TIR33D - its the number plate on my VE ute - as surely it is 100% tax right off. Also the cheaper way of getting TYRED on my ute as I own a tyre shop. And as many of you may know, working with the public can be quite tiring......Something like $600 a year in NSW for full letters on you plate - this way only $260 (I think)

79' 280ZX for sale cheap QLD *****Auction ending!!*****
tir33d replied to Bigworm's topic in Cars For Sale
I guess we all here on this site know of his elect issues, I seriously considered it but this would just be an extra car for me (on top of Pathifinder, VE ute, VS ute, 280 with LS1 and 120y dirt car) I really don't need it but I do like the work on the roof. Still thinking of giving him a call. Phill (and yes my wife is killing me too!) -
Hey Ben, called in a few weeks ago and left my number but maybe it was lost in transit upstairs. I am looking for a front spoiler (prob g nose or similar - and designed to work rather than looks - I want to run Bathurst) Bre style rear spoiler and some flares for my 280zx. Do you have any of these in stock? Will be picking up my car again in a week or two hopefully (I am in a line to get my CAMS cage done). Will come and pick up then if available. If you want payment prior just let me know. Thanks Phill.

I guess you can call me a tryhard..... Bathurst Speed weekend.
tir33d replied to tir33d's topic in Racing Your Car
I have a set of K Sport coilovers all round, but I need a slightly larger front sway bar as all points are on maximum adjustment, I have also got the car sitting a little high due to 1. exhaust - as you would know, and 2. First time at wakefield with my 17' wheels I launched it thru the centre of the track and found a small jump, spectators reckon they saw a foot of air under the whole car, upon landing all tyres engaged the guards and took chunks out - was pretty pissed as I though I had destroyed my $1500 worth of new tyres. So I wound them up an inch and haven't touch them since. When I install my big brakes I will remove the 1 inch spacers and play with the height. The prob with these events is that you don't really have any decent data as for suspension settings so I just left them all rock hard - I should have dropped the rear down at least a few clicks -

Yep had my heart racing. Really need to track down a rear spoiler, and the front end could do with one also. Although I like these type of events I really want to try door handle racing (in a much more controlled manner obviously) Those bloody wheels aren't wide enough either Lurch - then again, my driving style 12' wide wouldn't help either I guess -
The Bathurst Light Car Club had the Speed weekend a few weeks ago, I took my 280zx with LS1 and showed up quite a few quality cars. Overall 8 out of 80 vehicles. Considering the car still isn't properly sorted a dam fine result. First up was the run down Conrod, we start at the bottom of the hill (at the 60km/h sign) so not a complete run down the straight. The video is of the last run when I was trying to catch up about 1/2 a second on a friend, so late braking was the order of the day. The next day we did the Mountain straight hill climb which finishes just before Skyline. Watch for the cones at the finish line, they always point out that the timing equipement is expensive and should be avoided at all costs.

Sorry, my bad!!! I meant in front of the rear tyres just behind the doors. I am hoping to get a muffler either side, not to bothered about a balance pipe. On the toyo thing, I have organised sponsorship before for our local 12 hr car a BOGOF deal, buy one get one free. Toyo are just being arseholes this time. My last price was $318+ tax, cost me just over $1400, this time they wanted $380+. St George will do them for $350 including and I have been assured that it will be fresh stock (arrives early Jan) Just gets my goat, bloody arogant Jap bastards. Shall I even mention the NSW general manager that feel on his sword when it was found out that he had helped himself to over $30k worth of R888 for him and his mates. Falken is always willing to help but they are lower quality, Kumho used to sell me their race tyres but no longer will. Yoko is a closed market as with Bridgestone.

Thanks for the responses guys, dropped in to see Ben today, but alas he was not home, expecting a call tomorrow. We decided today that we are going the E85 route, so we are gonna plumb new fuel lines all the way through as it requires more fuel and from all reports appears to be a little corrosive so metal lines wherever possible. Gonna cost me a shedload in AN fittings and such. As for the induction I'll let you know soon. The exhaust we are going to try to run a 2.5 either side in front of the wheels but my concern is the noise, don't want to be thrown off a track for being to noisy. On another note, was chasing a spare set of toyo R888's. Now being a toyo dealer who spends over 10k a month I would expect a bit of a deal - HA - not. St George tyres actually beat the direct price by over $60 per tyre. I know they are dodgy importers, but a saving is a saving. F__k toyo.

OK, spent half the day reading different posts regarding this and am still a little confused. As I mentioned in another thread, I plan to do the regularity race at Easter at bathurst. I just did the speed weekend where we ran 1/2 - 2/3 of conrod and I experienced a bit of lightening near the kink. the car felt as if I was getting to much air under it, it still steered ok into the kink (still trying to accellerate at 6600 in 4th - its an LS1 - probably about 210-220). The car is currently on the trailer, about to go for bigger exhaust, fix my fuel system up a little, and a bigger/better intake (eyeing of a 8 throttle set up or at worst a single plane victor jnr) funds permitting (if I sell my tyre shop) I may rebuild with the goal of 500hp atw. Now i have never wound this thing up properly all the way down conrod, but would hate to get there at easter and find that for safety reasons I can't stay into the throttle all the way. I currently have removed the headlights and have a pod sticking thru the drivers side. From my reading today obviously some covers are in order for the buckets. I guess I am after some advice from the racer boys here who actually drive at excess of 200 as per what they find works well. Looks are not that important, I notice 620z has a supercar style wing, but also read that the BRE works well. Is the G-nose the best bet? I would also like to be able to run some sort of cooling to the front brakes. So options on a front and rear spoiler, and who can supply a spoiler that won't come apart at speed. Thanks in advance. Phil

I'm waiting for my mate to send me some of the footage he took of my efforts. Funniest part for me was when I completed a full donut 360 with a hell of alot of smoke in the chase on Saturday and still managed to win my race against a MX5. Then of course there was my first run on Sunday where I went across the finish line at a 45' angle at about 130km/h. Apparently I was a crowd favourite. On a more serious note, I think I have now started a very slippery slope. Gonna send my z of for a proper exhaust with 1 3/4 primaries, 4 into one with probably twin 2.5 out before passenger wheel - am willing to cut open the floor and box over it to keep it covered. Then we are gonna fix some issues I have with my fuel system and put a victor jnr single plane manifold. Might try to get a gearbox, diff and engine oil cooler. Then, wife and funds permitting we may do a new motor at 408 cube 12 to 1. gonna aim for 500hp at the treads. Also need to figure out some downforce on the front end as by god this thing was getting light at and above 200.

I was up at Bathurst this weekend with the Bathurst Light Car Club and they announced that the same mob that runs the 12 hr has gained the rights to the easter weekend. FOSC will be at Eastern creek. Apparently they will limit to 45 cars per event and there will be a practice, qualifying and then 3 races/events. Cost at $770. I have already expressed my interest and will be running my LS1 280zx. Even booked a room at Citigate (the hotel at the end of Conrod) cost $250 per night for a really nice room capable of sleeping 5. This hotel is almost already fully booked. Apparently you only need a level 2s cams licence (paperwork and cost only) fire extinguisher and car that would pass general scrutineering (if you saw my car you would understand its not about being registration worthy - just safe) Would be a great chance to go full noise around a iconic track. We just had the speed weekend where we run down Conrod on Saturday and did the Mountain straight hillclimb today. I can't wait..................

After reading through a couple of posts (that thread about corner pace - whoa lets be nice) I think I still need to ask what others are using. As some will remember I transplanted a LS1 into my 280zx track bi-atch, I have K-sport coilovers fitted (thinking 6-7kg spring) but thought when I was at Wakefield last time I was still getting a bit of roll in the front even with maximum on shocks. Now I think that I would be better off trying to reduce my shock setting and increasing the rollbar size. I currently have the standard bar at 23mm, upon speaking with Wholesale Suspension they said to remove my current bar, send it and they will make a new one. So question is - What size??? Think I have seen 26-28mm. Thoughts anyone........... Thanks Phill

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AVM-30-4100/ Seen a few of these, they look great and perform well. A little expensive compared to above but a qualilty unit.

280zx stripped to 1200kg with 1/2 cage LS1 with cam and tune and 6 speed - 350hp atw 225/50R15 kumho slick hilux brakes coilovers Wakefield Park - 1.10 (brakes were a issue and was using shocks to compensate for smaller swaybar 23.) Have some 330mm disks with HSV four spot calipers front 315mm 4 spot rear that will fit under some 17" Rota wheels, new R888 toyos at 255/40R17 Need to adjust master cylinder on clutch Larger front sway bar. I think there is another 3-4 secs in the above. My problem now is that I need my brain to catch up, what was gentle and fun at 1.13 now requires alot more conccentration.

Bump - added new photos in the first post

I didn't clean the tyres sorry.. Ok so good tyres (kumho slicks) on 7' performance wheels (as you can just see in the photo of the semi) Falkens (semi's) on 6' wheels
-
Sorry called out to do a truck last night, the performance wheels are 15x7 at +12. The kumhos are new, only did 3 15min sessions at Wakefield when I was sorting out my Z after the coinversion. The other wheels are only 15x6. Both sets are painted solid black (with aerosols). These wheels, and my car are for track purposes so the finish to me was not that important. Really hard to get a good photo, will try again today.
-
tomorrow for pics, only really decided to do the brakes tonight so no planning here (as with most projects I do) just I shit myself today when I was quoted around $400 each and up for quality semis ie yoko a048 bridgestones RE55 toyo R888 in 255/40R17. Something has to give soon and I think it might be the wallet..............

Anyone interested in a near new set of kumhos on performance superlight wheels. Tyres cost me over $1100 you can have the wheels as a bonus. Wheels are roughly painted black and a little narrow. These are a full slick tyre and literally dropped my lap times by over 3 seconds when used. Unfortunaley Lurch didn't tell me they wouldn't fit on the 17' wheels he sold me. (no real story is im going for a massive brake upgrade). $1000 Located near Bathurst Also have a set of Rt615 Falken 205/50r15 (semi slick tyre) only done 20 laps also, fitted to non discript 5 spoke wheels - $850 Any interest here or will I throw them at Flea bay Phil
-
Hey Lurch, Couple of questions, I am guessing you had a 225 tyre on those rims in the photo? Do you still have them? Do you think they are a good fitment? From the photo it looks as though they are running right on the guard line. Is that the same on the front? I desperately need more rubber down and am willing to mount these with flares if necessary. Where in Vic are you? Tell me what you want for your project and maybe I can get some rubber for you as part payment. I am planning on using these for my 280 with coilovers but I would still like to be able to get some camber in there, will I need a spacer to get the camber? Thanks Phil

Had our hillclimb today, heres a bit of real noise. I took a mate with me and we double entered the car. That will explain why one run is controlled then the next is out there. Had a great day, I think I love my Z.
-
That was me on the dyno. Went to Wakefield today and managed a string of 1.11's. Will post a incar vid later. Definitely need brakes, a power steer cooler, and need to cover up some holes in the firewall as my eyes are still sore from the fumes. Was funny, I was thrown in with the Tin Top racers. All pro cars really and I held my own against all of them. My cheap little dato.....

Yep have IAT sensor just hanging around near the oil filter. Tuned mafless so no maf. I still think its gunna be a handful....
-
Well the motor is still intact. And I have seen and heard it run at 7000rpm. Now the tuner and my mechanic mate from Syd way are a little dissapointed at the number but I really don't care as I didn't build it as a dyno queen. They seem to think my little short mainfolds are not helping but I kind of new that. As long as it is strong and revs well I will be happy. Now my tuner has set a resonable tune, but I am not running oxygen sensors in the exhaust and he didn't have his wideband so was only using a probe up the butt. I have in the car now a scanner and wide ban to log some figures at Wakefield and he will then adjust to suit. Now remember that the tuner and mechanic are used to seeing big numbers so 350hp or 260kw was a little sad for them. But franky its at least twice as powerfull as before and probably three times. If like my commodore I had 1 7/8 extractors with more eual lungth runners and twin 2.5 inch all the way there is prob another 15-20kw. Anyway still hoping to get away on Wednesday to Wakefield for a practice before the hillclimb.
