  1. Thanks guys. Rev what is involved with etching and what kind of primer should I use. I am presuming a zinc primer should give good rust protection. Given that the paint has kind of washed/ cracked off I am presuming it was acrylic and that I should probably go acrylic again. Is this a good assumption? Thanks
  2. Thanks guys. Any opinions on unimig and migomag. Lurch I know I shouldn't be but I am still tempted to buy 2nd hand as I could get a 200 Amp Cig for around 1K. What are the things that could happen to the welder if it has been abused? I don't have that much cash and looking to spend around 800-1K hence the consideration of a second hand CIG.
  3. Hi, Does the motor include the box? Thanks.
  4. Hi, I have read the great debate in the previous topic about the relative merits of various types of welders. I have also read up a little bit and watched a few videos on mig and tig welding. I am looking at getting either a gas mig or tig welder. I believe that gas migs are superior to gasless so I have discounted the gasless option (sorry to anyone who uses gasless ). I have a few questions: 1. Would people who have knowledge and experience of both recommend either a gas mig or a tig welder for doing panels on a Z? 2. Which of these welds at a cooler temperature and thus causes less distortion? 3. How easy is trying to tig weld a vertical surface such as a firewall without the weld running down? 4. What brands of welders, amp range, and adjustability e.g. amps, voltage etc would I require to get a perfect weld? 5. Would people recommend the brands "Unimig" or "Migomag" although I am leaning towards a Cig as they have a good reputation. Any other thoughts or comments regarding the above. I am looking at getting the welder second hand in order to get a better quality model. Any thoughts on Chinese made machines? Thanks for all the info.
  5. Hi, I have a rear hatch that I want to respray however I only want to spray over the existing paint at this stage. The paint has crazed and flaked off in some areas leaving only the primer exposed. My conclusion for spraying over the paintwork would be to give it a light sand and fill any paint chipped areas with stopping putty before respraying the panel. Would people recommend acylic, enamel or 2-pak for the respray and is this the right way to go about it? Thanks.
  6. Hi ACF, There is a place called Z16 in Sydney that might have a door. Otherwise ebay/rare spares/all Z parts. Cheers.
  7. I thought 432s had a cross flow head? Or if not, what is the cross-flow engine that was originally put into Zed's?
  8. Hey Mike, The same thing happened to my Mk1, it had about 10 litres of water in it. :'( For me it was the rear hatch seal (which I have not got around to fixing yet). 260s originally had rubber seals around the hatch hinge pockets although these are hard to find and the foam glued around the top of where the hatch sits. Spray it with a hose and see where it leaks. P.S. Historics on this Sunday at Oran Park.
  9. 911's win almost every Sc race. Sorry to rain on the Zed parade . One exception is the DeTomaso Pantera's that win occasionally.
  10. As an example of the high regard that auto zeds are held in I could have bought an auto box off ebay for 99c. Rev I know you don't respond to peer pressure but I appeal to your sanity! Or at least think of someone who may buy it down the track!
  11. Hey Glen, A bit off topic but I saw your mention of air leaks on nitro RC cars. I am having problems getting mine to run properly at the mom. Could you please PM me the areas you need to look at when the car is not running properly. Thanks.
  12. Hi, Do you still have the box? Thanks
  13. Congrats on the win. Good to see the zed beat those boring lancers and wrx's. Incredible to beat the Skylines as well
  14. If you decide not to buy it let me know as I would think about it price depending!
  15. Went out there today as well Peter and will be going Sat and Sun too! You dont own a white 240 by any chance as saw a nice one in parking lot. Love those F5000 McLaren Chevy's if I had the money will think of buying one. Ferrari and BRM sounded unreal although Ferrari sounded as if it was hitting a limiter down the straight Seriously. Good to see the 3.5 Brabham Buick destroy the rest although it has an extra liter being Formula Libre. MRP that is the same block as a Rover 3.5 and is capable of 700HP NA bored out to 4.2 which is the old engine the car was running. In this config it could spin the wheels through every gear down the straight and owner said it was TOO powerful so he sold the motor That is what I call an awesome car. Zeds (3 thereof) ran well keeping pace with a BMW 3.0 CSL but as usual behind the Porsche's. I am secretly a Porsche fan so that is OK .
  16. This weekend 28,29,30 Eastern Creek. 400+ historic sports and racing cars (probably 5+ racing zeds there). Ferrari 246 Chris Amon and BRM P126 Rodriguez Tasman cars plus a host of Lola's, Brabhams, Lotus, Ferrari, Porsche all racing none of this static nonsense . Check out www.tasmanrevival.com.au or HSRCA.org.au. This only happens once every two years so if you are in Sydney and like your zeds and historics suggest you be there!
  17. Hey Pauly how did you go installing your power windows? Know someone who is thinking of buying same kit off eBay.
  18. My spare parts car was about equal to that. I sold it and chassis was scrapped. SIMS must have searched high and low for any trace of steel in it. Sad to see any zed get scrapped though, would have liked my parts car to have been restored :'(
  19. Anyone here thinking of running their zed in historics? When (or if) I finish mine I will try it in regularity first but I don't have the cash for Sc. If I were spending that much I would probably buy an open wheeler. As an aside some guy offered to sell me his 260 2 seater in Sc for 20K which is probably pretty good considering how much was done to it. It was as light as possible all underbody sealant removed paint about 1 micron thick and uneven because all Niki removed half the rubber seals not there! PS that De Tomaso is nice no problems finding HP there
  20. Fairlady zed on ebay at moment-not sure about seats have a look at it. I want the blown 240 on ebay!
  21. Someone told me that some guy in Adelaide has a 2.75. Can't remember who told me. Anyone want to remind me?
  22. Maybe we should consider a bulk import of 3.36:1 Diffs I want one as well but also will not pay 2K
  23. Have seen that Zed running in Sydney. It usually finishes just behind all the Porsches so he is doing very well considering the Porsche guys have probably spent 5 times the money on their cars. It is immaculately turned out. I think the power figures are realistic those guys do a fair bit of work on their cars within the strict confines of the historic rules. Even call it 200rwhp and he is doing very well. If you challenge it, enter your Zed in the historics and see how you go Another Zed on the track is always good!
  24. Ahhh yes the notorious 260Z clock... Don't feel bad I still have yet to see one that works properly Apparently the clock was secretly designed as a revenge plot for losing the war
  25. Hell yeah go the mechanical fuel pump! Electric fuel pumps are the work of the devil!
