-box, but I'm keen to hear the forums opinion on this kind of setup.
  4. Just reviewing this post... I can see the 240Z sold, but what about the 260Z?
  5. I didn't realise that someone was knocking these up! Thanks for digging up this old post. PM sent as well Pete, hoping you are still in the Rubber business!
  6. Thriller, you might be the luckiest Z owner I know... I'm in Adelaide and MAY have a spare 2-seater roof skin that you could use to fix the roof.... bear in mind its a roof skin, not a complete roof cut (i.e no A pillars). I bought it in Melbourne last year, but I've sourced another complete wreck that I will use. It's got the curve you need for the roof and will have you sorted pretty easily (no french wheel needed!!) PM me if you interested in grabbing this. Man, can't believe this... I waited 6 months to find a roof skin and now I have 2!!
  7. Nice work Mick! Looking forward to seeing the completed body.... you've smashed though that over the last 12 months!
  8. Argh!!! Wished I saw this one.... I need that roof cut. I'm trying to hunt down the buyer to see if they are going to part-out the shell. Please PM me if you know the buyer.
  9. Zedman, you are a champ. I'll call them tomorrow to grab this one, thanks!
  10. Hi All, I bought this 240Z for parts a little while ago (wanted a roof skin and hatch) but Zzzzed and Chassis181 have both come around and told me its too good to chop! I've now got a roof skin (thanks to Zedman240), so I've decided to save this shell from the angle grinder and put it out on the market for someone else to restore: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230619073916 Any questions or queries, feel free to PM me. Cheers!
  11. Item purchased, cheers Zedman. Means that I don't need to scrap the 240 rolling chasis I have for parts. Will look to sell the 240 then as panel no longer needed. Thanks!
  12. I'm not so sure about the modification thing... A mate and I looked at starting a Japanese Nostalgic Car club in SA (he's got a RX3 coupe). We went and had a few chats with people down at Transport SA. Basically, they allow clubs that are published in the Government Gazette; meaning you need to be a registered association (costs and paperwork associated with that) and applying members need to be financial members of that recognised club. But once you are a 'registered club' in this fashion, the club secretary can then issue approved log books to club members and verify the days the car was driven (generally using the club stamp in the log book). As long as the car is not driven more than 90 days in a calendar year and this is verified by the club secretary, it will will qualify for historic rego (subject to build dates) As my Zed is off the road, I haven't really pushed the idea further. If their is support for a registered club, I'm happy to get involved. I'll continue the topic on the http://www.thezgarage.com
  13. I would be keen to pay some $$$'s for a copy of the vid. Either that or donate funds to the site?
  14. Sorry for the double post, but also wondering about things like clutch master cylinders as well... Really what I'm asking is, can I use the R33 internals throughout the car (engine, box, loom, ECU, etc) in a 260Z shell (2 seater)? Has anyone tried this?
  15. This workshop sounds amazing.... I am seriously contemplating flying over to attend. I've gotta see how well I can talk my way out of commitments with the Mrs. Z Cars: Always getting me into trouble. Totally worth it.
  16. Hi All, I've decided to go for a RB25 DET conversion for my 260... after lots of research on forums they seem pretty tough and reliable, plenty of power and still have some good fuel economy for daily driving. I also figure that parts and mods down the track will be easy due to aftermarket options. As the 260 is currently an auto, I want to convert the it to an RB25 manual as well... and considering the brakes, wiring looms, potential power steering rack and everything else I think it will be best to buy a half cut R33 Skyline. My first thoughts were Adelaide Jap (I've bought stuff there before and it was good), but does anyone have any alternatives? Also, does anyone know if you could use the pedal box from a R33 half cut to complete a manual conversion? I'm thinking the McKinney Mount kit will be an obvious purchase and install the RB25 engine and manual box. Cheers, - JB

    Hatch sizes

Thanks Lurch, most appreciated. Kinda figured the +2 hatch just MAY not fit!

    Hatch sizes

Thanks Rev, I'm trying to work out if a '73 240Z hatch will fit my '74 260Z. Thoughts?

    Hatch sizes

Can someone confirm that the 240 rear hatch is a different size to a 260 hatch? I know the doors are longer on a 260Z and I've been told that the hatch is a different size too, but I thought I would confirm this with more experienced Z handlers. Any help most appreciated. - JB
  21. Yeah, rust makes for a fun time... although it appears to be alot of surface rust but not too much structural rust. The sunroof is a pain and I'll attempt to get a roofskin and replace in the future. The car cost me $3,750. The lady selling the car didn't really know what she had and set a 'buy it now' price of $3,750. I think she got a few phone calls after the sale asking to selling for a higher amount, but she was good enough to honour the agreed price. Pegasus sticker makes the car go faster (Vin Diesal told me so)
  22. Hi all, Quick update on the Z hunt and I'm glad to report that I've bought a 260Z (2 seater) from Melbourne. I drove it from Melbourne to Adelaide last weekend with absolutely NO problems! See pics below of the new pride and joy....recently dubbed "The Mistress"
  23. Sold! Email sent.

    What Gearbox?

Thanks hunterzed, I want to check out the box down at the wreckers here in Adelaide first, as it will save some $$'s in shipping.... although a close ratio box is very tempting....
