  1. ditto Mark ... Your car looks like a monster. Engine looks ridiculous too. Looking fwd to seeing it.... in my rear view mirror
  2. Correct, Goertz did not design the S30Z. He was mentioned, and the story goes into the detail of who did. I won't spoil the story. Its a decent read!
  3. Thanks Gareth The magazine might not be in stores for a few weeks as the subscription issues come out early. Might be able to buy in some agencies that do the early imports, but it is a must have for a zed nut. Even my Wife thought the article was pretty cool and well written. Thanks for the vote of confidence on my car .. would love to have it featured in a mag eventually. Its been such an epic journey, that I think it'd be good to have some record of it. Not to mention, it might be of interest to others considering undertaking the task. I have even thought of asking Octane to have a look at it. They occasionally do write ups of restos, albeit the most recent ones they did were a lightweight 300SL and 250GTO!
  4. Just got my subscription of this magnificent publication 'Octane issue 99 - E Type's 50th Celebration' and note with much interest a five page special on the 240Z (albeit starting on page 158!). Following the actual article, which disusses the drive of a yellow RHD 240Z (at night through London) was a two page piece on Albert Goertz and the history behind the car, and interestingly reason for its shape amongst other points. The good news is the journo absolutely loved the zed, suggesting he drove the car all night only to finish up at dawn. He comments re handling, power, style and practicality were all very complimentary. I must say, after reading the article I thought how great it would be to own an original 71 240Z.... then I realised I do !! Great read everyone, worth buying the magazine, especially knowing its going Global and is in the very issue that speaks of the e-type's 50th anniversary. Lots of good press there to help the values.
  5. I would use Motorsport Auto in the USA. Their parts are fantastic, and I am a super fussy buyer. The postage for the whole lot was about US$35 from memory and based on how cheap they were compared to any local supplier, and their quality (they are 'precision' brand) you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for Factory rubbers, these are also available ex US, and again their prices are cheaper than aftermarket kits in Australia. I bought a complete factory Nissan kit of rubbers for a 240Z (ex the door seals which are precision, and a better design than the two piece factory parts) and the whole thing landed was right on A$600. Not bad for new factory parts that you know will fit, AND work!
  6. bump. PM me if interested. Willing to negotiate on prices.
  7. Great Pete ... super Shots, likewise would have been nice. Any chance you got a look at the brand of and size of the wheels on the top car and the silver #3 car in those photos? To me they look fantastic. Cheers Adam
  8. OMG ... I just broke a nail, anyone got a file handy? Pete's right ... too much gibber, not enough car stuff .. a bit like Top Gear these days.
  9. This is really beautiful Dozens of men constantly talking publicly about their feelings toward one another .. someone pass the tissues!
  10. I'm with you Guys .. this is an excellent forum and i'm yet to meet anyone that has not been anything but extremely helpful and generally polite. Having said that, I have a 4.5yr old and 3yr old (and one due in 3 weeks) and combined they tend to cause less headaches than this Karma issue. Play nice. Adam.
  11. Ok lets settle this. No Plastic here folks and these are amongst the prettiest (and most valuable) Zed's I've seen (yes there is a factory fitted rear fender on the 432)
  12. Lots of passion here .. .good stuff. I'm with you Gav, the best looking zed is one nude of aftermarket appendages. Have a look at James Flett's car on my build thread parked on the grass .. thats about the best looking car / stance I've seen. Should have mentioned last night, the true reason holding back the zeds is supply ... they made 150,000 of the 240's, which if you compare to the euro cars is many many many multiples. Having said that, their early plentiful supply meant; 1) they were too cheap to restore, and 2) they were a cheap car to buy and mod, and race ... both of which meant cars were destroyed. Compare that to porsche ... there is more than 80% of every porsche ever build still in existance. Not sure you could say the same for the 240Z! Cheers all. Adam
  13. Hi John & Mark I have been speaking to Nat about values, and he made a very good point that I thought i'd share. If you look at classic Euro cars, say Porsche and Jag specifically, both these marques have well and truly peaked (in this market), if you consider say a 2.7 Carrera, or E-type convertible. Both these cars have hit their peaks, and in many instances the values are actually (or have already) declined. As Nat points out (and he should know as a judge for the NSW Ferrari Club amongst other roles in the classic car industry) that the early Japanese sports cars (ex say the 2000GT and Honda S600's and the like) will follow, albeit maybe not to the extent of the ultra ultra rare 2000Gt. Look at the demand and supply. Every time I log on here I see some other punter wanting a 240Z or 260 2 seater, and then he buys it and straps a turbo to it and sticks on a set of 20" zepters, momo intertior and matt black paint. Not to generalise, but every time an early car is heavily modified and parts lost, that car that was a rare and original example is essentially gone. Keep that up for a few years and then all the original cars will be gone. What happens then when Japanese investors, and US want anther one. We need to pay more, ie supply vs demand. Anyway, a long winded answer I know, but the answer must be that well cared for largely original cars will continue to escalate, especially from their relatively current modest base. I see guys trying to sell 240Z's for very big money and I wish them well. For if one or more sell for those big sums, then that becomes market value, and so too our lovingly cared for cars escalate to those levels. Whist this has not yet occurred, it will in my opinion. Japanese cars must bridge the gap to their earlier Euro counterparts. So Mossy ... don't just 'give' that shell away mate, its a super rare early bird and is worth good money to he who wants a great and very desirable car. Cheers Adam
  14. The speedo is an original from Japan.
  15. Thanks Dat2kman I FOUND Mark; mark@full-throttle.com.au The problem is though, I emailed Mark and the address has; "permanently failed" and bounced back, according to my system. It seems he's not around any more. if anyone else can help, drop me a line. Thanks Adam.
  16. Hi All. I had a look at recommended businesses for Panasport wheels, and can't seem to contact the vendor, as the site is not working. I also emailed a contact I had for panasport locally, and similarly the email bounced back. Does anybody have any contact / idea if or where I can buy panasports here in Australia? Thanks Adam.
  17. Given changes to my project, I'm now selling the following. Items are located in Sydney, but can be freighted; 1) Four charcoal Watanabe wheels with Dunlop semi slick Formula R Tyres; Wheels are 15" by 6.5". If you look at the blue car (my actual wheels and tyres), they sit and fit very well, with no modification to the body or spacers required. Tyres are Dunlop Formula R (semi slick, but road registrable). Fronts 205/50/15, Rears 225/50/15. Tyre life is ~75% remaining. These wheels retail at ~$560 each, and tyres $300 each. Selling wheels with tyres $1200. 2) Very rare 240Z 240KPH speedo that is virtually AS NEW condition. This is a fantastic piece, and was very hard to find. Selling at cost to me $525. Rare! 3) Rear horizontal Demister Glass Screen - $200. Please PM me if interested.
  18. Hi All As I eluded to on another thread, I have a very good condition rear hatch glass that I want to sell. This is the post 71 type with horizontal demister bars. Glass is in very good condition, and I believe the demister does work. Located in Sydney. PM me if interested. Adam.
  19. Thanks everyone .. OK, so it seems the early cars around 70 had them, but this was likely an option. The post 70/71 cars, also seeming to be options appear to have used the later horizontal demisters. I guess my car (May 71 build) had a demister, as there is a demister switch in it, and i'm guessing its original. My current rear screen is a good quality one and has the horizontal demister in it. I will be selling this too, if anyone has interest as i have bought a vertical demister rear screen, again for that early look. I have one member at this stage interested, so if it falls through i'll advertise it properly. Appreciate everybody's input, you guys are great. Adam.
  20. Here's one for the purists.. I'm looking to buy a correct 'vertical' line demister rear hatch glass, but can somebody confirm what years the Australian delivered cars used this pattern as opposed to the later cars with horizontal demister. Apologies if this has been done to death before, but I did a quick search and did not see it. The only detail I have heard is that 'early' cars had vertical, with 'later' cars having the horizontal. Does anybody know the actual dates? Rgds Adam
  21. Agreed Roberto .. I will be extremely interested to see how they go, as these are the exact same pipes as i'm picking up next week. The welds look excellent, and speaking to Peter, the quality is extremely good too. These are the first run of 1 5/8" primaries, so it'll be interesting to see how they go on hot L motors, versus the last run at 1 7/8". Be sure to keep us posted, and stick a vid of the car running with them on. What muffler / rear pipe are you planning on using? I will use a stainless 2.5" mandrel bent pipe with mid mounted resonator and rear single sports muffler. Adam.
  22. Hi All I bought a new clutch slave cylinder a while back, but there is no Rod with it. Does anybody have a spare rod? There are apparently two types, and the one I need is the one that fits into the clutch fork with a dimple, NOT a hole (if that makes any sense). Many thanks all, Rgds Adam
  23. Hi Andrew, I think staying roughly the same colour is a good idea, especially with red too, a colour thats very hard to beat on a 240Z. For what its worth, I think the best red on the market now is that used by Honda on their brand new range. I've seen it on an accord Euro and a Jazz, and its definitely a darker hue than your typical bright red car, and looks very smart in the flesh. I'd say its got a bit of a blood colour to it. Probably reasonably accessible too, being a Honda colour. Have a look for yourself, its very nice. Good luck with the final decision anyway. Adam.
  24. G'day Andrew Welcome to the forum, your car looks fantastic. Would love to see it in person, so if you're about any time at the weekend/s drop me a PM and I can come and have a look. Doing that trip looks a hoot, how did she go, and what sort of fuel consumption did she give you? Did you use Yellow Koni's that are externally adjustable, or the red's? I am planning on getting a set, so would be interested in your experience. This is a great forum, that you'll get a lot from. Enjoy it, and well done on saving another great 240Z. Cheers Adam The Brown Hornet
  25. Teaser video of the hornet. Took this today! http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/267454/mclaren_mp412c_gt3_racing_car_new_pictures_and_video.html?CMP=NLC-Newsletters&uid=63e6e51ba0e99db5838d6392ab17aeb7
