280zx front quarter panels **PICS UPDATED**
Dingo Dave replied to OZ001's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
Im defenatly interested for cash. Im from canberra so i would probably run down to pick them up if they are still going. If you wanna call me my number is 0418682838 or send me a message and ill call you. look forward to hearing from you -
I have had worse. I got a car one time that they used 5cm square pieces of metal and welded them together to form the bottom half of a panel from the rear wheel back. thats alot of pieces. The car looked good after we fixed it.

I havent even started with my car and im getting worried. the pasanger guard got damaged when the wheel came off when i took it for a test drive. found rust sections poorly welded up and bogged and rust under the bog due to the bad welding. the apron had 7mm thick putty on it because they bent it out of shape and didnt bother fixing it. they bogged around the filler cap. big mistake because fuel gets in and makes it peal from the panel and so rust. seems who ever filler the car up thought you had to do a smack down on the car with the nozle before getting it in the filler. (seen that on lots of older cars in the shop. iether people being carless at the bouser or dont know how to fill the car up. and filler big no no around there). apart from that there isnt much more filler that i have found. they tryed to die the seats and dash and where the old radio was they broke the dash trying to make the new one fit so they cut a piece of 5mm checker plate and screwed it in. back yard mechanics i dont know lol.

Good Morning all. Hmm unusual for me I'll start like normal. g'day all. Welcome to the z owners mate . its kinda like heaven only with speed limits . Your car looks good. Yella works well. Have to see it in person though. The dash cracking isn't unusual. So what part of Canberra you from. We should do a meet up again. I got my licence back. So now I may be able to come lol. Off my but hey. I will be spending all of today in the spray booth. OK just on the pocket rocket instead lol. Then the 280 can go into the workshop. More work then we thought on the 280 though from the work i did last week and what we found. well catch ya latter's I'm gonna go pick up a spray gun.

I have 2 boys well 1 boy and one due on the 29th. I grew up with the street kids. My mum was a nurse and my dad was never around. i dont want my boys growing up thinking the same way I did. doing the same things i got up to. and hatting their parents. I want them to be in the workshop with their dad building, resurrecting and well me knowing what they are doing and where they are. I figure i never new anything about cars till year 8 when a mates dad gave me my first one and i got into them. My dad doesnt know much about them. I wanna share this with my boys if they dont get into in then thats cool. If they do im gonna buy them a wreck for their 15th birthday and help them build it. -
Hmm angle grinders work with the thin blades but the heat can cause the metal to warp. so when using them be carefull could end up with the pannel beater doing a lot more work. Yes i use one. a plasma cutter when you can get your hands on one is great but they expensive. they can warp as well but the bigest problem i found was slag left behind. great tools though. we use to use them everywhere at the panel shop and at the tracking station. a metal sabor saw is great if you have the space to use them. because they are like a jig saw if there is something on the other side and you run into it then it wont cut just break the blade or move your arms up and down for a while. so they are probably your best options but not the only ones.

I purchase cars in the same state, I then restore them and sell them. If it wasn't for people like us then there would be a lot of cars out there being scrapped just because they have a bit of surface rust. Get over it. We can do what ever we want thats the joy of freedom. Don't Mock him and don't hinder him because its not something you would do. Oh and rent wrecks to riches or rides. There are a lot of us out there and we are the ones willing to put the love into the cars. Mate you are doing a bang up job and the majority of us respect that and will help you to make them jealous in the end.

it's actually not a completely daft idea although for a different reason to what he's thinking. basically the main wake of the car is much too big to be significantly affected by the small volume of air - you might measure the difference on a high end race car but you'd never notice it in normal road use. the more significant effect is that generally the wheel wells (front and rear) are over pressurised at the rear by the rotating wheel, this causes air to spill out of the wheel well and generally make a mess. venting the wheel well in a controlled design prevents this and is an important feature on most closed wheel type race cars http://www.fourtitude.com/news/uploads/Motorsport_News/new_dtm.jpg (excepting categories where it's banned in some way) and high end road cars. as with most of these things though you need some fairly decent speed to notice the difference - aerodynamics is very much secondary to mechanical considerations until you get above 100km/h. As for LED's i have been shaving the top of them since i first got them. just cut the top lense part off and then the light isnt in one direction. worked wonders for all the dashes i have made.

Yeah we spent ages in a wind tunnel doeing the spirit of canberra. spent more time in a wind tunnel doing a hydrofoil. then in a liquid bath to make sure the foils were going to do what we needed them to do. It looked mad on the water too.

OK so i had the cops called the otherday by a a neighbor complaning i was being to loud for 6:30 on a thursday night. I dont know who. On one side my mate was beating out the pannels on someones car (pannel beater). on the other side the kid was working on his motorbike. next to him was a guy building his rally car. across the road there were several teans experimenting with there cars. Personally i think that i was the quiet one. but the cops turned up told me to quieten it up for the night because there was a complant about my place. so the guys from around the street all came out we had an agument with the cops so the cops told me to pack it up for the night. so i turned the mill and everything in the garage off and as i walked out i could here all the others working on there cars. so pissed off i went inside to my drawing board and sat down to take out my anger with some new tools a friend that manages an art store put me on to. this is the product.

Hot from the design board. Ok this is the first time i have used the pens that alot of the designers use. they are realy nice to use but still getting use to them. so the pic isnt as good as it could be.

F*)(*ing supersh#t why does everyone go there. they dont want to help they dont know their stuff and you look at their cars. pfff say no more they all drive shitboxes or are too young to get their licence and as such have no experiance. people that own and drive and work on their cars work at other places. and they dont have everything auto they have lots lots more (shit that breaks or doesnt do what they are suppose too). You know its bad when you go there and get disk pads and the guy behind the counter asks you if they are hard to do or should he get a pro to do it. because he is not sure but when he brakes there is this really narly sound but it goes away when you take your foot off the brake. I felt like telling him to ignore it but figured i didnt want the blood of someone else on my hands because his brakes failed. and watch the way they chain they product up outside every morning and pack it up at night. they dont give a shit about the product someone will buy it and then its not their problem anymore. and they shop elsewhere too. supercheap should be boycott to stop all that money going over seas. shop at your autobarn who are their to help you or your autopro. both of whom are individually owned by someone from the community and thus keeps the money where it is. plus it keeps a family near you fed and stops people from overseas taking over everything. plus they have the stuff or can get it and all the perfonance stuff I AM AN AUSSIE I SHOP AUSSIE.

Ok here we go people. I asked the question. Does VG work. I have seen them on evos and wondered. response: yeah, vortex generators work but you've got to be careful - they can easily make thing worse rather than better. me:So I figure they disrupt the air flow to make it run with the body of the car. response: More or less correct on VG function, on something like the evo they help the air stay attached as it goes down the back screen. Similar principle to the dimples on a golf ball actually. me: I saw an evo the other day with a lot of cosmetic stuff all over it and just thought most of that would be slowing it down and making it harder to cut through the air. response: Your certainly right about many of the cosmetic kits you see though - I have actually seen a few with the wing section the wrong way up so that it'd actually be producing lift... So there you go. I didnt realize they did the same thing as a golf ball. So the motto of the story is to check first and then add. I also asked what they use more a computer or a wind tunnel. he said it takes a lot of computer power to generate the same thing as a wind tunnel they are good but the wind tunnel is always the last way of testing. to build a model and then subject it to the wind tunnel with special scales that measure the roll and force is the best way. hope this is usfull.
