  1. Time for a long over due update. Not much has happened to the zed unfortunately. In my defence of zed neglect, apart from vast amount jobs that have needed engineering, the missus and I bought our first house around October last year when the interest rates were high (which are now low ). It's a little gable in an older part of South Toowoomba thats heritage listed. The building approval came through for my shed aka "man room" (its only marginally smaller in floor area than the house ) so once that is built I can bring the zed in its entirety from the old place to the bigger shed. In the meantime the little B2000 ute I picked up for cash wasn't satisfying my need for horsepower so I bought this as a fill in until the zed is complete.... A few weeks ago I popped in to see Paul on the way to QR and picked up some L24 rods. I'm really sure which way I want to go with the engine. The way I see it is I have two options: go the RB20DET (refer older posts) or an L31. Considering we have people that have done these conversions is there any chance of sharing your experience? This car WILL see track use, I still have to keep up with or beat my work colleague's R33 GTR or will be shamed forever!
  2. Light Vehicle modification guidelines for engine swaps. I made a thread in engine swaps but it has all the light vehicle mod codes for all mods. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,3096.0.html A longer 2+2 wheelbase has got to account for something?
  3. Best news I've had all day. 1193kg*3 = 3579cc can anyone say RB30DET time?!
  4. How long do you think you'll take to reskin a dash? My 2+2 dash is pretty cracked. I'm willing to send you my dash as long as it comes back to me better than what is was (which wouldn't be hard haha!).
  5. That looks well thought out and of quality workmanship! Congrats!
  6. I need to know this too, for the sake of my RB25 head and RB30 block sitting in my shed. I hope the 2+2 is a tad bit heavier than the 2 seater because those parts need a home and they don't want to be separated......
  7. +1 Ben had my ZG flares and front bar to me in no time and from Japan too!
  8. I would ideally like to get 10" under that back but that is really pushing it. Fronts would be no more than 8.5". I found some photos of a guy who used VW bug wheel arches but they don't quite do it for me. I'm chasing a sharp flare thats like, original panel lines *BAM!* angle change to flares, someting deffinate but not ridiculous. I'll have to look into the sierra flares so thanks for that suggestion PZG203. *waiting patietly for a NZeder reply *
  9. Hi Guys, I've been trying to find any information on a steel weld on flare kit for a while now without any luck. I've seen them before, the ones I'm after look like NZeders flares. It'll be going on a 260z but I don't think there is much difference/modification needed for 240z ones to work. I have a set of ZG flares that Benzed got me, I'd just prefer a seamless look like the flares were meant to be if I could get a weld on kit. Can anyone help?
  10. Man they are hell nice!!
  11. I don't know if this is useful to anyone, but I've been looking for this link for over a year now. Its for the code of practice for light vehicle modifications and points out guidelines and requirements for any modification undertaken. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/vsb_ncop.aspx
  12. That would be cool even though I don't know many people.
  13. That it did! This Zed is in Toowoomba and I assume now owned by a local steering and suspension shop. I see it often when I go visit my mate's workshop which is two shes up from the shop who owns it. All they do is start it up, move it into the carpark and in the afternoon put it back in the shop. Its the worst form of Zed abuse, makes me sad. http://autospeed.com/cms/A_2815/article.html
  14. Has anyone ever pondered a VH45DE swap from the infiniti Q45? Apparently they're a really top motor (600hp stock bottom end), downside, no manual boxes which means fabrication work. I have seen that "450Z" on youtube, sounds pretty amazing. What do you guys think?
  15. Thats well wicked! Its giving me ideas for my door cards
  16. A bit of an update. I've been a tad bit busy lately. My lady friend and I bought a house so we've been running around like headless chooks for the past few weeks. I got handy with the MIG and have repaired most of the panels. I managed to strip the driver's side front quarter back to bare metal and etch prime it. Thank god for those grinder pads that are like pot scourers. The rest of the front panels are almost ready for priming. A good mate was cleaning out his shed and found a few bits I might be interested in. So far the list includes 2 RB20DET engines, 2 extra RB20DET heads, an RB20DET gearbox and a few boxes of random RB20 stuff. He's still finding stuff that he doesn't need. And all he wanted was $900!! I took the CRS mounting kits that I bought earlier (which I could have made for half the price!! No offence CRS) and everything lined up so we'll see what develops
  17. 3/4 of those wheels are off the track!!
  18. Any word on the entry forms? Fingers crossed that the mistress will be done for this . I have a mate who has a 1600 he'd like to enter too. I'm hoping there is a show and shine kind of thing happening also?
  19. Shiiiiiite! Looking good! Any anticipated figures from your engine build or just generally "fast"?
  20. Here in SE QLD they have been trailing a system in which an officer of the traffic branch as the power override all engineers certificates and QLD transport. You can have your car engineered and mod plated to the Nth degree and they still fine you. Another downside of the rule is that all "illegal" (I use that term loosely) modification based fines have a court summons and notch added to your criminal record. Thats right, a mate had a court appearence and a criminal record started because his exhaust was too loud!!! It is most suckful as every officer and his dog takes you to town if your car is an import or rare or candy coloured. I ONLY drive my R33 GTST in mainstream work traffic and never at night. I bought a Getz for the principle of a car that couldn't be booked for illegal mods. All of my mates have bought second cars for this very reason. If the grand plan was to get all the perfect, engineered vehicles that people have spent a year's wage on off the road altogether and collecting dust, they certainly did a good job! You won't find many of them in Toowoomba anymore. Just my little rant.....
  21. Thanks Zedman! That's exactly the kind of input I was after. Sounds like the guys who are using 300lb/inch are doing what I intend to do so that might be a good starting point. I'll be using ZG flares and from reading people can fit 9.5" under so I figure why not try to squeeze a little more in there by using adjustable coil-overs.
  22. Thanks for the advice Lurch. Theory can only take you so far which is the reason why I ask you guys what you thought. The maths that you work out on paper may not be best practice off paper. I have no doubt the maths will get me close to the end result, I was just seeking people's experience. I'm looking at roughly 2.75-3kn per wheel and just off my head, would the wheel motion ratio be near 1.3:1? I might go do some measuring tonight. It's a bit hard to determine my current spring rates by empirical means as the car is virtually a shell. Has anyone seen the new fully adjustable caster/camber tops K-mac make for the zeds.....
  23. Fark! That hairdryer is huge! Your bumpers look reasonably unscathed and straight too! Good buy! What is the yellow thing with flared guards in primer in the background?
  24. It's suspension on a 260 and thank you for comfirmation. So, does anyone think 10" rims will fit? I was pondering spring rates too. I was thinking 7kg/mm fronts and 9kg/mm rear. Would that be too aggressive for half street, half track use?
  25. I had a thought on the weekend while I was focused on my struts. I know you can get adjustable coil-over sleeve kits so I measured my struts and the outside diameter was a bee's dick larger than 55mm. Does anyone know if this sounds right? My favoured end result would be 10" wide rims on the rear, with ZG flares and careful selection of rim offset. Hopefully by using a sleeve kit I can reduce the radius of the spring hence giving more room for a rim.
